today is my 55th birthday i have been watching this young guy ! build this mad thing for a couple of months now :) the one thing i will say is he's a freaking quick learner . 25 years ago i ran a shop /garage that repaired old vdubs , but i would never have put /married two totaly diferent cars together . i watch this because this guy is so freaking clever but claims he knows nothing ? come on he knows far more than he lets on :) i have watched youtube ever since it came out so i think he's a pritty good youtuber for todays standards

Just a question. I remember that the sils of the bug slides into the sils of the mr2 from the sides. How do you intend on fitting that again now that the bug body is welded together?
@GARAGEIdiotS5 жыл бұрын
The plan is to cut the mr2 sills flat so instead on the bug sliding into them, it’ll just sit right onto them

After watching this, I think the best move would be to not try to fit the VW to the frame but to split the VW , add the 10 inches and brace it all straight and square then set it on the frame and cut to fit ! It looks like trying to put 2 halves on was a big problem with nothing set and square ! Also adding in bowed bits in the gaps looks like a problem...would having a metal man make up some straight bits bent up to fit the angles in may have been a better idea.......But what the hell.........I'm sure in the end it will be great looking and a ton of fun ! which is the whole Idea right ?

The more I look at this the more I think it may have been easier to just build a round tube chassis that you could bolt on the bug front suspension, mount a k series engine and trans and dropped a stock bug body on top of it. You could have used parts of the original bug chassis as a template for suspension, and other mounting points.
@GARAGEIdiotS5 жыл бұрын
I don’t disagree with you but building a tube chassis is way beyond my skill level right now, this was an idea I saw possible for me to do with my current skill set

@@GARAGEIdiotS People used to build 180mph rails on a garage floor in the late 60s with simple hand tools and a stick welder (no shit). You strike me as a guy who can who can do anything if you put our mind to it, and your work ethic is off the chart. I say what a bunch of other guys have said. If you were local to me I think I would have showed up to be off camera help.
