This is how i renewed the rear brake pads on my in-laws 2017 Honda Jazz or Honda Fit in the US.
Check out my Honda Jazz playlist for other Jazz vids or check out my channel for Automotive How To Videos.
Hope this video is of some help and allows you to carry out the task yourself!

Great video. Just done this. Piston’s easily compressed, turning with a large screwdriver. The handbrake cable does restrict access a lot. There are brackets that will give some slack regarding handbrake cable but we’re seized on both sides of my car.

Nice well explained video. One thing I've found, is that the pads slip in very easily, in parallel with the disc, slipping in from behind as it were! One other point I'd make is that the piston cross needs to be aligned, to get over the raised location pin on the inner pad. Can lead to frustration and a fair bit of swearing otherwise! 🤣 Happy to see the use of copper grease, you'd never get the bolts out up here in Scotland, on an older vehicle, with the standard feature of rust!

Thanks for the positive comment and tips for other viewers 👍 I tend to use copper grease on most parts when reassembling, makes it easy for the next person, which is usually me! 🙄 Don’t forget to check out my playlists 😉

15:14 It is clear that the tool is actually not pushing. The thread inside the piston has a bigger step than your tool and it is winding faster leaving the tool slack. I don't know if other cars are different but I just did the breaks on a Jazz this morning and didn't need a special tool. I just used a small metal plate like a screwdriver and the piston went in. I clamped it with vice grips to give a handle to turn it easier.

do the pistons not just push back or have to be wound back? Confused here as I thought only German cars need pistons wound back.

Hint: when you are to push back te piston, open the purge valve before so to flush the old oil out that was inside the caliper, push back the piston then close the valve. Top off the oil in the reservoir after finshed.

I have just changed my rear pads on my 2012 Mark 2 Jazz: identical. I don't use copper grease: can interfere with ABS sensors and melts with heat . There are ceramic /silicone greases made specifically for brakes which are far better and do not melt.

Only thing I would point out is to not let the caliper hang by the brake lines! Support it with something (bungee cord, box of a suitable height, string, anything). Brake lines aren't designed to take that weight pulling on them in that way.

Thanks for the video. One short question, I see that when you returned the cylinder, the protective rubber of the cylinder got a little wrinkled. Is that a big problem??

Hope the vid helped 👍 Yes, definitely un-twist the rubber boot. I straightened mine out by just feeding in a small terminal screwdriver in between the boot and the piston to re-position it 😉 The rubber boot is there to prevent dirt/moisture ingress, so is important for the long term operation of the calliper. Regards Sandy.

I'm assuming the piston wind in tool comes with a few different piston head/slot patterns, but also in right hand & left hand thread versions. The Honda Jazz being right hand thread as shown in the video.

@gilberesrepairs
@gilberesrepairs Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the positive comment 👍 The grease can be seen to attract dirt and make the brakes bind up. I’ve never encountered this, but that doesn’t mean it can’t occur 😜

Are the left and right calipers threaded differently when it comes to re-winding hence there being the 2 opposite threaded tools? If so, which side goes clockwise and which goes counterclockwise?

Hi I was wondering if it’s a good idea to buy a Honda fit import in the uk my brother is a panel beater and says it’s a bad idea for parts and history of car what you think ??
@gilberesrepairs

Hello if you are concerned about parts, you could just buy a uk car. Are you considering buying one because of the low mileages and lack of rust?
@seanfox3222

I’ve been thinking of buying one for a while now and their is a Indian guy in my home town that has just got a load in imported from Japan and their models have more goody’s attached for the year they are compared to our English counterparts. Hybrid engine start button touch screen just think could cause more heartache than it’s worth!

@@seanfox3222 Yep, the jap cars come loaded with extras, they like to keep the best for themselves (jdm)😎 We had a Nissan Largo Highway Star many years ago, it had absolutely no rust and very low miles. There maybe issues with differences but you’ll probably only know when you come up against them. For instance a Mazda MX5 is easy to get parts for, but i think the jap one is a Eunos 🤔 and they have a slightly different shaped windscreen that’s not available in the uk. My advice is yolo, get it 😂😂
