My 2011 PCX 125 is probably the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. So far the only difficult thing I have had to do to maintain it is change the tires, and I had to buy a few tools to work on it but, that is a bit more of an investment than a real cost of maintaining the bike. I have a neighbor who has a Honda Helix from the mid 80s and he told me he has never had to do an engine rebuild or anything, so Honda is doing something right making these things.

I,m long term biker so still have 2 quick bikes but I got a vespa gts300 which Is now my fave bike. Fancied pcx for a few years, finally got one new in April . Same as yours, I was wary it would be a bit too slow but it,s lively enough for legal rides! Brakes are superb,as good as zx6 I used to have! Also I am 6ft 4 but it's ok position. Vespa is more spacious and ride quality is better. But its twice the price and pcx is teetotal with fuel. 1900mile on it now mainly for pleasure in the hills 😀

That's interesting that you have a Vespa 300 and find it more comfortable than the pcx. As I've been riding a primavera 125 since 2016, did 32000 miles on it. Recently got an SH125i and find it more comfortable than the Vespa primavera, granted it has 11 inch wheels, the SH has 16 inch wheels. The Vespa is more comfortable than a Honda SFX 50 I still own. The SH did take some getting used to, as it rides high compared to the primavera. One last thing, my bike came from the dealers with over inflated tyres, I adjusted to the hand book, after the service had to let some air out again, makes for a very hard ride having too much air in the tyres.

I have a full bike licence and commute daily on a 125,I also have a bigger bike but would always choose the 125 for commuting. Unless you do many miles on motorways or 60mph plus roads anything more than a 125 is a waste, plus also the extra running costs and the attractiveness of bigger bikes to thieves is a headache for most riders. I'm currently running an 18 plate Grom with nearly 18k miles on it and it's never been to a dealer since the day I brought it. Oil changes,valve adjustments you name it have been done by myself. I change the oil every 3 months which works out around a 1k miles but this is 1k miles of hard commuting, heavy traffic,lots of clutch work so it's tiny 900ml of oil gets a hard time. I'm currently considering a PCX as my next workhorse. Great reviews by yourself from a normal guy and not a motorcycle road tester who only spends a few hours on a bike.
@jrewillis3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I agree - commuting on the PCX is a doddle! My review is honest there is very little that is bad with the PCX - for the money I don’t think you can get better. HI, I am an American in Tokyo with a 4 year old PCX 125 with 36,000 km and it is still going strong. I also like the practicality of the little scooter in the congested streets of Tokyo. I have a 38 liter box added to it which allows me to get almost anything I need from shops. I suggest if you want to upgrade to a larger scooter that you look into the 150 cc version PCX or 250 cc Honda Forza.
@jrewillis4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. They don’t do the 150 PCX here and the 300 Forza is our model. Anything above a 125 requires a full 2 test license - which I’m working on. Bit lockdown have caused Delays with tests etc. Thanks for commenting. Stay safe.
@4123koji4 жыл бұрын
If the laws in the UK are similar to those in Japan, I would recommend looking into a Silverwing 400 or 600 if you can find one cheap. Though they have discontinued this bike it is a dream to ride, very quiet and vibration free at speeds of over 80 mph which you could do for hours without fatigue. I have a Silverwing 400 which I use for long distance travel and have had a 600 which is great but requires more juice to run. 400 cc is more than enough to move me and wife (130 kg total) about quickly enough.
@4123koji4 жыл бұрын

Thanks for the reply. I live in the Huddersfield area and am just assessing the practicalities of going down to one car and using a scooter to commute. Yes the last 6 weeks have been cold! Guess you'd need to be extra careful in these conditions.
@jrewillis3 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure. We have 2 cars in our household and my intention was originally to move to one car. But honestly when it’s bad weather it just isn’t worth the risk. The fuel savings the rest of the year make it sensible to continue running a bike. And for me it’s more the time savings. My commute is so much quicker on a bike. For cold weather riding I highly recommend bar muffs and decent gloves. Don’t bother with heated grips. They can drain your battery if you forget to turn them off or the timer fails on them. Gloves work always and bar muffs don’t really cost anywhere near as much and can be moved from bike to bike. Ride safe mate!

Hi great videos, I'm 59 and doing my CBT and I've been looking at the PCX, but a lot of people are saying to me that motorcycling is dangerous!
@jrewillis3 жыл бұрын
Well life is dangerous. Motorcycles statistically increase risk. Often outside your control. I got rear ended when waiting at traffic lights end of May. Apparently didn’t see me (bright green bike, fluorescent jacket, red helmet) - so often it isn’t you it’s “them” Don’t be put off - just get your CBT and I’d personally have some actual lessons and pass your MOD1 and 2 - the lessons teach you much more than just a CBT - I personally feel far safer riding since having further training than just my CBT.

Ok John had my PCX for enough time to evaluate it. Added as you did a taller screen and top box pulse a little adjustable wind deflector on the screen only £13 which is great . It was not a new bike with 3100 on the clock with a full service history £2100 Problems ? one minor there is a rattle from the front fairing so I need to strip it and find the problem. Seat step is a tad to far forward but I may splash out on a Thailand one they have some fantastic custom saddles Bigger bike ? not sure I’ve a full licence so I hired a Suzuki GS 650 to see what modern bikes are like . Yup it’s quite quick and plenty of power but the PCX is more comfortable and to be honest you hit 70 and I got fed up with the wind buffeting. If I only had a 10-15 mile commute specially mostly in built up areas the PCX would be a better choice for me. That said I have done a 200mile camping outing on it and it was really relaxed just pottering at a steady 50. My conclusion it’s a great little machine and I’m not surprised globally one of the most popular.

Thanks for your well-commented review, I can just confirm all your positive points on this wonderful bike - I am now riding the 2018/2020 version (as yours) which is a real improvement from the previous version (until 2017) - when you spoke about upgrading inside the 125cc range, I consider the same point but just see that the weight/bhp ratio is not really improving when going to a Forza 125 or X-max 125 ! Compared with all the nice & easy PCX features, incl limited costs, I think I will keep my PCX ! The only regret is for me the poor seat comfort on bumpy roads, and I am looking for any solution from accessory shopping on the net, any idea ? Regards,

Hi John, I really like your video on the PCX. I’ve read through quite a few of the comments and your replies. The reason I ask is that in order to get to the valves on a PCX you have to remove all the plastic panels.... which seems really, really complicated...

Check then other replies I’ve given you about this Ric. Thanks for watching.

PCX is super reliable, only time we had them come through the shop was just for an oil and filter change or when they let them sit for too long and the battery died (not the bike's fault). Why stick with the 125-size if you want to upgrade vs go up a big bigger in displacement? If there are any laws or anything I’m not familiar with please explain, I’m from Canada so things are probably different here.
@jrewillis2 жыл бұрын
If you want to ride a bigger bike in the UK It requires a theory test and 2 further tests plus more training to pass those 2 tests. Usually costs between £600-1000 depending on the level of the rider. For many - keeping a 125 is really a cheap way of getting about. I do miss how easy it is to manoeuvre the PCX - but the power of my 650 is another level!

Hi John. Thanks for all your really helpful videos. I am currently considering buying a Honda PCX and your vlog has given me some great insights. The only other possible candidate is a Yamaha NMAx. I understand the PCX only has ABS on the front as the rear is a drum brake. When you were out and about on your PCX (I appreciate that your videos are 2-3 years old by now and you no longer own the PCX and have joined the group of "proper" motorcyclists), did you experience any problems with the rear brake? The Yamaha NMax has ABS front and back, but is not as practical as the PCX, so I am unsure which way to go from here. Anyway, keep up the good work!
@jrewillis Жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the reply. No issues whatsoever. The rear brake does very little anyway. So I'd still recommend the PCX. The NMAX for me offers no real difference. The new PCX has even better fuel economy (how?!) I'd fully recommend one! One of my other subscribers bought a brand new PCX last year and already has 6500 miles on it. It looks brand new still!

To be honest they did mine at the 600 mile service and they were already fine. It costs a lot in time as you have to remove a lot of panels to check them. Most people do it once to ensure they are done then likely don’t bother again. The engines are pretty tough anyway. I haven’t had mine done since.

The Forza 300 is quite expensive. The 125 is capable of 75-80. If you can do it on the a road and it won't add much time on then the PCX is much cheaper. Great review and thanks for sharing. I keep saying I'm going to get a scooter one day for exactly that. An affordable bike from getting A to B. Considering that you did your oil change yourself, is it part of the agreement that you get it serviced yearly or relivent milage under the terms and conditions if you had it on a pcp? I would rather do it myself too than pay them but doesn't the book have to be stamped?

Thanks for commenting. I haven't got it on PCP. It's on finance to buy it outright. No requirement to service it through them. Scooter theft (and car theft) is terrible in the UK. They also use scooters for muggings and thefts in the UK in London and they've been used on some fairly high profile acid attacks too. So it's frustrating but I get why it costs more. Scooters and bike generally are also much more common in Europe generally especially Spain, Portugal, Italy etc.

Strangely not normally initially, when you get a full licence effectively you've held your last licence for longer than your new entitlement so therefore you might actually pay slightly more for insurance but it will drop quicker after that

Hi John. Great review... nice & to-the-point. I got a new PCX in 2019 but only kept it 4 months. Had to sell it after a run of bad luck with an accident (non-motorcycle) & illness left me unable to ride & lucky to be alive. Anyway, 20 months on & I'm largely recovered and looking to get back on 2 wheels. I used to get 130mpg from my PCX and paid £130pa for fully-comp insurance. It was just comfortable enough for me at 6'3" tall, 15 stone & 34" leg. I could hustle that little scooter along the twisties and could easily outrun many of the sunny-Sunday type riders on much bigger bikes (how embarassing for them) though they left me for dust on the straights. I like simple functional bikes and laugh at the overly-complicated 'Adventure' or 'Superbike' bikes on the market with price-tags of £14k+. I had planned on another dual-sport like the forthcoming CRF300L or the rumoured Kawi KLX650 (perfect for tackling Edinburgh's shi77y roads on my commute), but the forthcoming Forza 350 is grabbing my attention as well - because of how much I liked the PCX, and living further out of town now the extra power would be needed. Don't know why scooters aren't as popular in the UK as abroad... reckons it's a macho ego thing, but I love them. Best tool for the job, in my case, is probably a Forza.

I got mine in 2019. I highly doubt you'll get 0% now. But your best chance is to put down a bigger deposit. I put down £1000 of the £2929 that it retailed at. They called Honda finance to see if they could offer it (it was a Honda dealer). I doubt in the current climate with interest rates nearly 8 times higher than when I bought mine that you'll get a deal like that. You'd be better taking a bank loan at about 4-5% and buying it with cash and paying the bank back instead. Finance deals are normally running at about 7-9% currently I think. Good luck!

Can you fit the flip fronted or standard full face helmet under the seat ok?
@jrewillis4 жыл бұрын
I use a large helmet size and can fit a full face under there - my MT Atom flip won't fit under there - it goes in my top box. :)

How are the rear brakes
@jrewillis3 жыл бұрын
Fine generally - plenty of power as the bike is light - no ABS on the rear - so you need to be aware of that.

How much was your insurance and what company dis you use I was quoted for same bike fully comprehensive 1100 hundred just under do you no any companies what do the insurance for this bike cheaper thanks Wayne

Insurance is very dependent on areas, age, experience, previous history of claims etc. Use all the comparison websites. Then phone Adrian flux too. See what comes out cheapest. You can also push your excess up see if it makes a difference. If it does you can get excess insurance (shop around don't go with the insurer) good luck

Fast question why is Forza 125 more expensive in long run ? and am 36 hope am not to old to drive a 125cc scooter :D.Can you do a long journey runs ?.Cause i saw many videos of ppl doing like 400 miles easy all on country roads avoiding motorways.
@jrewillis4 жыл бұрын
Forza is more expensive as it has more power, more storage and has more factory fitted nice things like adjustable screen. Front and rear discs (needed for the weight). It's also a bit wider and holds the road a bit better. I'm 36 this year. I don't feel too old. And judging by my audience stats I'm not alone lol The biggest issue why people consider a 125 is running costs and licensing is simple. I did 100 miles on Sunday no issues. The Forza would likely be more comfortable over longer distances but if all the roads are less than 70mph the PCX would cope - the Forza is like going up a trim / equipment level in cars. Nicer but not needed if the PCX does the job you need.

@@jrewillis Well hello guys i'm 36 yo too and on the fence of buying a moto for 2 years now. The main thing that holds me from buying one is my pregnant wife :D .. but she agreed at least on a 125cc scooter which i can drive with my B license here in Slovakia ... i really can't decide between PCX, Forza, NMAX and XMAX .. looks like they are all great machines .. btw. great video, subscribed

All good bikes, I personally think it comes down to personal preference. The Forza and xmax are more expensive but slightly quicker. The nmax and honda pcx are very similar. I personally prefer the PCX styling. But it's individual taste. Congratulations on your incoming baby! Mine is now 6 - I'm not dead yet. The nice thing with the 125 is you can go quick enough to save time but not so quick that you'll die if you put all the power on in one go! Stay safe. Thanks for the sub! Appreciate it 🙏

How much is insurance roughly
@jrewillis3 жыл бұрын
Very subjective. Depends a lot on age, location, experience, license conditions. I am 36, full car NCB (won’t apply to bike), 1 year bike NCB and a fault claim on my car insurance 4 years ago. Fully comp with £100 excess I pay £500 approx. That’s with breakdown and legal cover too. Insurance on my car is £600 for context.

I'm considering buying a pcx 125 or Suzuki burgman 125, I'm inexperienced and don't know about bikes I'm just going with looks and price range, what do you think of burgman?
@jrewillis3 жыл бұрын
It’s generally a higher quality scooter but the often cost more. If you are looking for the best looking I’d say the PCX still. The Suzuki will likely have better suspension and be slightly quicker. But not much in it really.

How many miles of engine run-in did it take to get your pcx up to a reasonable speed? Does it still feel like it's wearing in? Or did you go full beans from the off?
@jrewillis4 жыл бұрын
Great question. I am at just under 2000 miles now. It's still not fully loose yet. But it definitely freed up from about 1000 miles. I never did full beans acceleration from standstills until 1000 miles. Now I rarely do it to save the belt and rollers but happy to if I feel like it. Should be at its quickest in about 3 years when I change belt for new one and engine is well worn in. Thanks for commenting mate. Be sure to sub for more content soon.

@@jrewillis I think I will try and look for one of these with a few thousand miles on at the very least then... My route is a lot of dual carriageway and national roads so 60+ mph for the majority! To me trying to do a forgiving run-in and keeping up with dual carriageway sounds impossible but then again you never know how a used one was treated under run-in conditions in so what's the difference really 😂
@jrewillis4 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Tbh I'm not sure how much difference run in conditions make. It's only a single cylinder and likely bomb proof anyway 🤣

Hey. So I put in the numbers and have worked out that buying the PCX 125 in the UK is far cheaper than in Ireland. What's up with that? I saw in the comments below you saying that it costs 2929 pounds there, while over here in euros that would be 3247.25! But I can only find it selling for about 3.7k, and with finance it racks up to 4.2k... Any ideas as to what is going on?
@jrewillis4 жыл бұрын
No idea. I assume it's a tax of some sort. Not sure if it's possible to just buy a UK one and the ride it over into Ireland? Only issue might be insurance could be higher as it's an "import" - worth checking.
@markusslama26534 жыл бұрын
@@jrewillis will do, thanks for the tip.
@romford444 жыл бұрын
You could buy in the UK and wouldn't have to pay the VAT, but then you'd have to pay the Irish equivalent. The PCX is type-approved for EU useage so you'd just need to make sure you got the Certificate of Conformity from either the dealer or Honda UK when you bought it to allow registration in Ireland. To be honest, by the time you've paid for transportation to Ireland (or picked it up in a van, or temp registered & insured it in the UK for the ride to the ferry terminal), then done your psperwork with associated fees etc etc, I think you'll find it's not worth it. Honda know this & price accordingly :(

The windshield you mean? If so then no the Honda one isn't. Givi make a tinted one. Personally I wouldn't want it tinted. It'd be dangerous at night or in rain. You'd struggle to spot drains, etc.

@@jrewillis do you think pcx 150 will consume more fuel than pcx 125 given the same ride pattern
@jrewillis4 жыл бұрын
I doubt it'll be much more if any. The extra power means it'll likely be working less hard. People often get the same fuel economy between a 125 and 150. It's a tiny difference if any.

Great update. Still got the bike? You highly recommend the higher windscreen, which I suppose is the original Honda screen? No problems with more air around the helmet, or more turbulance? Another question: Have you felt the need to adjust the handlebars, as they are quite close to the rider on the PCX?
@jrewillis3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t got the PCX any more as ive moved to a full license and a big bike now. But do miss my PCX. The windscreen is good. I did add an extension on the top - but I am probably unusually tall - 6ft 3 ish. Handlebars were never an issue for me tbh.
