Honda Engine Refresh | Making a D16 look good!

In this episode I tackle an engine refresh for a friend of mine, and document some of the process. This was a neat little project, and I appreciate everyone checking it out! Sorry about the audio cutting out at the end, but regardless, "We'll see you on the next one!"

14:40 Best technique I've found for stud extraction is to spin on two nuts, separated by a lockwasher, and counter-rotate them to tighten them against each other. Then get an open end and spin out the INNER nut (so that loosening it moves in the tightening direction towards the other nut). Star washers might even be better. ViseGrips can and do damage threads.

That is the Common technique. Vice grips is just ignorant and dumb if you ask me bc u will do some damage.

D16Y7 is not VTEC. Unless it has a Y8 head (mini me swap)

@@DANIEL-ls5ku A D16Y7 is not VTEC. If you remove the valve cover, you’ll see it doesn’t have the higher profile cam lobes that are for VTEC. Also, look at the back of the head on the left side behind the dizzy. If you don’t see a VTEC solenoid, it’s a solid chance that it isn’t. A mini mi swap is essential replacing your stock y7 intake and stock head with a d16Y8 intake manifold and cylinder head. You also need to wire in the wire for VTEC I believe and maybe even change the ECU from an EX.

@@DANIEL-ls5ku honestly, I’d go with a D16Z6 or a D16Y8. That’s only if you’re gonna keep it D Series tho. But if you have the know how and financial capabilities, I’d go b series all the way.
