I wish mine came with the push pins. Mine are the same style but you put a flat screwdriver under the middle pin and pop it, then pull the collar off.

Great Video, used your link, to buy a kit. Kit was reasonably priced and came complete. However (FYI) they sent one correct washer and one that is too big and obviously was for the sub trans (ie bigger bolt). I sent a nice email to them complimenting the kit, service, shipping and pointed out they are sending the wrong washer (I had to use one old one since one of the two they sent was clearly too big). There response was that I was wrong and they sent the correct washers that Honda recommends one big and one small. So, you may want to reach out to them.
@loveistheanswer81372 жыл бұрын
The two for the oil change are the same. The kit I bought had three washers. The bigger one is for the sub transmission which I believe they only recommend changing every two years. The two bolts to drain the oil are both 12 mm. The sub trans bolt is bigger. I’m sure you are right, and they sent the wrong washer. Cheers.

Great video BUT be careful with the bolts holding on the two oil filter covers. They are extremely soft and didn't get anywhere near the specified torque. 3 of the 5 sheared off. I replaced all 5 with a bolt of appropriate hardness.

As always I really like your very detailed instructional videos. I do have a question for you. I hit a some rather large rocks at Turkey Bay about 3 weeks ago and bent right tie rod into A arm and cut brake line into. I have ordered the brake line from local Honda dealer and it's on back order, "a brake line on back order, WHATTTT?", yes it really is. Do you know of a trusted brand of braided SS brake line made especially for the 2017 Honda 1000-5?

Do you know what’s required on the first 20 hours of service for the 2021 Honda pioneer 1000-5 and how Strict is Honda is in regards to warranty if you do your own maintenance? My local dealership wants 460$ to 580$ for the first 20 hour service saying it’s more in depth to recheck everything on machine since newly assembled and can take 5 hrs they claim

Man love watching your videos, your reviews and videos are largely responsible for my getting a 1000-5. The manual says to change fluids after first 100 miles. Ive read on some forums that isnt enough time for break in. What did you do on yours? What do you recommend?

I went by hours which I believe the book says 20hrs but I may be getting it confused with the X4...lol. I do know that what ever the hours were I was over the mileage suggestion a bit. I believe between 150 and 200 miles.

Did you end up getting rid of the 1000? Haven't seen any new vids about it. If so what made you decide to dump it? I'm considering getting into one. Thanks
@AppalachianMountainRiders4 жыл бұрын
I did. I sold it to buy the Yamaha Wolverine X4. Nothing wrong with the Pioneer 1000 but I liked the X4 better and it’s much more maneuverable than the Pioneer with just as much power. Also comfier seating in the rear and a far less cab heat.
@Tyler_Koehn4 жыл бұрын
@@AppalachianMountainRiders Thanks for the info. Now I better dig into this a bit more. I had heard early years may have had some clutch issues/ slippage but didn't read much about the excessive heat. Any info on if it's been addressed since your year? I have yet to drive a pioneer but my knee jerk reaction is honda all the way. I don't really plan on needing a crew cab nor do I really want one. So I was leaning to the 1000-3
@AppalachianMountainRiders4 жыл бұрын
The clutch issues are no longer a thing. Honda pretty much resolved that by 18’ model years. Also with the 3 seater the heat isn’t as bad either.

Brendon Hammond Honda rarely innovates. They stick with what works, and they have been using cartridge style filters for decades. If it works, why change? Probably more compact to keep the cartridge filters anyway.

Do you have to change the smaller transmission filter also with the engine oil filter, a Honda mechanic told me you only change it when you change the transmission fluid?
@AppalachianMountainRiders6 жыл бұрын
No, you don’t have too change it. I always did them both as do many other 1000 owners because the transmission doesn’t require a fluid change as often as the oil. It doesn’t hurt to put a fresh filter in while you have the filter cover off just to be in the safe side.
@timsr.67066 жыл бұрын
@@AppalachianMountainRiders Thanks. i just bought a 1000 eps, and picking it up next week, was a little confused about the sub-transmission, and the 3 plugs, 2 filters, I got it now. Thanks, i will change both at same time when it needs it, i thought the smaller filter was for the sub-tranny, the way the mechanic was explaining it. It's hell getting older.....
@AppalachianMountainRiders6 жыл бұрын
Maybe the way I explained it confused you or I wasn’t very clear because the smaller filter IS for the sub trans and the sub trans has separate oil from the engine. If you look in the book it says that the sub tranny oil doesn’t need changed in the same amount of miles as the engine oil. But like I said might as well change both filters while you got the cover off even though you may not be changing the sub trans fluid at the same time.
@chevyon37s4 жыл бұрын
AppalachianMountainRiders wrong. The small filter is for the DCT(hell its labeled as such), which the DCT is the same oil as the engine oil (fun fact the sub trans also uses the same oil as the engine, for those who don’t know.) The sub transmission does not have a filter. (Per the Honda manual they make ZERO mention to a filter regarding the sub transmission oil change)
