This video was a huge help! Your tip about not removing the bracket from the door was a big time-saver. Replaced the center roller in about 20 min - and that was with me running around finding tools and creating a pile of bricks to hoist the door up. Thanks again!

great video, my son and I changed both on his van this morning, the tips in your video helped a lot. had them both done in about an hour and a half.

Just finished in under 30 minutes. Takes a serious attitude to pull back the cable on the re-assembly process, but uses the shortest route to save a LOT of time screwing with access panels and internal cable drives.The best video once again.

Nice shortcut...it's nice when they engineer in a removable pin vs. a pressed in pin you can't change. Mrs "O" tells it like it is..."Ever since you didn't do nothing it's still broke"...you guys are perfect for each other & you can tell. Nice video & look forward to seeing you both even for a short time b/c it's refreshing to see!

If GM built that thing, they'd have pressed it in ... and made that side body panel all one piece, so you'd have to remove the roof & side glass ...
@haywardsautomotive61568 жыл бұрын
Actually the GMs are pretty easy and the newer ones went away from the sliding door. They all have their issues, some more than others. Engineers design cars and mechanics reverse engineer them to fix them. I am thankful for engineering design flaws & the new technology will keep us busy for years to come :-) ...and then there's Dorman which has them all beat HAHA

Thanks for all your awesome video. Just fixed my passenger sliding door Odyssey 2006 just like you described but I had to take 2 , 12mm bolts off hinge. Need to mark hinge with black marker to make sure it is aligned properly. Also, it might be easier to bend one side of metal leaf on cable holder so that you can insert back cable easier. Then bend back to secure cable. I found that after I replaced roller, the car would make the alarm door sound whenever I put car in drive, even though the sliding door was closed securely. I found that I needed to reset door by pulling fuse 7 under the driver's side foot well for 10 seconds and then putting it back in. This fuse is labelled BACK UP in owner's manual. This got rid of the door alarm noise and also the sliding door warning yellow light on the dash shut off.

Another great SMA video. I did both of mine on my 08 Touring last year but I used a sharpie to mark the bracket location and just unbolted it from the door. Other than that I did the same way you did. I think it takes the same amount of time either way. No way I'd pull the quarter trim panel for that. One correction for you, Eric. Actually, there are FOUR switches in that rear latch assembly. The full latch, half latch, ratchet, and base position switches are all in that assembly. The most common failure is actually the base position switch. A failed or dirty base position switch can even cause the door to not work at all and can cause a parasitic drain on the battery overnight. Customer complaint: Door doesn't work and battery is dead after a day or two = base position switch problem. Many times the switches are fine but the latch just needs to be cleaned and re-lubed. Obviously, in your setting, Eric where time is money, it's best to replace it with a new one but for the DIY'er you can often clean them up, make sure the cams are moving and activating the switches normally, and then put it back in. By the way, you can see all these switches activate in your scan tool. (I know because I just picked up an Autel MaxiDAS DS708 on craigslist for a steal of $225 - May 2016 update. YAY!) and played around with the doors and switches in the scan tool. Another common failure in these doors is the release actuator, sometimes called the unlatching motor. This is a little black gear box right in the lower center of the door when you pull the panel. When these start to go, the door will start to open/close and then immediately stop or it will open/close and make a popping noise. They are easy to replace (three easy screws and a small spring) and, for the DIY'er can be disassembled, cleaned and lubed, and reinstalled. There's a little metal pin in the clutch that gets a bit sticky. If you're in there and you've dropped the money for that rear latch assembly I'd also replace that release actuator. It's not very expensive to just replace it if you don't want to mess with disassembling it and cleaning it. It will fail. On my Ody, I've replaced the rear rollers and cleaned/lubed the unlatching motors. I haven't had any rear latch problems (yet.)

Great video, especially with the Mrs. adding a little beauty to the screen. Seriously I plan to do the same on my Odyssey and this video is great and very helpful for the DIyourselfer, like me. The right side sliding door hops and skips but still works, but sounds like it has a hernia as it moves, but the odyssey has 190k miles. Its due, and I might do same hinge replacement on both sliding doors. Other day when the car was parked on a slight incline up at the mall it freaked the wife out because the door would move a few inches and stops, could not go up the very small incline. Having my observant hat on, I moved the car to be on the incline down, and sure enough the door slid closed easily. So it is time to do what you did in this video. Will save a lot from dealer price. Thank you, thank you

Quick tip on E clips and the like. Take a piece of masking tape and stick it over the clip/pin so you cover the area that the clip has to travel to come off. Now use a pick or screwdriver to poke through the tape and remove the clip. The tape will catch the clip as it comes free so you don't have to play fetch.

I like using a stock Jeep (YJ, TJ, XJ, ZJ) jack for doing door pins. It is like a bottle jack, but it uses gears or something instead of a pump, so you rotate it to go up and down. It gives alot more precision when lining up the pin.

While my door was jacked up and supported, it literally fell out onto the ground. The other two rollers came out of their tracks. It was one heck of a mess. I had to have four people help me get everything put back together. I have no idea why this happened. And, no matter how hard we pulled on the cable, we could not get it to stretch enough to get it back into the roller assembly. So now I have a manual door. Which is probably better anyhow.
