On the other hand, every time you change from looking out the windscreen to checking the "mirror", the eyes have to refocus from long distance to about 3 feet & then back again. Doesn't help you to have a quick glance. :¬(

Funny title guys. Very well done review. Hopefully Honda will bring these to North America before GM gets its act together or Tesla swamps the market. As for the "big car feel", Honda does that well -- their Odyssey actually feels like you're driving an Accord. The 1990s 4-door model (more like a stationwagon) really did feel and drive like a sedan. I don't know how the Honda engineers do it. Some people plug in their Nintendo Switch to play while the car is charging. I think there is a simulated aquarium as well, very Zen.

I really like it and totally agree with the battery size comments, same with the mini really. Personally I'd have the mini for the power and performance it has over the Honda, it's a shame it doesn't perform as well as it looks. Not sure about the charging either the Mini will charge well if only t 50kW, but I've seen a test of the Honda that shows it throttling a lot and possibly even rapid gating. (teslabjorn) so even though it will charge a bit faster than 50kW it probably would be slower overall than the mini.

Loved it from the first time I saw it last year. If only the range was like the Zoe which is what, 245 miles at a stretch?. I don't know the size of the Honda in comparison to the Zoe but if Renault can fit a battery in the Zoe that'll give that sort of range, why not Honda? When you say the HDMI input is unique... I assume you just mean in terms of it's the first on an electric car? As my Jag back in 2016 had HDMI inputs and with the dual-view screen in the front the passenger would see one thing on the display whilst the driver saw something completely different. Not a huge fan of the cameras for mirrors - I have the same for the rear view on one of my current cars (and leave it in normal mirror mode 90% of the time - only really gets used in camera mode at night due to the enhanced night picture - so you can see who you've run over), and it's weird having to change your focal length... When you're looking out of the windscreen, you're focus is in the distance, when you then glance at a normal mirror the focal length is the same because you're looking at the reflection of something in the distance - but when it's a screen, you have to re-focus as it's closer to you rather than in the distance.

As for space my 5 man tent will go in the boot it goes in the front of my smart roadster, the mini had no space behind me, having had the smart a Morgan and an asbo orange gt86 used to stares and international compliments and hand gestures. Totally fell in love with this car from the instant I saw the concept a few years ago. Shame they didn't keep the illuminated "H" and the ability to write messages to display on the front and rear black screens. The only thing I don't like is the price. fully spec'd up it is in excess of 35K which almost puts it in Tesla territory, and Honda isn't what I call a premium brand. The 3 pin plug addition is class and shows what should be done in all EV's, but the range. Why have such a small range? The AC outlet is obviously good for camping, but not if you live in London and have to stop 6 times to recharge to get to Scotland where your campsite is.

Honda seems to think the nobody needs to transport things any more. The new Jazz has hacked through the previously roomy space at the back to make the car look nicer from the outside. Now they have the great electric city car that requires you to carry your shopping on the back seats. The Honda E is not a small car. It just feels small when you try to use it.

We all have to give Tesla their dues for kicking off this great race toward EV’s and although great and innovative battery technology and electric power trains need and will be developed further as the race progresses - and provided ICE car makers are prepared to do what Honda has just done i.e. launched with a completely new (small car) EV platform we shouldn’t underestimate for a moment the huge amount of design, build and execution aka manufacturing experience they bring to the table .... so I am pleased today’s potentially new classic is a Honda (being a long time Honda motorbike and (small) car fan! :-)

Got to say I think Honda have got the electrification thing absolutely spot on. Right now, let's be honest, the UK (and most of the world) isn't ready to go full electric. We're moving in that direction but there's a long way to go. Honda's strategy of moving their entire range to hybrid in the next couple of years starts getting people used to electric and their system seems to be pretty damn good. In the meantime they can bring out something like the E as a lower volume niche model and use the extra price that's kinda inherent to current EV tech to make something new and different. Now here's the question... will we see that dashboard setup in, say, the new Civic? Set it a little lower down with the Civic's much much lower driving position and those of that grew up with Knight Rider will finally be able to have our own K.I.T.T (or, I guess, H.I.T.T)!!

As long as it has charging stations and doesn't suggest a search for petrol stations when range is low... I work in navigation, POI part, german car, we have charging stations blacklisted on non-PHEVs but not the other way around. A regular Honda E is insurance group 25 which is pretty high. Most i3s are insurance group 21 which is still high for the kind of car it is. If you can find a used i3 for a decent price and the degradation seems minimal, then it's a good deal. Otherwise, you might be more interested in a car in a lower insurance group.

Had hoped you would had a chance to review the e many moons ago. You have had time to do your research. This is not a 2 ton car. You can adjust Regen with paddles in One Pedal mode, as well Normal. So 4+4 levels. Watch CarPervert for the Best e Review. You are right that ride quality is premium, like a larger car.
