Nice vedio , but there is no need to add oil to the filter before installing it, just install the filter empty and put the factory recommended amount of oil . leave the engine runing for few minutes , then check oil level again .

Good morning Sir, good to hear from you again, and I think yes, you're right, when Honda designed the later Goldwings, they must have had a meeting and decided they need to make more money from labour charges!... but as they couldn't put the labour rate up any higher, they just buried the filter deeper under more plastic! Love the old Goldwing content Del. Looking forward to a nice warm summer to put a few miles on my venerable old GL1100. FYI the Sealey brake bleed syringe unit from Spanner Monkey arrived today. Will let you know how things progress. Run my GL on Smith and Allan super 10-40 oil. It’s approved to API SL, JASO MA2 so perfectly suitable for motorcycles. Ride safe sir.

Del, used the Sealey bleed syringe, great piece of kit. Only took a few minutes to force the fluid from the calliper to the master cylinder reservoir. Let the system settle for a few days then bled the brakes in the conventional manner to remove the last traces of air. Next job, bleed the front brakes of my Z1000 A1 - should be nice and easy.

Nice video once again mr. Del. Washable airfilters are great, I use them all the time, They do require cleaning and re oiling from timt to time, however, and there some additional costs, such as a cleaning and re oiling kit. All in all, probably better for the environment! Learning a LOT from your technical skills and scrupulous attention to detail! Thank you sir,

Hi John, I like that, that pretty much sums up a Goldwing, like a Pandora's box of plastic panels! The Simota filter, just like K&N, come oiled and ready to fit, which is why they're in a sealed plastic bag, and you buy solvent and oil separately to service them later on!

Love these over engineered bikes, love them or loath them I personally love them. When I found out that they have hydraulic tappets like the old sibling bike the CBX that gave me another reason to own one (haven't got one yet but I will do) that oil Del was as black as the bike! A batwing with black blood, very sinister lol

It's largely an intimidating bike due to the amount of plastic that needs to be removed to get at anything. I love the way you show simple skills and lesser known tricks like the masking tape on the oil filter. Instead of reaching for the latest fancy wrench.

Yes mate, exactly that, the acronym stands for Ministry of Transport, a Government devised test carried out by approved testing stations to make sure vehicles are safe to be on the road, have to have one every year on bikes over 3yrs old!

I have a 2014 Ultra Limited that doesn’t get ridden much at all for various reasons. I use Mobil 1 synthetic and was wondering how long you would recommend leaving the oil in before changing it? Like time wise?

Hey buddy, it depends largely on your climate, if you're in a cold, wet climate you'll get lots of condensation inside the motor on short rides and the oil will gradually get waterlogged, leading to rust on internal surfaces, but if you live say in Arizona where it's hot and dry, your oil will last much longer, unless you get the bike super overheated on continued short parade runs... many Harleys don't do high mileage and in that situation, just drop the oil every year as part of your annual service regime, it doesn't cost much compared to the life of your engine so why not spoilt your baby!

Well I have reused the Sump Plug on my 12 Goldwing Umpteen Times...it never Leaks..... it does not appear to be deformed in any way...Hmmm..

"Hmmmm"? Not sure what that means? ... but if you're questioning the process, look how deformed mine was, if yours doesn't drop off the plug by itself, and it's jammed under the thread, then it is compacted and deformed, and your manual will always advise to replace it... and remember, it isn't just about leaking, the soft washer also acts to lock the thread and keep the plug in place in the repeated heat cycles any engine will go through...

Hi Del, after your video, I immediately ordered Simota for my V-Strom 650 2007. Later, after reading the filter cleaning instructions, I saw that they recommend cleaning with a Simota cleaner and compressed air. As far as I know other air filters such as K&N, BMC and others, also treat with a special degreaser, but then with a low pressure water. So can I clean the air filter with specialized detergents from the other brands (K&N, BMC ...) and can I wash the Simota air filter with water?

That question, if you want specifics, would be best directed to Wemoto technical department so they can cover exactly things like warranty and liabilities, however, on my own bikes, I've had not just Simota, but K&N, Green Cotton, and even the foam Pipercross, all of them recommend their own detergent and 'specialised oil', but I just use warm soapy water to clean them, let them air dry and use a brief spray over with WD40, and they've always been fine... now as a warning, am sure that will court howling objections from the screaming haters, but it works for me and that's what I do, never had a problem, but it largely depends on the amount of dirt you're sucking in, and the environment.. and just as a quick for instance, if you live in a place where it rains every day, then you need the oil content to cut down moisture ingress, but if you live somewhere like Arizona in the desert, then you run them bone dry, because they'd dust up like a fly paper in 100 miles and block solid, you keep them dry and bang them out by hand every month or so... horses for courses and all that!

The air filter is easier to do when the machine doesn't have a radio/cassette fitted like yours. I am surprised you didn't change the fuel filter while you had all the plastic off.

That top panel is just as easy to get off, and replace, with the audio unit fitted, it's just one extra plug to undo! And as for the fuel filter, it was replaced with the fuel pipe when I got the bike as it was weeping...

I watched the part where you put the center stand down and then somehow moved the whole bike forward into the front wheel chock on your lift several times now. Hey Gary, Big old girls for sure, and yes indeed, getting them safe and sited on the lift can be a poopanter every time. Ive never dropped one, but i guess if you do then she's staying down until you can get a crane over to pick her back up..! The washer was a bit stingey really, but £5 with shipping for a genuine Honda one was just too much when i can wizz one off in a few minutes.! @@Moonfleet41 lol yessir I once had a rental Harley Electraglide blow over in a high wind storm out in Utah back around 2003. I couldn’t right her back up no matter what I did. I was basically out in the desert with no one around for miles. Finally some 3 husky Native American women stopped after seeing my predicament. If took the 4 of us. What a day- but I’ve always had that story to tell about winds and big ladies- both kinds. Stay safe! Hope warm sunny weather blesses you both. 😎
