I love my Honda! Have my second one now, a 40 HP which I bought last year along with my new boat. My previous was a Honda 30 HP. Had it for 12 years and fished almost every week with it. Never had any issues with it! Always started at first attempt, summer and winter. That thing was just indestructible. So yeah, very obvious my new motor had to be a Honda again. I just love em!

@Brakkeleer Thuis I have a 15hp Honda on a 13ft , want to buy a 30hp but unfortunately here in Argentina the line up goes from 20hp to 60hp nothing in between, 2007 was the last 30hp imported so I can get one used. What do you think ? I go for a 14 year old used 30hp or just I quit my aspirations and be sure with a brand new 20hp ? Thanks !

I bought my Honda 25 hp in 1999 brand new. I asked the dealer if I should buy a Mercury or Honda. He said Honda and I asked him to explain why. All he said was because it's a Honda.He said after my 10 hour service I will never see him again. He was right I have never had to take my boat to the dealer for any reason. I do all the maintenance regularly myself and the only thing that has gone wrong was I had to replace the dashpot and the gear wheel in the shifter box wore out from trolling so much. Putting it in neutral and in gear probably thousands of times while stopping to reel in fish. Don't know how many hours it has but it always starts up and still runs like it is new. All I can say it is one of the best purchases I have ever made in my life.Im glad I took the salesman's advice and bought it.

I'm buying a 2019 BF 60 New in crate. Can't wait. My last Honda was a BF 130. Great engine so quiet I always tapped that key and got the sound. So quiet. I'm 61, I found a great deal on that BF 60 motor I will never need another. Replacing a 2914 60 Merc 4 stroke with 461 hrs. But I trust Hondas whether a mower or outboard. So jazzed you had trouble free use for that many years.

Owned a 2001 BF130 for over 20 years. I can't even guess how many hours. Probably well over 3000. It still ran like new when I sold the boat. It was the most reliable piece of machinery I've ever seen. Remember that all the other manufacturers were struggling with their fuel injection systems at the time. That 130 started first try every time.

Thanks for the review, I have had my Honda 90hp for 16 years it is still going as good as the day I brought it. I do sea water fishing so it is in and out of salt water all the time, I give it a good flush after use with fresh water, then spray the engine with RP7 or WD40 to keep the salts at bay, I always use premium grade petrol, 98 Octane which is A$1.65a litre or A$7.35 imperial gallon. Besides its 100hr servicing I have never had a spanner on the engine except to change plugs and replace impeller, It starts first time every time after priming, my only complaint is the paint job on the top of the cowling has started to peel off, which I did strip and sand off then had it repainted at the crash repairs. Almost forgot I have done 9300klm with 840hrs on the engine clock. The only motor I would use is a Honda.

I am about to replace my 2003 Honda 50 for a new 60, only because the steering has become dangerously heavy. The top bearing has pretty much seized and the only way to replace involves removing the powerhead. Have tried all the obvious fixes including heating the steering tube to no avail. The motor has been ultra reliable, basic maintenance only, nothing has ever failed in service. Super economical as well. My only doubt with buying another Honda is whether the company will outlast the motor. They seem to be resting on their laurels both in cars and outboards.

Thnks for reply and best regards and fishing, but one last question, have you changed it,s timing belt sometimes?? I have not and hopefully it last the engines life.
@TheFishingEducator6 жыл бұрын
I have not changed the timing belt...you might want to keep an eye on it especially if you keep the engine outside...I keep mine in a garage and it helps.

Great Videos and reviews. I am looking for 40 to 50 hp motor here in germany and found this video. Now i am using a Honda 25bf on my 16ft Sylvan. I am doing a lot of trolling for Walleye and Muskie. So what is the minimum speed of this 40ps Honda without a trolling plate. There are no trolling plates available on the european market.
@TheFishingEducator4 жыл бұрын
I can troll at about 2.0MPH with down riggers in the water...I did lower my idle a bit to achieve these slower speeds. Anything slower and I use my electric trolling motor.
@showtime62345 жыл бұрын
Hey my honda does pee out alot of water? Like a full on stream like some motors is that normal? Like on idle it just trickles? Is that normal?
@basswacker69275 жыл бұрын
James Bussey It should pee strong at idle also.Try pulling the pee hose off the brass fitting and stick a paperclip in the hole and clean it out.The water should have a good stream out of this hole if it is clear.also put the wire in the pee hole on the outside of the motor
@TheFishingEducator5 жыл бұрын
It should pee well when it idles too.

@@TheFishingEducator I have the same motor on the boat I just got. I'm about to flush it out in a barrel of water with vinegar and maybe some sea salt stuff for flushing it. Mine does not have a temp gauge just a light and alarm if it overheats it will cut out like a safety thing so I'm wondering as I'm not too much a mechanic at all, will it be easy to set up a temp sensor gauge? And does yours have same as mine.,an alarm for temp and one for oil with 2 lights near the throttle, or do you have a temperature sensor gauge as well? Great post, video, I'm subscribed 👍

@@TheFishingEducator How are you tracking miles and hours if you don't have gauges or an hour meter. Not sure why your video popped up but I clicked because no one states boat usage in miles. (Hours) I fully expect a well maintained Outboard to last 20+ years for a rec user. Honestly the small outboards 75hp and below last a long time. (2 stroke or 4 stroke) Honda makes a good product but you would have gotten the same results out of most outboards available at that time. I have an inboard 1980 Volvo diesel that runs great and a 1974 Detroit that won't die. I would bet that every coastal Craigslist has 1990's outboard that are still in good shape. I see Suzuki's and Yamaha in my area with 8000 hours. You have a lot of years of service left. A lot of Honda's had a timing belt you may want to see if yours does it should be changed. Congrats and enjoy it
