I just finished the Mongolia Monkey Run riding a 49cc Skyteam ST50-8a. Very similar trails/tracks to this in parts. It's a real work out and the bikes hate soft sand and big rocks. It would have been a real blast with 125cc. Great video.

That's a great combination of bikes you got on those trails. I love both and am stoked to see how they compare to each other. Thanks for taking us along on your rides. :)

This was a super fun video to watch, thanks for sharing. It also just so happens I rode this same trail on my WR250R a few years back.

Just got my Monkey last month. Found a great bunch of trails here in northern Michigan and love the maps on OnX Offroad. I also found out the Monkey hates deep sand. I was running with full pressure in my tires and just couldn't control it. Had a couple good falls and found out why people wear supportive boots. I thought I wouldn't get the bike off me for a while. My foot was twisted around under that darn air box. I'm kinda glad to hear your comments on the sand also. It makes me feel a bit better. We were down on the BR Parkway just a couple months ago though in a car. It's a beautiful place to ride.

Jeremy should stand up on the bike to get over stuff like the rock ledge - it allows for better balance. When you sit you get jerked around too much which throws off your balance! Looks like fun though 👍🏼😁

ya he got bucked pretty good, he's a new rider (this was his 1st "difficult" trail).

The Kitaco skid plate will probably work if you extend the front bracket. It’s an easy fab. Simple “u” bracket that’s 1 inch longer. I use it with a hindle. .

Tell your buddy to stand up more often and he won't get bucked all over the place. lol

Great vid guys- Ive got a TW myself and have fooled around on that trail up near the campsites but can't imagine running that whole trail from the bottom on the bike- just too rocky to truely enjoy unless you love super technical. I'll stick to my FJ for that one and those mud puddles. Anyways kudos- great job conquering that trail on those bikes- especially the Monkey! enjoyed the ride

I find watching someone conquer rough terrain like this on a bike we all wonder "Will it make it?! " so much more intriguing vs someone on a full sized ADV bike cruising on through it effortlessly. You going where no man has gone before on a lil' yellow fellow makes for a much more exciting viewer experience. Look forward to watching your adventures every time and it makes our day. And makes me want to call out sick to go ride my Monkey too 🤧🐒🛵🤠

I think its almost a forgone conclusion if it will make it or not at this point (lol), makes all the "Can a Honda Monkey do ______" videos look silly. I think too many people dismissed it a just a toy when it came out.

@@UncleVoodoo Your contribution has proven that theory false! And just a kickstand spring wardrobe malfunction thus far? Outstanding to say the least. You got your riding britches I see. Very cool looking. How are you liking your selection thus far?

R Miller the pants are a little on the long side and I didn’t think of it at the time but the pants are heavy like the jacket so I was pulling them up all day. Klim makes suspenders for them...... so I’m waiting for those in the mail now😳

Sounds like it’s geared too tall for those trails. A lower gearing would allow you to run slower and maybe not pound the exhaust so much.
@UncleVoodoo2 жыл бұрын
It's already geared down, I'm prob going back to stock gearing today.

I dirt ride a Monkey and know how hard that was to do! Unlike most other bikes, you really have to work the bars all the time!
@coltonware56273 жыл бұрын
If I could make a suggestion, I really want to see you, on the Monkey tackling terrain like this.. I appreciate the helmet cam footage but I find it much more enjoyable to visualize you riding from a 3 person point of view. Again, this is simply just my opinion and I, too, understand that would be much harder to film.
@CyclingNeko3 жыл бұрын
As long as he bring friend that exclusively to record him, I think he can do it. Problem is, bringing friend to have some fun together can be different with a friend to record his journey. His filming friend need to have better bike for this kind of situation, better equipment, and must well prepared too. Which is, leading to more budget to spend. But, if he can do that, it will be amazing!

You should turn off the stabilization and mount the gopro to the bike for a about 30 seconds so your viewers see how crazy it is. From our point of view it looks smooth and easy :)
@UncleVoodoo4 жыл бұрын
I do need to do that once, im actually wearing a chest mounted gimbal and it makes everything look like butter. gopros also make everything appear flat and doesn't show steepness either.

When you're in the sand you can deair your tires. Instead of plowing sand you'll float over the top of it. Course you got to reair on pavement.

I thought that the engine is the same between the CT125 and the Monkey? No?
@UncleVoodoo Жыл бұрын
They have small differences, swapping between them isnt a bolt on affair. The transmission is the biggest difference.

@kennethwagnon17374 жыл бұрын
With the complaints of the smaller rims and tires would you suggest waiting for the Cub trail 125?
@UncleVoodoo4 жыл бұрын
yes and no. the CT125 will have a few advantages over the Monkey (wheel size, rack and intake) but it also has a couple of downsides where the Monkey will leave it for dead (auto clutch and low top speed). it will come down to the rider's needs as to which one would be better for the task at hand. while the wheel size advantage would've helped with the rocks here, the auto clutch would've led to having to push/drag/walk the bike in more situations (steep climbs and mud for example). clutch finesse is a very useful capability to have off road. plus the high 40s /low 50s top speed might limit whether id be willing to make the journey to reach a trail like this as well. its a double edged sword.
@findingneutral4 жыл бұрын
@@UncleVoodoo Thanks for pointing out these advantages/disadvantages re: CT125. I was seriously wanting/waiting to see if the CT125 would ever come to the USA to have some variety. Great food for thought.

R Miller I’m still curious about it myself. These are just my uninformed musings based upon what I can gather thus far. It’s pluses will surely outweigh the minuses depending what someone intends to do with it. I actually hope I’m wrong about the top speed.
@findingneutral4 жыл бұрын
@@UncleVoodoo Yeah. I've watched lots of Thai videos and did the km to mph conversion, but its looking like you are right thus far on the speed theory 🐌
@findingneutral4 жыл бұрын
I just rewatched 'Honda CT125 Standard Top Speed'. The average top speed for the most part on his GPS read 82-86ish KM = 50 to 52ish MPH? And my brain recalls something I read where it was said the CT125 was geared for more slower torquey riding and sacrificed some top end speed to do so. It will still be a very cool mini moto, but as you said the Monkey prevails as a better all arounder in that arena.
