I had a friend who worked on propane forklifts. He said when they pulled the engines down they were spotless inside, the only problem was the bores were torn to pieces. He suggested gasoline( What we call petrol herein Australia) is a lubricant so start your cold engine on gasoline first once warm switch to propane. The gas will lubricate the bore until the generator has pumped oil around the engine. Most gas cars in Australia do actually start on gasoline (Petrol)once running they switch to gasoline automatically to prevent excessive bore wear. Something worth thinking about in particular with a generator that has been sitting around for months the bores will be completely dry.

Hello: You did well, slick job. I hate it when the little plastic parts don't cooperate with me. This would be the thing to do the Lincoln Ranger 225, 23 HP. if I get it. And put a 80 Lbs. tank on it. I do not like the Ethanol Gas sitting. I want the Lincoln but I'm tight that's why I don't have it yet. Have a Good One

BTW I have the same drill and have had it for like 8-10 years. The think is pretty tough and has seen many many ladder drops and tough screws. Its finally starting to fail in the gear box but def getting another craftsman,

When checking 'on load' try using something like a small fan heater, oil filled radiator, hair dryer/heat gun or halogen work lamp/s. They give a steady load and there's plenty of time to then play around with settings. Thanks for the video :o) * * * * *

Nice demonstration. I would be curious to see a honda generator, which is modified for propane, running on wood gas as an alternative fuel. In a serious long term grid down situation propane may not be available to most. Even if you've stockpiled propane, at some point the supply will run out. Woodgas then may be the only viable option for running engines, aside from HHO / Brown's gas. The drawback to Brown's gas is the need to produce on demand. With available solar, enough gas and be produced via electrolysis to keep an engine running. However in the absence of solar making gas on demand isn't possible. At this point using wood gas to power a generator seems like the practical solution.

I work on boats and we have the same problem with motors gumming up after sitting. So if you have enough initiative get your self some and run your stuff low on ethanol and put this in at the end of the year just to fill your carb up.

I have read that propane is actually 110 percent octane causing the engine to run hotter meaning the exhaust valves have burned out due to extreme heat. Regular gasoline is 87 percent octane.

A bank of old fashioned light bulbs would probably work better for a load bank. That way you can hear the engine... honda EUs are great machines. Chris

Nice job, but it looks like you used (white) Teflon tape. Yellow tape is specifically made to be used for gas piping. White plumber’s Teflon tape (on gas pipe fittings) will degrade over time and gas vapors can escape from the fitting. Plumber’s Teflon is white in color and also thinner than yellow gas-rated Teflon tape. Other than that, still a nice video to explain the installation.

That's good to know. Just curious why I've never seen the yellow teflon tape in stores. Is it commonly available and i've missed it all these years?

@@acoustic4037 Never knew this either. I guess the yellow tape can be used for more things than the white. I'm gonna ask next time I'm at Home Depot. I also think it's a shame at such a high price the Honda isn't made multi fuel functional by the flick of a switch from the beginning.

I was going to post the question of wood gas to run it but it was already posted so my question would be... do you need to do this conversion to tri-fuel to run wood gas? I have 2 of the EU2000's and was going to try wood gas by just modifying the airbox to have my connection from the gasifier. (still need to finish building it though) Keep up all the good work and I look forward to each and every video.

Gasoline's ignition point is 475-536 degrees F. Propane's ignition point is 470-878 degrees F. Could this damage the engine?

I did it with a deferent kit and no need to exchange the carburetor, to be honest not sure which is better. Not saying anything bad about the kit you are mounting just curious if you have looked at the Hutch Mountain kit which is pretty more expensive.

Since it's a fairly simple mod and seems to be popular, I'm surprised it hasn't been added on as a factory option. Does this mod kill the 3 year factory warranty?

I don't know what Honda recommends, but several auto manufacturers recommend running their engines for several thousand miles with normal fuel (gasoline) before converting to propane. The propane is so clean that there is not enough very fine grit to break in the engine, as there is in gas. The broken in engine runs better and more efficiently. After break in, you convert to propane. This may be inconvenient for the kit company, but better for the engine.

Thanks for the video! Quick question: what PSI rating does your regulator hose have? I can't get my setup to run in the double regulator configuration (the small one on the hose, and the large one on the generator)?

the hose after the lp regulator only needs to carry 1/2 psi as this is the max the demand regulator will stand for pressure. and the hose from the demand regulator is a suction hose as it sucks the fuel from the demand regulator.

Now make sure ya put some fuel stabilizer in the tank if all ya can get is ethanol gas or run it all out dry. Run the gen at least once every month if not in use.

I only have hundred pound tanks. I've only ran my twice, once for thirty minutes and once for an hour. Changing the oil after both times, and the tank seems to weigh the same to me.

The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

You dont need to remove the original carburator you just make a hole in the plastic inlet just in front of carburator put the gas line from regulator there and add some silicone

I have thought about doing this for awhile now. I have heard rumors that if you do this to a regular generator that isn't built to deal with the additional heat produced by the propane it can cause damaged to your generator. Has anyone else heard this?

Question about the CMD EU2000i Tri-Fuel conversion kit: Which fitting did you use to connect the hose from the propane tank to the large, round gas regulator provided by CMD? My understanding is it requires a male-to-male 3/8" to 3/4" fitting, but I can't find one ANYWHERE -- locally or online. Please help!

Is it an actual Honda carburetor they give you? There is another kit available on the market that doesn't require touching the carb. It injects the propane through a gasket that goes between the carb. and the breather box.

no RPM control (no eco throttle)? This also won't work (or work but not for long) in freezing temperatures. Car regulators are heated by tapping into the coolant line, it's a bit of a problem with air cooled engines with no easy solutions. In freezing temperatures the evaporator membrane won't last long without this. Do you think there's demand for cheaper propane kits without carb modification and with easily reversible install?

Auto gas vaporizors use the heat to flash the liquid propane to usable vapor. Small tanks in high demand applications can not absorb enough heat energy via conduction to maintain proper tank head pressure. There are 100s of thousands (or more) of vapor only regulators in cold weather applications.

Just in terms of cost to run, is it more or less economical than using gasoline? Assuming today's gas price of about $2.40 per gallon. Why do you have two regulators on the propane? You do not need the one on the tank I think.

The tank regulators reduce the tank pressure (100+psi) to appliance level pressure (9-14 inches) the "disk" regulator is a negative pressure unit. If it doesnt see vacuum from the engine's intake it will shut off fuel flow. This way if engine stalls, fuel isn't left dumping out.

I would think Ethanol would be more sustainable longer periods then gasoline if and when something happens to the grid. Unless there is easy ways to create propane? I have seen some cool videos on methane/biogas i would assume this would work with that as well?

harder to run these smaller gens on pure ethanol... the jetting and emulsion tubes size is way off in the carbs. but bio gas or methane or natural gas is viable with this kind of kit!! you just use the 1/2 psi max pressure to the demand regulator. and adjust the load block a bit richer than on lp.

How does the gasoline and propane work as far as once you have gas in the tank and your running gasoline and you shut off the gas and start the flow of propane . Do you have to run the gen till it stops running on gasoline once you shut the shut off valve off. great video I'm going to do that to mine . would you do anything different from the way you did it now that you have had it a while. can you add a link to where you got the conversion kit . easy way to shut off the gas is do a separate kill switch like in the hutch mountain kits... then the oem honda fuel kill switch becomes just a fuel shut off valve.

Nice video! I have a couple questions: A few years ago I looked into converting one of my gasoline vehicles to LPG. I discovered that the MPG for propane is less than gasoline and was wondering if you go through more LPG than you initially thought you would? Also, have you noticed a difference in maximum power output of the generator when using different fuels? Thank you!

+John Norris I have the same question, I live in a country where 40-50% of the vehicles run on LPG, I know that LPG does not have the same efficiency than Gasoline but is 3 times cheaper than a gallon of gasoline (lets say it works for cars at least in the economical way) but on generators I'm wondering if LPG is more efficient? because generators runs on same RPMs all the time they compensate a little with surge load but nothing drastic. ---Sorry for my english is not my native language.. John Norris propane does have less BTUs per gallon than gasoline does, although it has quite a high octane rating. Most engines are somewhere around 9 or 9 and a half to 1 compression ratio or so. This is in order to use with regular gasoline. If you raise the compression ratio to 13 or 14 to 1 you will get quite a bit more power and efficiency, but you can't run it on regular gasoline anymore, although you can run it on propane, or other high octane fuel surpassing the difference in BTUs per gallon. This is why very high performance race cars use higher octane fuels with high compression engines to get better power and efficiency. Many use alcohol , I've seen some use propane, and some use very high octane gasoline. They do not use regular gasoline.

I use product know as solexx. On work surface and floor. 12pack or 2 litre Soda signs from gas stations the 3x4 or whatever dimensions. Then just put behind door for storage. Easy to just lift and tip into garbage can. Can fold to funnel. Save the nicer as memorabilia. Then it's no honey never work in here you know that. Just wiping up the mountain dew poster.

The "disk" regulator is a negative pressure regulator. It will only allow fuel flow in the presence of a vaccum on its outlet. This provides proof of run from the engine and prevents fuel from being dumped out causing an obvious safety hazzard. The manual prime button allows the user to momentarily override this ssfety to provide a shot of fuel in the system to allow the engine to start and produce the vacuum
