HONDA HSS1332 Snowblower/Snowthrower Auger Removal And Refinish (Part 1)

This is the first video of my pre-winter snowblower maintenance. I've had increasing amounts of trouble with snow clogging in auger and shoot during the past 2 winters, so it's time to try and remedy the issue. Please join me as I figure my way around the ins and outs of this process.

Great video sir. I realize it’s been 4 years. When I saw you remove the augers from the gearbox, in my mind, that metal shaft should have extended all the way out to the auger bearings but instead, they stopped short.

Nice detailed video, I have a similar machine here in the US but mine does not have the electric chute, onboard battery and auger protection system. Your machine's augers are at least 20% worn, this is due to the lack of side mounted skid shoes, if that issue is not addressed then over time the serrations on the augers will wear down along with the side of the auger housing. These augers are $200+ per side here in the US and in Canada I am sure they are worth a whole lot more, I'd advise to invest in some side mounted skid shoes to save them from any wear here on out.

I want to know what are the correct skid shoe part numbers. I've seen roller bearing shoes as a quick fix but I prefer a Honda part if any? Thanks for the tip.

XRavenHairSexGod the part number for heavy duty shoes from Honda is 04700-768-E110, unfortunately they are discontinued as Honda has switched to high density plastic ones for heavy duty applications. Another good option is to go with armorskid aftermarket skid shoes. They are slightly longer but do the job very well.

@@xravenhairsexgod I bought "Honda 2 Pack Genuine Snowblower Auger Skid Shoe 76153-V41-000" to put on mine. These are the side mounted skid shoes from the wheeled snowblowers. Not as heavy duty as the discontinued version. But they are reversible. They do not come with fasteners. $35.77 on Amazon.

Haha thanks! I definitely push myself beyond my comfort zone when I do things like this sometimes, but it's rewarding enough to keep me willing to do it :)

Great work. But for me, because it will just get all scuffed up again every season, I just leave it assembled and paint it with tremclad and apply with a brush.

I agree! Get a small piece of fine sand paper, go arounf with your hands, make it smooth as possible, use a spray red color, spray it on a Chinese plastic container and use a small brush and paint it. Problem solved!

Great video series on the removal, repair and instal. Thanks. I have a Yamaha blower that I will be doing the same thing on this spring. I bought new augers, bearings, etc for it as the guy who had the blower before me appears to have resurfaced his concrete driveway with the augers. I wonder if the wear on your augers has led to your concern about frequent snow build up? Is it working as new now that you have done all that work? Interestingly, the mechanics of your Honda auger / impeller system looks very similar to my Yamaha. I did pull the auger assembly out at one point and it comes out and goes in just like yours. Again, nice job.

Thanks so much! She's working great now and I haven't had any clogging issues since. My auger teeth are wearing and I may eventually get someone to fill them back out or will invest in a new set. All good for now though! Only thing I've done since is a new battery and rear tilt hydraulic. Appreciate your time to comment and I got a good laugh out of your cement resurfacing comment haha!
