Wow this so much easier than I thought. I don’t know about draining fluid twice. I would just drain it once but wait little longer to put a new fluid back in. Thx. For the video.
@westvalley4113 жыл бұрын
Always dirty fluid in the filter and system so not unusual to do twice...
@mentalbreak46533 жыл бұрын
The fluid doesn’t drain from the torque converter when you drain the transmission so the second drain is when the new fluid circulates with the old in the converter so you actually get probably 90 % old out

Who's the best video just inspired me and I did it! I forgot since I'm a newbie that you have to take off the side plug on the oil catch it almost overflowed! This is so easy. I don't know about running two sets of fluid though that's expensive. Seems like getting it 90% + clean is sufficient.

Does the 2020 Pilot have a transmission filter that needs to be changed when transmission oil is changed? You didn’t change it on video. Thanks.

Transmission don’t use oil Transmission use fluid and yes about the external filter for all 6AT but that filter can be changed every 60,000 miles for example after your second transmission service if you like.

Thanks for the info. Doesn't seem too hard. Went in for this service on my 2017. Honda says the fluid alone is 256 bucks. I have the 9 speed. Does that sound right? I followed the link you left for the fluid and was shocked. Is it because I have the 9 speed?
@MINUTEDIYVIDEOS4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the 9 speed transmission is a different procedure and fluid :( it’s actually a much more difficult DIY, instructions have been posted on the internet here: www.piloteers.org/attachments/115809/ Although I haven’t done the procedure, it looks more like the CVT fluid change I’ve done on the civic which requires the addition of removing a check bolt that you use to ensure the exact level of transmission fluid you can watch here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3jNmJmHjLeGhJI From the procedures I see in the pdf, seems the drain bolt faces down, which probably aids in draining fluid completely but seems like a messy proposition when it comes to removing the drain bolt. Make sure the suv is on level when filling :) It’s not super difficult but it is more work, what do you think? And thanks for watching my video! Luke

@@MINUTEDIYVIDEOS it isn't just a difficult DIY, you can't really replicate what the honda computer does, you need a lift etc. It's just one of those (few) things that you're much better off with the dealer doing.

@keithjimison71632 жыл бұрын
Yes you can change the filter. The filter is an inline filter just like a fuel filter. Its mounted on the transmission cooler line that runs from the radiator. I've changed mines twice on my 2016 pilot. It's on the same side of the engine as the transmission dipstick.

So if the oil is still dirty and you have to do it again, does that mean I need to buy another 4 quarts of oil? 8 quarts to do it twice? Or do I use the same oil I used the first time?

Buy the 8 quarts and change it twice depending on the color or burnt smell. Verify fluid needs to be changed first

Odd how the manual gives oil change instructions, but doesn't give transmission fluid change instructions, and says that it must be changed by a dealer.

I am just finding out that what you have just said is the truth ! I have a 2020 Pilot and I was looking at the manual to find the location to check the transmission fluid, I was shocked to find out that it isn’t available. Had I known, I wouldn’t have purchased it because I do my own work on my cars and this makes me feel as though I am being forced to pay someone for something I can do myself. I spoke to someone at the dealership yesterday and he said that he drives an older model 2000 Pilot that he can perform all of the work himself, he advised me to do the same. I agree!
@christodd8949 Жыл бұрын
@@matthewpadgett9526 I think the older models are different. The little I've read, there seems to be a special temperature measuring tool required to perform the fluid change, 9 speed model especially.
