you stated that you're using the Mini Cooper coils, I'm in the UK so, the mini coil may be more available here. is this a new part & is the same as the neon? have you got part code? thnx.
@HooptieDoodle5 жыл бұрын
The MINI part # is 12137510738. I wired this in exactly as one would the Neon coil and it works great. As far as I can tell these are exchange-ably the same part.

Best tutorial for this coil swap that I've seen.. I appreciate that you explain the process to everything and why you do it.

Have you got to start it yet? If not, then soon hopefully lol

Mega thanks for the compliment 😁

@@picklerickc1375 I have started it. I even drove it, but now the bike is, yet again, apart to get new head gaskets. I had water in the oil.

@@picklerickc1375 this Mini Cooper coil totally works, which is a relief 😌

@@HooptieDoodle that's awesome man. I like seeing you come up with your own way for stuff too.. I don't have the mind to do that. Especially with electrical stuff. Hopefully my coils never go bad, but if/when they do, I'll definitely use your video

Very cool! I like the idea of a different coil pack than the stock one.

It works 😁. And others have seen improved performance. I never knew the bike without, so I have no reference.

Can you do this swap while using the factory points ignition?
@a.j.sgarage96375 жыл бұрын
Do you plan on putting a partial fender over the rear tire? I dont want to on mine. But if I hit a pothole and bop off the seat, that wheel is like a meat grinder..

No, I am going past impractical to debatably dangerous, ya know full cool, like the kids do 😁. No fenders.

What is the advantage to swapping in the Neon/ Mini coil vs. keeping the original coil?
@HooptieDoodle5 жыл бұрын
It is cheaper than new OEM or Dynatek coils and I've read others believe that their engines run better with the Neon coil.

@@HooptieDoodle, thank you for the response. BTW, I have wanted to build one of these for some time. Your videos gives me the answers and confidence to do it. I am looking at an '86 on Saturday.

what did you do with the ballast resistor? I am currently fighting my ignition issues after I followed exactly what you did in your video. Right now the bike runs but has a very week idle it dies, it doesn't like to be revvved up now and I can't find any information online on what happens to the ballast resistor when you do this mod
@johnk6837 Жыл бұрын
This sounds like an intermittent issue I had with this swap. It turns out it was just a loose wire. I’m not even sure which one, but I tightened them all up and the issue went away. Hope this helps

@@HooptieDoodlewhat did you end up doing. I'm staring at a rats nest on 1981 GL1100 I'm just starting on. I've been considering replacing the whole harness if fixing the old means I'll have to learn it intimately anyway
