hi you dont need to take it all apart like that to get of the carb just the one side you can remove the linkage from the carb and governor arm it tricky but can be done

If you do it the proper way and you won't damage the governor arm or its linkage.

Its likely to be either the output condensor or the stator. Easiest to check is the condensor. It lives under a white plastic cover on the reverse of the front cover roughly in the center. Its about the size and shape of a matchbox and will have either 8uF or 10uF written on it. If its cracked or bulging then theres a clue but you probably need to measure its capacitance to be sure. If that's OK then its probably a blown stator.

You shouldn't need to remove the fuel tank at all to clean the carb buit you will need to disconnect the fuel line from the carb and they can get a bit sticky. Try twisting the fuel pipe where it fits to the carb to break the bond between rubber and metal. If its still difficult then best to cut it of with a sharp knife and replace it rather than risk breaking the fuel connector on the carb by forcing it. The fuel pipe is 4mm i/d. Use braided hose and refit the bit of braided shield pipe.

Hi. US here. After removing the two panel side screws and two on top at gas tank, the tank still wants to pull away as I pull away the side cover (very strange). Can I go ahead anyways? (gas tank is empty). Also, the rubber tubing going onto the stem of carb just won't come off. Cut it off and replace it at reassembly and reuse the tube sheathing? Can you even do that? Feed a tube thru the sheathing?

Just tried to start mine after it's been stored in the shed for a long time. When I turned it on, petrol spewed out of the bottom. The petrol was coming from what I believe (after watching your video) to be the overflow pipe. It's definitely not the pipe that's for draining the petrol. This suggests to me that the carburettor is completely blocked. Can you confirm that? Although I could possibly strip it down, following your videos, do you know of anyone in Scotland, preferably near Edinburgh, who can service it?

I'm in the US and I have an EM650 that looks almost identical under the shell to the EX650. I bought it used but it had been sitting for almost 30 years with no use, and no fuel in it. After I took the Carb off to clean it and followed the proper steps to set the governor it just stays full throttle and puts out way too much power, It doesn't seem like the governor is doing anything. Is there something that goes wrong with the governor inside the unit? I've been scratching my head for 2 years trying to get my little Honda gene to put out reliable power.

that's right let the tank come away with the front panel if all you are doing is cleaning the carb. The only tube you should need to disconnect is the fuel line.

Why don't you remove all the nuts that hold the pan to the bottom of the engine?

Its not necessary and you would still meed to undo the earthing cable if you wanted to take it out of the chassis

I have em650I just got it it's been sitting for awhile so I changed the plug and oil made sure every thing was hooked up started it wit starter fluid but can't get it to stay running unless I blow into a hose attached to carb and I don't know we're the hose goes that comes from gas on gas off any way any help would be good

The washer in the fuel tap is damaged, probably through operating the tap when the tank is empty and the tap is dry. You need a new fuel tap as the washer is not available separately and the fuel tap is riveted together anyway. I have heard of cases where people have drilled the rivets out of the tap to get at the washer. You can then heat the washer up in red rubber grease and sometimes this will swell the washer enough to fix the problem. Of course you could just block off the leaking pipe as long as the main fuel pipe is being shut off successfully by the tap. I have a few second hand ones. [e-mail].
