FOR THE REVERSE WIRE: You can also hook up to the relay switch behind the glove box, this is THE Easiest option to hookup your backup camera to the reverse wire / backup lights on all Honda Elements. Simply remove the glove box just like when changing cabin air filters, when you remove the glove box you will see 4 black relay switches, the front right one, if you pull it out then push your reverse wire cable in with that front first blade of that relay, you can then push it back down, and it's snug as a bug in a rug. Then hook your ground to the metal frame somewhere, NO need to solder, or splice, and now your backup camera will turn on when you switch into reverse, easy peasy. This worked perfectly for my Daughters 2008 Honda Element.

Thanks for this post. Having a hell of a time finding the reverse wire/enough space to access. Does it matter which fin you stick the wire in with? Also, what ground wire are you talking about? The reverse wire coming out of my stereo is just the one wire/no ground.

Where you go through the tight boot, try this. (I saw this in someone's video sorry.) Use a zip tie to go though. Spray your taped bump with silicone spray to help it wiggle through. Worked for me in wife's RDX.

Very interesting to see what's behind all the interior plastic trim! Fortunately my Carplay unit only requires trim removal of the rear tail gate trim and activating the video with a power tap from the reverse light.

@@violentmiracle6213 I installed a Power Accoustik CP 650 CarPlay unit. It has the single yellow video connector for the camera. I ran this video feed under the driver dash, under the door sills and cargo trim to under the lift gate. Tapped red power to the reverse bulb wire and grounded the black. My camera required a 1/8 hole to be drilled near the license plate light to mount the camera and feed wire from the camera. Lots of room in the tailgate for connections. I did not remove any dash covers or cargo covers. At the time of mounting the CarPlay deck I pulled the video cable under the driver dash and door sills.

Avoid electrical tape whenever possible IMO, it attracts ants. Heat shrink tubing is the way to go.

Why did you wire it behind the fuse box as apposed to just going directly to the reverse light? It seems like the wire splicing/soldering at least would have been easier this way. Is it harder to hide the wires this way or something?

Another option to protect a solder joint is shrink tubing
@FrankGraffagnino
@FrankGraffagnino Жыл бұрын
Yes but that only works if you have a cut wire or an end disconnected do you have a way to slide it on. If you are soldering to the middle of a wire that is still connected, that won't be an option
@chatter7653
@chatter7653 Жыл бұрын
@@FrankGraffagnino what I would have done, since it’s a solder joint anyway and they are very strong, is cut the original cable , then strip splice and solder the three as one, then you could also slide the shrink tubing on but your way works but you have the tidier look of the heat shrink but there’s no wrong answer really …once I find the Element I want I am going to add a touch screen receiver myself so this is relevant to me

Great video! It was really helpful on my camera installation. There is an easier way to tap the reverse wire on the center console, passenger side. Is the #15 write on connector C454.

It was provided to me by Crutchfield customer service. It is the same green wire, it just happens to pass through the center of the vehicle and is exposed and easier to deal with in this area. Are you able to independently operate the factory subwoofer bass levels after installing this deck? I had best buy install my pioneer deck and the guy who did the install said I can't do that anymore. I don't remember why.. If I want to adjust the bass I have to adjust the bass that controls all of the speakers. :(

How did you run the wires from the aux/ USB port? did you drill holes to get behind the stereo? Or did you run them under the plastic near the pedals?
@FrankGraffagnino
@FrankGraffagnino 2 жыл бұрын
Just went outside and checked - yeah we just drilled a small hole. But, to be honest, we never use that USB port or aux input. Instead, we have a better USB car charger that stays plugged in by the glovebox. So if you are thinking about it, you can probably skip it.

@@FrankGraffagnino I appreciate your help! I am about to install my new wireless carplay radio for my 05' Element and I needed info on the VSS wire and how to install a usb port. Which kit did you use for your double din stereo? I have a Honda Element 2007 LX. I have most things ready, I just need to be able to mount my double din stereo. (Previous owner had an aftermarket Alpine single din stereo. I dont the original kit.)

Thanks for the reply. I'll take it into consideration. Great instructional video by the way. I'm basically all set for the install, now all I need to tackle is where I will be placing the USB/AUX/HDMI(for screen sharing the iPhone). Whether I will be buying the port you bought or drilling a hole somewhere to give it a factory feel. Choosing a rear view camera. And choosing the method to join the cables: soldering and heat shrinking, crimping the butt connectors, or using crimp caps.
