I passed my full A license test last year I went for used 2015/2016 Honda NC750X with manual gearbox instead of buying CB500X. I don't regret my decision and I even feel grateful I have 750 cc engine after I ridden once 500. I think it is excellent "starter bike". I started with having over 2 years of experience of daily riding 125 and I didn't feel overwhelmed. I use my bike daily in absolutely every weather and it never let me down ☺ Here are my top things I love about this bike: 1. Fantastic engine with fantastic low and mid range torque 2. Front storage - all my waterproofs , first aid and disc lock live in there. A small shoppings from LIDL will fit in there as well.... 3. Fuel economy - I get avg 65-70 mpg living in mountainous area where other bikes drink litres of fuel 4. Low center of gravity and handling - I already forgot this bike is over 220 kg wet... 5. Riding Comfort and seat high- I leave for short ride and I end up with empty petrol tank with nearly 200 miles covered. I feel very comfortable as 5' 11" guy sitting on this bike. 6. Price - I bought mine NC for 3500 grand with 26 k miles on it. It's very very affordable price for your 27 years old rider like me. I have no PCP or credit on the bike which is important nowadays 7. Cheap to insure - it's low insurance (g. 11) group (for 750 cc) so my first "big bike insurance" doesn't cost me fortune I have only one thing that I could say against NC 750 and it is the power output for A2 license holders (requires restriction) . It has got 40-43 kw net power which makes it "just" no compatible bike for A2 , but I didn't care as I'm full A license holder. In this case , it's probably better better to get CB500 and then upgrade to NC.

its just perfect. I own a DCT model, after 1 year and almost 22000km I'm completely satisfied with it and don't see myself thinking of changing sometime soon. Not a racing bike but does all I need brilliantly, so well balanced, in the daily commute as for the long rides.

Yes this is the beginner bike with excellence, although it can be one bike forever too. It is so versatile that once you get use to it it will be hard to switch to another bike unless keep it and add another different bike. If you want the new version 2021 then get it with DCT, the manual gear box is frustrating small geared 1 to 3 to be used on Manual but still fine. DCT is so much easy when you are stuck in the slow traffic with a lot of stop and go, I love it. The front storage is addictive. The front brake and the rear brake are linked, so when you push the foot brake, the bike will apply the brake to the front and the back. it is great. Front brake can be operated alone with hand. There is plenty of power low end. I use to take off on third gear without noticing in the traffic light. The throttle is smooth no jerk, like power On Off, you know what i mean? When you are on the first or second gear and when you put a bit of throttle the NC will move smoothly even without DCT . Great engine from Honda. You want to make half turn is an easy task with the NC with the huge turn angle, almost like a bicycle. you want to move at 4kmh no problem it remain in balance. Oups you dropped the bike, no worries you will be able to lift it by yourself. (if empty, no bags...) Maintenance, apparently is also easy, although i let it for the professionals. 2Up no problem. Consumption is so good, when I rode it first time I thought the fuel gauge was broken. Crazy! Parking and thief's. Given that the bike is not that sexy attractive bike, no worries, just need good precaution. You want to race with the cars? no one can beat you at 0-50 kmh or 0-100 kmh unless an serious expensive sport car. You want to show off for Girls :) , Girls do not care about bikes in 2021 🤣. You want a race bike, then thank-you for reading till this point .🤗

Great video, thank you for sharing. I haven't ridden a motorbike for nearly fifty years, so a new rider in reality. I bought my black 2020 nc750x dct in June 2023 (two months ago) to commute to work, roughly 35 miles a day on beautiful coastal roads in North Wales. I did find it heavy to move at first and I struggled with the main stand, but have got used to it now. We have had heavy storms and high winds this summer and I have been nervous going out some days, but the bike always handles like a dream. The dct is very responsive and seems intelligent, knowing what gear I prefer to be in. With it's high riding position I feel confident with other road users. It's so economical to run and looks really cool. I could go on and on in excruciating detail but will spare you. Just to say I am so so happy with my bike. I agree with other comments. For me, the perfect bike!

It's definitely the swiss army knife of bikes.. Does everything. A city commuter, or a long distance tourer with the top box and panniers, or even an adventure bike. Not a lot of bikes can claim this amount of variety. Everyone raves about the BMW GS or Triumph Tigers, but this little Honda in my opinion blows them away for the chameleon that it is.

Hi Nick! Great video and commentary. I’m looking at the Honda NC750X as my next bike. Currently own a Honda CTX700DCT as my first bike (discontinued). What I like about Honda is as you have described, smooth engine, weight distribution, cost, optional DCT. I would also add riding modes. I’m upgrading because of the newest technology on the NC. Better suspension, additional ride modes, upgraded engine and lower frame. This bike will take me from smooth highways to the occasional goat trail (potholes, dirt, some gravel). My criticism is the screen is not TFF. We live in a world of Bluetooth connectivity so Honda missed this critical feature - think Goldwing.

Got to agree and commend the review to the house :) It a very good all round bike and It annoys the hell out of me when it pigeoned holed as a commutator bike and nothing else. The reason I bought the bike was the relaxed riding it offers and the fact the engine does not need to be revived to death and from what reviews there has been, the latest iteration is even better.

My first bike was and still is a NC750S with DCT. Easiest bike ever. I did a couple of tours through the French alps and it was easy-peasy to ride. All of your reasons are legitimately good reasons. The only downside is the weight but as you said, it's center of gravity is so low, you barely feel it. The only time I felt it was when I dropped it after some jackass reversed his car into me by accident. ;-) there was no way I could hold her up past a certain point... i've done 60.000 km so far. Definitely not going to sell her any time soon

I testrode this today. I encourage anyone to go and do the same. The only downsides i could find is that the legs get a little bit crouched up if you are a taller fella and it doesn’t have cruise control. Shifts on the dct are seemless and there is absolutely no powershortage in this bike. If you load it up with passenger or luggage it might be a little bit too weak though but for a solo rider absolutely no issue. I could fit my helmet in the front trunk and i tested a -19. The trunk i larger on the newest model. Coming from a Triumph tiger 1200.

As you pointed out, the balance on these bikes is something special, on any other bike, your feet would be going down a lot sooner, it just seems to balance itself, im assuming its the low centre of gravity, although i had another bike which had the petrol tank underneath the seat, but wasn't as steady as the nc
@NickandJodie3 жыл бұрын
Yes agreed, as well with the fuel tank being under the seat with the nc the engine is slanted forward too, helping with that low centre of gravity

I'm interested in trying one. I own an Africa Twin 1000, which is an awesome bike, but sometimes i struggle a bit due to the weight and the seat height. AT has almost double the power of the NC, but in reality i almost never use it to full extent. Having tried the DCT on the new AT, i'm looking forward to try it on the NC, as i think it contributes to the engine power delivery.
@NickandJodie3 жыл бұрын

Reading trough the comments, it appears to be the overall opinion that a beginner bike should be smaller... I will buy my first bike soon, as a bloody beginner (started without previous experience directly with the A license...) and have a hard decision, obviously: should I buy a smaller bike, still priced around 4-5k... Or start with a complete bike that I can use for the next ten years, like the nc750x, which costs 6,5k (2021, used, up to 10k km)!? I dont want to prove something, I dont feel like speeding or doing twisties with friends etc. ... I just want to have a quality bike which takes me from home to new places, or to the city. Whats the problem with bigger bikes for beginners? I dont want to spend the money twice... Ofc I prefer to spend more money in exchange for my life, so... But on the other hand, a bigger bike like this is steady and more competitive (able to dodge a fast car coming from behind) for highways (I must deal with highways here and there... in sweden its limited 110km/h), right? I dont know... I must do the test rides, maybe I will feel whats right 😅 I would go for the non DCT version, because I learned to do it manually and I want to keep and deepen this knowledge 😊. My school-bike had 80hp - why should I change to something with 20-30hp (suggestion of my grandfather...). I am 26 btw.

I have an NC750S and a CBR500R. Fuel economy is roughly the same (Honda notes exactly the same figure for both). The 500 engine is slightly better around 30mph, the 750 slightly better at 60mph+. Honda's 500 bikes do tend to have a bigger fuel tank than the NC. You could easily cover 200 miles on either of them before refueling. In terms of power, the 500 bikes peak much higher in the rev range, so you'd be using more fuel in the 500s to get that power.

It would be yes, my brother is a similar height and no issues. You can also buy adjustable foot pegs from swmotech. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching

Try the 2021 model, ride height is lower.

I just can't see this being better handling than a Versys 650.
@NickandJodie3 жыл бұрын
The nc750x has a much lower centre of gravity than the versys, try both then make an accurate decision 😀

Why, oh why, oh, oh why... do people keep referring to the Honda NC's as a "beginner" bike. I've never yet met a beginner rider on one. Most of the riders I've come across are very experienced and chose the Honda because, ultimately, it makes perfect sense to own one compared to the pointless sports bikes and overweight adventure bikes. I can only assume it's because the Honda doesn't quite fit into any of the "agreed" categories of bikes so people assume it's for beginners who will grow up and find a "proper" bike. Ridiculous. Rant over.

Did you watch till the end? Its a bike for life, I'm inviting new riders to this secret world of owning the best motorcycle around, and the key to that door is using the beginner bike tactic
@CosmikDebriis3 жыл бұрын
@@NickandJodie But that is my problem, and I should add it's not just you. It's in the title "Beginner". To me this completely undersells the bike before you watch the video. So not a complaint about the video, just the title.

I shouldn't have to get an automatic and live overseas to get a Honda that isn't red. Come on Honda

I really don´t understand this beginner bike nonsense. Clearly if you are into racing - this is the wrong bike. For me it is the best allaround in every aspect I need.

From the points you just mentioned this makes it a perfect first big bike

It is not a beginner bike. Period.
@NickandJodie3 жыл бұрын
HI, thanks for your comment. Sorry if I made the nc750x sound less superior in this video but I use the word beginner very loosely, and of course this is my opinion too. Here in the UK riders undertake an extensive training course with 3 tests to get through, before they are aloud to ride a big bike, so only take my choice of word with a pinch of salt, riders generally know what to expect when buying there first big bike. Ride safe buddy.
