Final drive oil replacement at 20k miles in 5k interval. Just checked my records and I do this every 5k miles not 10k miles...boy it was pretty dirty for being only 5k miles.

Very helpful videos -- thanks. Just crossed 25K miles, catching up on some maintenance before putting the scoot up for the cold Illinois winter.

Hi DaBinChe. Great video, thanks for sharing on KZbin. But I have a question for you. On service manual says that the oil for the final reduction is the SAE 10W30 and you use a 75W140. Do you have any problems using this oil? 'Cause it's totally different from the manual's recommendation. Here in Brazil I used the same oil from the engine, as the Honda said to use it and it's ok so far. Thanks again for the video.

Rogério Takahashi 10w-30 is what it also says in the US manual as well but I prefer gear oil when there are gears. As for viscosity a 10w-30 motor oil is about the same as a 75w-80 gear oil. What gear oil has are additives meant for gears while motor oil lacks those additives. Honda uses thinner oil to make it more efficient less resistance, to save fuel which reduces emissions

DaBinChe Hi, thanks for the answer. I'll try the gear oil when I change my motor oil again. Thanks again. :)

Eu recomendo o 80W90 próprio para transmissão. Esse do motor é mais uma picaretagem da Honda....

I have a Honda Lead SCV100, and apart from the kickstart these videos are almost entirely relevant to that model as well. Thanks heaps mate!

Good video. I sometimes pour some clean oil to wash out the gears inside a bit. Let it drain, then refil. Definitely dirty oil came out. I'll be changing mine every 5K. I like the idea of synthetic oil but 140 is so much off the recommended 10w30 engine oil. :) If they sold 80w90 in synth, that's what I'd use. So far I've used 80w90 mineral gear oil. Btw, the second time I installed the original drain plug washer, it leaked so I had to re-do the whole thing with a new washer which sealed it.

great video, thanks, but please let me share my experience with you: you need to be very careful and tighten the screws very softly when you put them back - first just tighten them by hand and then just tighten them very softly with a torque (maybe with only 5-8Nm), because I tried to tighten them with 20 Nm (like the engine oil screws) and I killed the thread and needed to screw a new thread... it was really frightening and not a cheap gear oil change.... :(:( (I won'T never understand why Honda didn't included a torque value for tightening this screw when in the user manual I see torque Nm-s to all the other screws... )

tankapeti Owners manual won't say torque value but Service manual will. Once you get enough experience you won't need a torque wrench. But very important about using torque settings for dry vs. oily threads. You can strip the threads if you use dry value on oil threads.

The torque for the drain and fill bolts for the gear oil are 13 N·m (1.3 kgf·m, 10 lbf·ft)

+anas rakhda sounds to me like you stripped the threads. Need to fix that, one way is helicoil. This is why it is best to use new sealing washers as Honda recommends. When it gets tight the washer crushes down a little telling you it is enough.

Can I use API GL-4 SAE 90 gear oil or should I only use the same engine oil also as gear oil in Transmission in Honda gearless scooter?
@DaBinChe6 жыл бұрын
No engine oil, you'll want to use gear oil 75w-90 or something like that

Lloydee Banks That's relative to how much it is ridden. Folks that only ride a few thousand miles a year won't need to do it as often but folks like me that rides a lot of miles a year need to do it more often. Anyways it is better to go by mileage then time.

we could use air pump to push all the old oil out!
@DaBinChe9 жыл бұрын
+Bharat Kumar Gupta it is not gonna push out much, better to do it after riding for half hour to warm eveything up so oil flows easy
