I've had a Honda D16A6 sitting around from my old 91 Civic hatchback that I no longer have. Here it is, almost 10 years later and I decided to pull it out, break it down, and prep it for some new parts. Here I'll show you how to remove the pick up tube, crank girdle, pistons, crankshaft, oil pump, rear main seal, water pump and some of the basic accessories.

Cool. We like the CRX's as much as we like the Civics. We're currently putting a D15 together for our Civic just to get it rolling until we get some more parts for the D16. Thanks for watching!

Haven't finished the video yet, but what you said around the 9 minute mark is very true now-a-days haha. My JDM SOHC non-vtec ZC engine (Japanese D16A6) just recently decided to have a random oil pump failure. I searched for about 3 months for a replacement D15B7, D16A6, D15B2, or JDM ZC engine. Couldn't find anything in my local area that didn't need a rebuild, even for $600+ haha I miss the days of being able to find these engines for $50-150, even free sometimes. I ended up tearing apart my ZC and inspecting the bearings, turns out there was no damage, so it was actually cheaper for me to replace the oil pump than it would have been to find a replacement engine, which used to not be the case for the D series lol One tip I've figured out over the years as well, if it takes an excessively strong impact gun or excessive amount of force to remove the crankshaft pulley bolt, that tells me the engine has been overheated at some point. Every D series I've ever struggled with to remove the crank bolt has always ended up being a junk bottom end due to previous owners overheating the engine.

Yeah, the parts are getting hard to find and way too expensive. These engines were in so many cars and it's like the companies are just raising the price on the few good parts that are left. We priced bearings for the bottom end and it was over $400.00 just for bearings. That's not how it was 20 years ago. Hard to even find these in the junkyard anymore, they've been grenaded or crushed. Kind of sad. Thanks for watching!

@@allhailinternalcombustion Anytime man! I subscribed to keep up with the progress! But I totally know what you mean. Just 5 years ago I was able to source an entire set of color matched OEM main and rod bearings for maybe $200ish or less. Like you said, it has basically doubled in price for the parts to do a proper rebuild on these things. Even used engines are becoming scarce and over-priced.

The cool thing I've noticed about older Honda blocks is the cylinders don't wear the way American V-8's did. Our D15 has 260,000 miles on it and other than the crosshatch being gone, the cylinders are perfectly round and have no taper. Good luck and have fun with your build!
