Ever since I bought my Honda Monkey in spring 2022, i've like the idea of motorcycle camping, but i've never gotten around to trying it - until now. The Monkey is itty bitty and doesn't have a lot of room to carry gear, so this week i set out to see just how much gear i can carry and just how disastrous it will be should i decide to take my motorcycle camping in the wilderness.
Watch next: • Honda Monkey: Escaping...
Honda Monkey playlist: • Honda Monkey: From nov...
About me: I decided to jump on an opportunity to buy a school bus for $1000. After 2.5 years of building and a couple summers doing bus life, I sold the bus and began building a tiny house boat from scratch. My hope is that with a couple years of practice building under my belt, I can do a bit better of a job this time and build something that actually floats 🤞

A trial run is such a good idea 😊 You have 2 things on the rack, tie them separately to it with short cords & just use the bungees to stabilize it. Perhaps tie one of them on the fuel tank?

I once dropped my pack off the back of my snowmobile in the middle of Yellowstone. I had to backtrack 20 miles to find it. Yellowstone at sunset is amazing, Yellowstone in the dark as it gets colder and colder was not amazing. When I got to the exit gate the park ranger was nice and only gave me a warning for traveling in the park at night.

I had an old Triumph Tiger 650 back in the day. For saddlebags, I found a couple of olive drab daypacks at an Army/Navy surplus store. I just crisscrossed the shoulder harnesses over the rear wheel, worked like a champ. Looked nice and retro also.

Emma is this Tony I have watched you from the very beginning you never cease to amaze me with your hysterical antics I totally give you commend and credit for taking on your building from the bus to the boat I think you are hysterical and you don't even know you are being that way but you need to think positive in any endeavors that you do I happen to be a seasoned outdoorsman a few with the lack of actually going out a whole bunch you can go to Walmart and pick up a tent for like 20 bucks I highly suggest you put something underneath it to keep the moisture from collecting on the bottom of the tent you can also get one of those inflatable rafts that people use for swimming that would be inexpensive also so you have a little cushioning between the ground and your sleeping bag Danny comes to picking up a set of pots and pans commonly known as a mess kit K. F. S headlamp and a flashlight use the flashlight mostly and when you need to hands-free that's when you use the headlamp some type of water container if you going to go on your bike I would suggest the water bladder you can also use it anywhere else you go not just camping all of this at Walmart will probably cost you under a hundred bucks unfortunately we are not near each other I would be enjoyable going camping with you and showing you the ropes I totally enjoyed all of your videos I've noticed your hair grows extremely fast I think you should let it grow real long you would look intense what is extremely long hair you're in my heart and in my mind may God bless you take care of yourself have a good day great evening and pleasant dreams I will see you in the next video

Home Depot HDX milk crate, fasten it to your rack with u-bolts, I’d place the smaller items such as the hammock in the bottom because the sleeping bag strapped down atop would hold everything else in the basket.

You have 18k views right now. Pretty much killing it. If you want to continue down this path I’d start contacting some vendors and get some sponsorships for parts. T. rex racing makes some amazing parts for the monkey and there is a ton of great motocamping gear out there. You can probably upgrade that monkey for next to nothing. Motocamping content is definitely popular and I think you can kill it! And don’t doubt the little monkey and say it’s not a long distance adventure bike. Anything is an adventure bike, all you have to do is start the adventure. I’d totally be your motorcycle friend if I wasn’t on the other side of the country! Keep it up!

Bin your Bungees and get Rok Straps instead. They are much much better ( although expensive). And if you do this use them so that they are parallel to each other and not in a X pattern like you had with your Bungees. Also there are racks available that fit on the front of the Bike which go over the headlight. This would give you extra carrying capacity. Love seeing you out on the Monkey. Carry on.😊

Sleeping bags have two temperature ratings. One is the survival rating, which is what most companies use to advertise and the other is the comfort rating. The next time you go to buy a new sleeping bag be sure to check out that comfort rating.

Try to put everything in a big backpack and when you climb on your bike loose a lil bit the straps allow the weight to rest on the seat and rack. That way you control the backpack and you don't getting tired.

Nice little break for houseboat building. It might be a little janky looking, but I've seen a lot of people over in the Philippines strap milk crates on the back of their motorbikes. Helps hold things together so they don't squeeze out around straps. At least they did this when they didn't have three other people perched up on the bike going down the road. lol

Weather/ temperatures has more to do with camping needs than anything else. I have been camping 66 of my 78 years. I have camped with a blanket, peanut and jelly sandwich, and Kool-Aid to a 32' fifth wheel and they all work for a certain season of life. In our thirties we pulled a pop up tent designed for motorcycles. I have had a basket on the front and saddle bags, or milk crate on a rear rack. (Always carry some nylon rope, with or without a tent.)

Bungee bad, tie down strap good. Even rope is better than stretchies. Hammock with only a sleeping bag = cold butt syndrome. Hammock with underquilt = warm and comfy. No tarp over the hammock... risky. Honestly you'd be better off with a cheap foam pad on the ground until you get hammock camping sorted out. Many learning experiences ahead! :D

a slightly larger Luggage Rack at the back of the bike. both in width and length. possibly a small sissy bar that provides support for the luggage. I myself had a luggage rack on my motorcycle that was too small. mounted a black painted aluminum sheet 26 cm long approx. 10 inches. 30cm wide about 12 inches. and drilled holes along the edges so that the hooks could be attached to the luggage staps

Love the video. You should look up the ride the twight light. That ride is smaller cc. You can’t be more than 100lbs. You can put cam, exhaust, air filter, and tune and prob hit highway speeds. For my grom I put a 13t sprocket and that has helped as well. I’m 180lbs and can hit 60 pretty easily.

I totally admire your gumption in doing this little moto-camping adventure. I am an avid camper and motorcyclist, with three very capable on-road, off-road bikes, but have never combined the two hobbies. So, yeah, thanks for the inspiration. REI is a great resource for all outdoor activities. I bought a Sea To Summit inflatable pillow from them that is more comfortable than my home pillows.
