Hi, I've had all types of bikes, dont jump to a bigger bike and expect the extra power will give you more pleasure. The real reason the pcx shines is that it's cheap and value for money. I gone on more ride outs on the pcx than any other bike I've owned . Regards Scott

That's so true Scott... I still own VFR800 but just ordered PCX in wish to downgrade and come back to basics... Been riding for almost 15 years now (I'm 33 years young ;) ) and through years always upgraded for moore power and "more bike".... But the truth is, that's not what riding is about... Can't wait for PCX to arrive, I'm now watching YT clips about it (it's ok to laugh at me :D )

I agree. I’ve got a little 125 and a bigger bike now (just waiting for my MOD2). I enjoy the 125 just as much as the big bike. Especially for commuting.

On unrestricted roads 125s are underpowered. You just don't have the power to get away from danger. In the city they are superb. Even better would be a bigger engined scooter.
@jrewillis
@jrewillis 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure. I’ve only got a 650 now. The power makes it much safer on faster roads like you say.

My 2011 PCX 125 is probably the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. So far the only difficult thing I have had to do to maintain it is change the tires, and I had to buy a few tools to work on it but, that is a bit more of an investment than a real cost of maintaining the bike. I have a neighbor who has a Honda Helix from the mid 80s and he told me he has never had to do an engine rebuild or anything, so Honda is doing something right making these things.
@jrewillis

100%. They really do know how to build bikes well. Everyone I’ve ever spoken to has never had any major issues with any Honda they’ve owned. Be it 125, 250, 500 and 1000cc bikes.

I've had my PCX for 8 years, and never had any problems at all. I live in Thailand where the rural roads can be a bit rough (the main roads are superb) My first oil and filter change was one month ago I'm ashamed to admit, but the Honda is amazing. I can honestly say, the Honda PCX is the best motorcycle I've ever owned, and that's saying something, because I currently own a Triumph Speedmaster 2018, but in this heat I prefer to use the PCX. Absolutely Brilliant bike.

Dominic Purdue Hi Dominic . I want to pick your brains I would like to change the saddle has the step is too far forward on my 2018 model . I know in Thailand custom PCX seats are a big thing could you suggest one of the better makers to look at as to import one to the UK it’s really expensive so I don’t want to waste my hard earned cash. Many thanks Lee

To be honest, this Honda PCX 125 cc is the most ideal size of body scoot besides the good looking facial design not bulky that attracts buyer to this design even at 150cc Engine Displacement will do, nice if HONDA maintains this design with 3 different colors, Midnight Blue, Glossy Black, and Grey!!!

If you want to carry stuff day to day. Then a scooter is hard to beat. The pcx is lovely. The Forza is plush in comparison. If you have your full license then the Forza 300 is excellent too.

As much as you love this bike, I'm betting that at some point you'll go up in CCs. I say this because most people seem to see the move up as a necessary progression. I started off with a 50cc, I used to see this school girl zip by me at the bus stop every morning and I thought ' Damn, if she can I can ' and that's how/why I got into scooters. I sold my last Yamaha and I'm looking to buy another bike come spring and I think I'll go for the PCX. I was torn between that and the NMax but I think I'll go Honda. Great review though, very adult, measured and informative.

Hi great videos, I'm 59 and doing my CBT and I've been looking at the PCX, but a lot of people are saying to me that motorcycling is dangerous!
@jrewillis
@jrewillis 3 жыл бұрын
Well life is dangerous. Motorcycles statistically increase risk. Often outside your control. I got rear ended when waiting at traffic lights end of May. Apparently didn’t see me (bright green bike, fluorescent jacket, red helmet) - so often it isn’t you it’s “them” Don’t be put off - just get your CBT and I’d personally have some actual lessons and pass your MOD1 and 2 - the lessons teach you much more than just a CBT - I personally feel far safer riding since having further training than just my CBT.

Thanks buddy, great video and from the UK too - bonus as there are so few such videos. It was very informative. I have to say I’m a Burgman 650 rider but considering getting the PCX or Forza instead - I don’t dislike the Burgie but it’s just so very heavy to manoeuvre and is more than I need. I’m going to have another test ride soon hopefully on the Forza and PCX - only problem for me with the Forza is that it’s a little high for me in terms of the seat height that it’s hard to put my feet down anything like flat! Enjoy your bike and thanks again for your video.

HI, I am an American in Tokyo with a 4 year old PCX 125 with 36,000 km and it is still going strong. I also like the practicality of the little scooter in the congested streets of Tokyo. I have a 38 liter box added to it which allows me to get almost anything I need from shops. I suggest if you want to upgrade to a larger scooter that you look into the 150 cc version PCX or 250 cc Honda Forza.
@jrewillis
@jrewillis 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. They don’t do the 150 PCX here and the 300 Forza is our model. Anything above a 125 requires a full 2 test license - which I’m working on. Bit lockdown have caused Delays with tests etc. Thanks for commenting. Stay safe.

If the laws in the UK are similar to those in Japan, I would recommend looking into a Silverwing 400 or 600 if you can find one cheap. Though they have discontinued this bike it is a dream to ride, very quiet and vibration free at speeds of over 80 mph which you could do for hours without fatigue. I have a Silverwing 400 which I use for long distance travel and have had a 600 which is great but requires more juice to run. 400 cc is more than enough to move me and wife (130 kg total) about quickly enough.

Oh by the way I use a Wins Modify helmet which allows me to put in a bluetooth headset designed for bikes which allows me to answer phone calls, listen to music or audio books on longer trips. I have also added heated grips and handlebar covers for winter riding in addition to the tall windshield.

When do you have to have the valves adjusted? I’ve seen that on the PCX it is complicated to get to the valves to adjust them because you have to take the whole body off the scooter to reach them.

hello from Korea, PCX 125 is the best seller here, mainly used by delivery men, I heard that rear suspension (no adjustment for rear passenger) and CBS are the major problems, i own a Vespa Sprint 125 but I'm keeping it because it's the 'soul', but I wouldn't use a vespa for deliveries, so am also wishing to get a PCX too
@jrewillis
@jrewillis 4 жыл бұрын
Rear suspension is better on the latest version (triple rate) but not adjustable but at this price it's not surprising. The CBS isn't the same in the EU. It has ABS and a different system.

Great review again and Ive been deliberating getting a PCX for ages now. I got a geared bike in order to get used to changing gears in preparation for the test - but I dont use it much as I just cant be arsed changing gears. And I dont intend to do any touring so a PCX 125 auto would probably just suit my needs. Id even consider doing the test on it just to get rid of the L plates. Going to look at a PCX this week and see if it will accomodate a messenger shoulder bag and stuff. Cheers.

To be honest there is always risk. Wear the gear. Anticipate drivers. You can always be in a crash but hopefully with the right training and gear you aren’t too badly injured. I was hit from behind at 30mph and it was mainly just muscle damage that took time. No long lasting injuries.

Great review and thanks for sharing. I keep saying I'm going to get a scooter one day for exactly that. An affordable bike from getting A to B. Considering that you did your oil change yourself, is it part of the agreement that you get it serviced yearly or relivent milage under the terms and conditions if you had it on a pcp? I would rather do it myself too than pay them but doesn't the book have to be stamped?
@jrewillis
@jrewillis 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting. I haven't got it on PCP. It's on finance to buy it outright. No requirement to service it through them. And tbh with how much they charge even if the bike sells on for less it's not worth the price difference. To be honest I've never had issues with engines providing you service them within the schedule and look after them.

Hey John, well after a year on the road i was wondering how those Michelin tyres were holding up, because the Michelin's on my car were shot after 14 months and 18 thousand miles, yes they are super grippy on the the tarmac but they wear quick, got Continentals now and doing much better and to be honest, just as grippy but harder compound. I know you have only done 2 1/2 thousand but is there much wear that you can see ? glad to see you have the PCX still (a year later that is). phil.

125cc 4 strokes are designed to be at their max power by design. They don’t tune well. Not like 2 strokes. It’s not worth the Cost to tune for minimal performance gains. You’d be as well just going for a larger engine or a Forza as it’s 15bhp rather than 9bhp on the PCX

@jrewillis
@jrewillis 3 жыл бұрын
Very subjective. Depends a lot on age, location, experience, license conditions. I am 36, full car NCB (won’t apply to bike), 1 year bike NCB and a fault claim on my car insurance 4 years ago. Fully comp with £100 excess I pay £500 approx. That’s with breakdown and legal cover too. Insurance on my car is £600 for context.

PCX is super reliable, only time we had them come through the shop was just for an oil and filter change or when they let them sit for too long and the battery died (not the bike's fault). If you want to ride a bigger bike in the UK It requires a theory test and 2 further tests plus more training to pass those 2 tests. Forza is more expensive as it has more power, more storage and has more factory fitted nice things like adjustable screen. Front and rear discs (needed for the weight). It's also a bit wider and holds the road a bit better. I'm 36 this year. I don't feel too old. And judging by my audience stats I'm not alone lol The biggest issue why people consider a 125 is running costs and licensing is simple. I did 100 miles on Sunday no issues. The Forza would likely be more comfortable over longer distances but if all the roads are less than 70mph the PCX would cope - the Forza is like going up a trim / equipment level in cars. Nicer but not needed if the PCX does the job you need.

You could buy in the UK and wouldn't have to pay the VAT, but then you'd have to pay the Irish equivalent. The PCX is type-approved for EU useage so you'd just need to make sure you got the Certificate of Conformity from either the dealer or Honda UK when you bought it to allow registration in Ireland. To be honest, by the time you've paid for transportation to Ireland (or picked it up in a van, or temp registered & insured it in the UK for the ride to the ferry terminal), then done your psperwork with associated fees etc etc, I think you'll find it's not worth it. Honda know this & price accordingly :(

But by the time I'd done 30,000 miles it was like a bag of bolts. What are these little scooters like for longevity? as to save money I may go for a low mileage second hand one. Also are these water jacketed engines or some other fluid .? My dad had two CVT vehicles in his time one a DAF car the other a 50cc Yamaha scooter , how have you found the belt drive and does it have a change frequency.? Lastly the fraternity when I was a biker was more about helping other riders as they broke down so often. My Triumph T120 used more oil than petrol but my Matchless was ok just a bit endy. Thanks for answering my questions and thanks for a real riders view of these little scooters a days test drive like many tubers post as a review is really just an impression not a proper test. Hiya Lee Sure I can help out here. First of all they are water cooled single cylinders - super reliable and easy to maintain. Longevity wise I've spoken to many others about them and noone has ever had horror stories so by that reckoning I'd say it would be reliable. It's 21st century Honda. Bulletproof and well built. The belt needs changing every 15,000 miles - but it'll likely be done at 3 years (approx 12k) just to be safe. The belt drive with CVT is easy to use, makes city riding a doddle and is super relaxing to ride. Hope that helps mate. Same as yours, I was wary it would be a bit too slow but it,s lively enough for legal rides! Brakes are superb,as good as zx6 I used to have! Also I am 6ft 4 but it's ok position. Vespa is more spacious and ride quality is better. But its twice the price and pcx is teetotal with fuel. 1900mile on it now mainly for pleasure in the hills 😀

That's interesting that you have a Vespa 300 and find it more comfortable than the pcx. As I've been riding a primavera 125 since 2016, did 32000 miles on it. Recently got an SH125i and find it more comfortable than the Vespa primavera, granted it has 11 inch wheels, the SH has 16 inch wheels. The Vespa is more comfortable than a Honda SFX 50 I still own. The SH did take some getting used to, as it rides high compared to the primavera. One last thing, my bike came from the dealers with over inflated tyres, I adjusted to the hand book, after the service had to let some air out again, makes for a very hard ride having too much air in the tyres.

Hi. Just wondering how you managed to get a 0% finance deal ? Where have you bought it from if you don't mind me asking?
@jrewillis
@jrewillis Жыл бұрын
I got mine in 2019. I highly doubt you'll get 0% now. But your best chance is to put down a bigger deposit. I put down £1000 of the £2929 that it retailed at. They called Honda finance to see if they could offer it (it was a Honda dealer). I doubt in the current climate with interest rates nearly 8 times higher than when I bought mine that you'll get a deal like that. You'd be better taking a bank loan at about 4-5% and buying it with cash and paying the bank back instead. Finance deals are normally running at about 7-9% currently I think. Good luck!

Nice video, when you said 200 to 250 miles on a tank, I thought what? My SH125i so far I've done 195 on a tank, but then I looked at the spec and the pcx has an 8 litre tank, 1 more litre than my SH.

I have a full bike licence and commute daily on a 125,I also have a bigger bike but would always choose the 125 for commuting. Unless you do many miles on motorways or 60mph plus roads anything more than a 125 is a waste, plus also the extra running costs and the attractiveness of bigger bikes to thieves is a headache for most riders. I'm currently running an 18 plate Grom with nearly 18k miles on it and it's never been to a dealer since the day I brought it. Oil changes,valve adjustments you name it have been done by myself. I change the oil every 3 months which works out around a 1k miles but this is 1k miles of hard commuting, heavy traffic,lots of clutch work so it's tiny 900ml of oil gets a hard time. I'm currently considering a PCX as my next workhorse. Great reviews by yourself from a normal guy and not a motorcycle road tester who only spends a few hours on a bike.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I agree - commuting on the PCX is a doddle! My review is honest there is very little that is bad with the PCX - for the money I don’t think you can get better. I’m doing my full license to allow me to have other “toys” but I still love my PCX. Thanks for taking the time to comment Philip. 👍🏻

I've always said that if you want to ride in an urban area or commute you pretty much can't do it cheaper than a 125, which is why the Honda pcx 125 is the best selling bike in the UK, bar non

Thanks for your well-commented review, I can just confirm all your positive points on this wonderful bike - I am now riding the 2018/2020 version (as yours) which is a real improvement from the previous version (until 2017) - when you spoke about upgrading inside the 125cc range, I consider the same point but just see that the weight/bhp ratio is not really improving when going to a Forza 125 or X-max 125 ! Compared with all the nice & easy PCX features, incl limited costs, I think I will keep my PCX ! The only regret is for me the poor seat comfort on bumpy roads, and I am looking for any solution from accessory shopping on the net, any idea ? Regards,
@jrewillis
@jrewillis 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback and comment. I have seen some seats online that might help but for me they were too expensive. I didn’t find comfort an issue. But I suppose it depends what the roads are like. The website I found was: bikerzbits.com/honda/pcx/seats/ Like I say lots of choice but expensive and shipping is expensive.

Hi John. Thanks for all your really helpful videos. I am currently considering buying a Honda PCX and your vlog has given me some great insights. The only other possible candidate is a Yamaha NMAx. I understand the PCX only has ABS on the front as the rear is a drum brake. When you were out and about on your PCX (I appreciate that your videos are 2-3 years old by now and you no longer own the PCX and have joined the group of "proper" motorcyclists), did you experience any problems with the rear brake? The Yamaha NMax has ABS front and back, but is not as practical as the PCX, so I am unsure which way to go from here. Anyway, keep up the good work!
@jrewillis
@jrewillis Жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the reply. No issues whatsoever. The rear brake does very little anyway. So I'd still recommend the PCX. The NMAX for me offers no real difference. The new PCX has even better fuel economy (how?!) I'd fully recommend one! One of my other subscribers bought a brand new PCX last year and already has 6500 miles on it. It looks brand new still!

Hi John, I have a full bike licence and do 56 mile round trip to work and back in a Honda CRV. I’m thinking of getting a 300 forza or pcx the pcx is cheaper and from your excellent review looks the better deal regarding fuel, normally I travel down the motorway but would have to use the A roads as the pcx may not be suitable for motorways. Any help much appreciated. Regards, Ian

The Forza 300 is quite expensive. The 125 is capable of 75-80. If you can do it on the a road and it won't add much time on then the PCX is much cheaper. I'd personally say go for the Forza 125 (cheaper than the 300 but quicker than the PCX) Let me know how you get on mate. Like I said I'm considering a Forza 👍🏼

I am like you be grudge paying for maintenance if i can do it my self. Especially if its so easy to do. Think i will be doing oil changes inbetween services cant do any harm and the costs in doing so are negligible. Just gutted i need to wait till sept 19th for the CBT thanks to the virus. So will probs be the following week i get the bike. Dealer is going to deliver it as its 40 mile from me up at Carlisle and dont fancy riding back on a notorious bad road after just passing my CBT.

Keep me posted. I'll be continuing with my uploads. I really enjoy that they help people out! Top tip for you on your CBT - always look where you want to go. Not at the floor in front of you. The bike will follow where you look. Worth practising figure of 8s and slow turns etc on a push bike too.

Ok John had my PCX for enough time to evaluate it. Added as you did a taller screen and top box pulse a little adjustable wind deflector on the screen only £13 which is great . It was not a new bike with 3100 on the clock with a full service history £2100 Problems ? one minor there is a rattle from the front fairing so I need to strip it and find the problem. Seat step is a tad to far forward but I may splash out on a Thailand one they have some fantastic custom saddles Bigger bike ? not sure I’ve a full licence so I hired a Suzuki GS 650 to see what modern bikes are like . Yup it’s quite quick and plenty of power but the PCX is more comfortable and to be honest you hit 70 and I got fed up with the wind buffeting. If I only had a 10-15 mile commute specially mostly in built up areas the PCX would be a better choice for me. That said I have done a 200mile camping outing on it and it was really relaxed just pottering at a steady 50. My conclusion it’s a great little machine and I’m not surprised globally one of the most popular.

Hi John, I really like your video on the PCX. I’ve read through quite a few of the comments and your replies. The big question I have about the PCX is this: ‘what is it like to get the valves adjusted?’ And when do they need adjusting? The reason I ask is that in order to get to the valves on a PCX you have to remove all the plastic panels.... which seems really, really complicated...

Yeah for sure. We have 2 cars in our household and my intention was originally to move to one car. But honestly when it’s bad weather it just isn’t worth the risk. The fuel savings the rest of the year make it sensible to continue running a bike. And for me it’s more the time savings. My commute is so much quicker on a bike. For cold weather riding I highly recommend bar muffs and decent gloves. Don’t bother with heated grips. They can drain your battery if you forget to turn them off or the timer fails on them. Gloves work always and bar muffs don’t really cost anywhere near as much and can be moved from bike to bike. Ride safe mate!

To be honest they did mine at the 600 mile service and they were already fine. It costs a lot in time as you have to remove a lot of panels to check them. Most people do it once to ensure they are done then likely don’t bother again. The engines are pretty tough anyway. I haven’t had mine done since.
