What was not mentioned here is that there are essentially THREE different types of engines commonly referred to as ‘F-series’. The TRUE F-series engines are the SOHC engines used in the Accords, Odysseys, CL’s and base Preludes. These were available as 2.2 or 2.3 liter engines. Then there is the F20B and F22B. These are actually H-series engines. The F20B is a destroked H22A and the F22B a destroked H23A1. Finally, the S2000 F20C and F22C are clockwise spinning engines which are essentially K-series variants.

Haters are noobs, who can't see the difference between a car and a shopping trolley. I've worked on nearly thousands of cars in the last 20 years and I got into the japanese cars a while ago, as I realised, those are the best cars hands down. I've had Mazdas and Toyotas, but lately I got have Hondas. And I will never go back. I don't say, Honda will remain the best for ever, but compare cars since the 80's, apart from some of the BMW's, you can't go wrong with a Honda. Some blindfolded guys, who sware on VAG diesels, I just laugh on them. Peug diesels are far more superior compare to any german diesels, yet how popular those A4's nowadays? Anyway. If you want a good reliable and good performing car, with decent fuel economy, a compact little rocket or a family car, all of them are great.

Honda is notorious for creating new engine designs, but using letter designations from older, unrelated engines. The 2 best examples I can think of are B and F. In the late 80s, Accords and Preludes had a B20. They aren't related to the later B series mentioned in this video that mainly came in the Civic and Integra. The F series from the S2000 in this video has nothing in common with the earlier F series found in the Accord/Odessey/Prelude* in the 90s and early 00s. * Prelude engines were designated H22/H23 in most of the world, but in Japan, there was a version of the H22 that was designated F22. It was the same engine, just called someting else in Japan.

Reliability issues are more common in H series than F, due to the frm cylinder liners most H series have. One of the local guys in my area ran 10's on an f22 block with an f23 head all stock internals on ebay turbo setup. The F series have the strongest blocks but both H and F (except f20b and s2k) cannot handle high rpms as well because their larger blocks create a ton of crank walk (fluctuation in the journals) past 7500 rpm.

Are the K series much superior than any other series?
@nezabytes4 жыл бұрын
I think they are even better than the new k20c1. The k20c1 omits the vetch on the intake side, which is terrible for us tuners who want big cams with factory idle(That's the whole point of VTECH). If in the future, Honda implements VTECH on both cams, then that engine will be king. Oh, and maybe take what Hyundai did and incorporate that into the k20C1.

The F isnt popular because it's sohc and has low compression (meaning lower HP). Slap some pistons in it equal to that of an H and it will perform damn near to what an H will. The F is the economy version to the H, just as the D is to the B. The F22a is the epitome of reliability when it comes to Honda. Alot of tuners actually prefer the F block because of it's turbo piston friendly iron sleeves unlike the H which have FRM. It is possible to put an H head on an F block but it takes alot of work to do it right and really by that time you may as well have purchased an H. The F22a came in a jdm dohc version, very similar to the h23 nonvtec, just with 2mm smaller pistons.

Its the only family I have never seen before here in the U.S. it would not be a good swap at all because there is no aftermarket support, so unless you have pretty good fabrication skills and don't mind searching far and wide everytime you need a part...

Honda: tiny engine, million rpm, decent peak power (if you have patience), 3 ft-lb torque, noise that implies sound-barrier breaking speed.

Mine was turboed after 1 year of ownership. i did the frankenstien shortly before. i was makeing roughly 230 had a few power adders installed prior to the turbo walboro 255 fuel pump 750cc injectors stainless steel headers and hollow cats and an exhaust. i cant remember the company by no mean was it rice sounding had a super deep hum.

What about the new NSX with the 3.5Liter DOHC V6 twin turbo. Is that a variant of the J-series engine?
@Carstuff1114 ай бұрын
As someone that has helped a friend build and tune his high compression LS/VTEC (B18A1 block/ported B18C1 head) engine and also has tuned it, the B-series is a marvel of late 1980's/early 1990's technology. The B-series engines truly feel like motorcycle engines in cars. The only disappointing B-series to me was the B20, at least bone stock. The rest of the B-series line, as long as there is a manual transmission backing the engine, they all feel great to drive from just off idle to red line. When I finally got to drive a well built H-series though, and felt the amount of torque that beast can make.....I kinda want to H swap my other Civic.... I can say I also truly respect what the K-series is able to do as well. Drove a friend's 4 door Civic Si with its K24 before and after some mods. I was not impressed with the car stock. With bolt-ons and a tune by Humble Performance, I suddenly wanted his car. Honda engines can be SOOO awesome with so little effort, and they tend to be pretty darned good from the factory.
