Thank you. Getting the HR-V! I find it useful for a split second lift the foot off the accelerator occasionally when I want to facilitate CVT gear change. This momentarily allows the program in the ECU to realign the Engine and CVT into a new fuel economy equilibrium. This also minimise the engine noise in some instances. Can't wait for mine to arrive.

Thanks. Back in the days I was driving buses myself, and we had artics on 3 inner-city routes with an average consumption of around 60 l/100 km (we were back in Euro 4/5 days), the highest I have seen was over 80 (!!!) l/100 kms (82,4, in fact, I've got even a picture of that), over a couple of years I was averaging 48 l/100 kms (still have all my excel-sheets with the data, some 15 years later), thats some whopping 71% higher consumption under the same circumstances! With my business now we work with bus-operators and we see huge differences between drivers, sometimes up to 60% more than the best ones, and the funny thing is (well, it's not funny if you know the reasons behind) that those efficient drivers on average are the ones more punctual than the other ones.

We drive a Jazz at the moment but people tend to tailgate and pull out in front of you in this car. So we are considering the HRV being committed Honda drivers. The reliability can perhaps only be bettered by Toyota and Lexus. The only things which bother me with the HRV is that it received only a 4* crash rating from NCAP and it is made in Mexico not Japan or UK. The only other vehicles we are considering are the Jazz crosstar and the Toyota Yaris cross . The Crosstar is not a full height SUV, just a Jazz jacked up by about 4cm , and the Yaris Cross looks good but the back seat is small. Both these cars are very fuel efficient . I hope this is useful to anyone considering these cars.

Thanks Helmut good review. Could I ask why you never used 'B'' Mod for max regen? In Austria you have the advantage of very long down hill stretches. They are very few and far between in the UK, so I doubt many here would be able to reach the 2000MPG downhill that you did , thereby lowering the average UK MPG quite considerably. Where I live there are no motorways and few 70 MPH (112KM/H) roads. Max single carriageway here is 60mph (100KM/H) Over the 5 months I have owned my HR-V, bearing in mind my comments above, my average is 60MPG using 'Eco' all the time and 'B' most of the time, specially out of town.
@ecodriver17462 жыл бұрын
Hi Colin, re B-Mode: whether you use B-Mode to brake or press the brake-pedal to brake doesn't make any difference in the efficiency of the regen. It's always the same. I barely use B as - in order to drive efficiently - I try to avoid braking, so it's better to have the car coast as much as possible (although the HR-V doesn't really coast, it always brakes/regens a bit). And the way I drive it is much more comfortable for me as often I don't need to push any pedal, as the car coasts. With B I'd have to stay on the Gaspedal much more in order to avoid harsh braking. Re 2000 mpg downhill, well, you can only get that if you got up the hill beforehand.... ;) After uphill, hills and downhill I was at 61,4 mpg, at the end it was 74,3, so if we take that mountains and hills out the consumption for mixed road, motorway and city combined was 81,2 mpg. Long descents are even a disadvantage for Full-Hybrids, as there is not enough capacity in the battery to store all the energy potentially produced on the way down. After around 100-150 m of loss in altitude (c. 300-450 ft.) the battery is full and all braking is done by the friction brakes.

Good video, the most intresting part is to se how much the car consumes when your driving for 120 km/H and 130/kmh on a roadtrip for like 1,5hours to 2hours. Lets say you drive a 2hour drive on 130km/h. Will it consume more than a petrol engine like 8.0/100km or will it stay below 6.0/100km ?
@ZGI10 ай бұрын
If constant 130kmh then it would be around ~7.3-7.5l (when not loaded with 4 passengers or lots of baggage). And there is a big difference between 120kmh and 130kmh, for example at 120kmh it would be around 6.2l, and around 110kmh even further to 5.7l, at 100kmh 4.8-5l Conclusion as stated from honda the system works for highway orientation at its best From 80 to 120kmh. If highway is a priority one should look at CX 30 Skyactive X engine instead of Honda HR-V. That one is a very interesting engine if driven correctly.
@simonecorri32279 ай бұрын
In my own esperience, in long distance highway trips (4400km) al legal speed of 130 km/h consumption was 6,1 l/100km. Good, imho

Received my HR-V a week ago so spot on knowledge and experience for me will drive more in D now since that is also where the cruise control works - btw what is your opinion about cruise control? I use it a lot everywhere to keep speed as steady as possible but also cancel as soon as I see there is a regen option bc of traffic. Thank you.
@ecodriver17462 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm sure you'll enjoy you new HR-V, it's a great car. If you are talking about the "stupid" CC (not adapting to other traffic), remember that it's always better NOT ot brake (and regen) as to do so. Try to deactivate it soon enough to be able to coast before you (have to) hit the brakes. Coasting is always better as braking (even if you regen some energy), as you never get back what you had to invest beforehand. With adaptive CC the problem is that it only reacts to what the car directly in front of you is doing, therefore you rely on the other driver to drive cleverly. A good driver looks much further ahead and reacts way earlier than the best ACC can do. Lifting the foot off the gaspedal and keep the car coasting is (as explained before) much better than keeping the speed for longer and then stepping on the brakes. I use CC as well, but often deactivate it rather early in order to increase the distance to the car in front of me when I know the other car will brake hard soon, as the other driver doesn't look ahead enough. As a general rule, avoid braking as much as possible, even with a hybrid or EV.
