Just to clarify I’m not saying the bike won’t do 80 I’m saying I wish that it had a 6th gear to drop the rpms while doing so

Put thousands of interstate miles on my '13. Up and down eastern seaboard as well as coast to coast. 55000+mi. Many at over 80mp. It never "screamed." It wanted a bigger fuel tank but it never screamed. Put a throttle boss on it and just let it roll. Got hit and totaled. Used the insurance $ to get a 2019. Doing 85-90 yesterday for several miles. NP. 6th gear would be nice but it would still want to do more once it topped out that gear as well.
@Aric_V5 жыл бұрын
Yes it can do it Iam not denying that it just doesn’t feel like you’re cruising it’s more you’re mid power band (2n half to 4)vs like cruising power band (1500 to 2n half)

@@Aric_V Hi there, I am looking to buy a Fury at some stage; just need to know how bad the handlebar vibration is at 80 to 90mph. I'm an older guy and the vibration on my Indian Scout at those speeds (legal on the highway here in South Africa 😁) is not good on my wrist
@Aric_V4 жыл бұрын
I’d almost look for something with a full dress it’s not gonna be horrible but at those speeds you’re gonna want a sixth gear as well as a larger fuel cell

That sounds like a ringing endorsement if you replaced your 2013 Fury with a 2019. Makes me want to go out and get a Fury. Cool looking bike.

Poor description. Nothing wrong with 5 gears. No prob riding at 80 mph CEPT WOND NOISE This is not an Overreving screamer. Liquid cooled and low engine noise. HONDA CRUISER SHIELD good to about 60 mph. Won't do over 99 mph. Pillion seat is a 1 mile seat as you mention, but at 19 as you say, no trouble for a young butt. Been riding a Fury for 11 years. Got 2. #1 is 2010, F/No. Is 3. Got a 2016 F/No. Is 33. I knew more at 19 as a USN sailor or at leat I thought I did (young know it all) than I do at 72. 60 years Honda experience on all products including 25 years corporate. All service related. Thumbs-up to you for your presentation.

That 1300 engine is relaxed at 80, I have reached 125, it sounds hard and seems to be forced, but no, it is designed to cruise at 80 miles

I have the 08 touring model and that thing will cruise at 90mph all day and can easily go more without an issue. I’ve take enough road trips to find its suit spots and its well over 80. I think it’s just the chopper frame making it not ride as well.
@stanleydenning5 жыл бұрын
This bike is geared for local cruising and not long distance treks. Only a seasoned biker from the 70's would do a 2,000 mile trip on a chopper. ( Like me. ) Planning a long Highway trip ? Change out the rear sprocket for one with 5 less teeth. There's about. Sluggish on the take off but better RPM at 80.
@mrhatty20853 жыл бұрын
Change the rear sprocket? That'll be fun on a shaft drive bike! What gets me is these kids think 6 gears give you a higher final drive! Maybe just shut up and ride!

I have a VTX 1800 R. The 1800 actually turns a few more RPMs on the highway than the 1300. Mine does not seem to be running too many RPMs cruising down the interstate it 80 or well above. I do agree with you that the fury is a very good looking bike. I do not know how much power the 1300 has.Put my 1800 has 86 hp at the rear wheel.
@mrhatty20853 жыл бұрын
The 1312 makes around 58hp at the back wheel and around 75 at the crank. Respectable, but Torque is where these engines excel.

They must have geared the Fury lower because my 1300 VTX will go 80 mph all day without "screaming" at me. Maybe it's because the Fury is only 53 HP now and my VTX 1300 is 74 HP. They don't handle as well either so that's another negative reason not to get one.

Although a 5 speed is "fine" you can see the benefit of a 6th gear if you go ride a Harley. Any big V Twin should have a 6th gear "overdrive" in America, some of us cruise 90mph over here so... Anyway my 05 VTX 1300 sits on 80-85 no prob. I love it. But it would be absolutely amazing with that 6th gear "overdrive" lol.

I have a 2001 Honda Valkyrie 5 speed gear box, it cruises just fine. In fact it will smoke a Fury, straight line or curvy roads. You can go ride 500 miles in a day pretty easily. 5 speed transmission has nothing to do with anything. It all a matter of how high your final gear is. My Valkyrie will top out at 125 MPH, it is limited by the gearing. 5th gear cruising at 80 is 3500 RPM tops. Not sure it maybe more like 3000? The bike is very smooth. A Fury tops out at around 105 MPH I think? Just a matter of the gearing. The Fury is meant to have a lot of torque through out it's gear range. A Fury isn't meant for eating miles but I'm sure it would handle 100's of miles easily. The wind would be more the problem. Not a bike I would put a windshield on. I'm going to go test ride one. Interested in the buy one so I need to take a highway run and see what's what with that. I would not use a Fury for a road trip bike any ways. That is the land of the Valkyrie.

good review. unique perspective.
@mrhatty20853 жыл бұрын
6 gears doesn't mean you get an extra high gear or overdrive! Final drive ratio is the same . Chain drive gives you the option of bigger sprockets, therefore taller gears. Shaft drive you can't alter. Ive done 80mph on a vt1300, its wasn't "screaming at me" but it wasn't comfortable either. When your speed limit is 55 (or 70 in my country) at 80 you're cop bait and thrashing your bike too. 45 to 60 is a lot more sensible and way easier on both bike and rider. You'll work it out son.
