There was clear wear on the tie rod ends on our Honda Rancher 420, and in this video, John will show you how to do this easy job. You’ll need separate part numbers for the right and the left, and if you’re replacing one, it makes sense to replace both sides:

We’ll start with the wheel already removed. John will show you how to remove the tie rod end in a way that will prevent you from having to re-align the steering. With the old tie rod end removed, we’ll replace it and get the wheel back in place.

I had an inner tie rod pop right off the ball this weekend while riding fairly slow thankfully. It had little to no play in the direction of the steering (I check often) but when I popped it back on the ball I could definitely feel lots of play in the vertical direction. I then checked the other inner tie rod end and sure enough it has a fair amount of play vertically too but none horizontally (in the steering directions). My lesson from all this, check your tie rods in the vertical direction too. I'm going to change both inners and outers. Thanks for the videos, they have helped me with a number of jobs on my bike.

How do you know if it’s the inner or outer end going bad? I have a small amount of play when steering but I can’t see any real play in the ends?

Just bought a Sportsman 700. Steering felt a bit sloppy. Outer right tie rod was setting on the knuckle!!! There was 1 inch of up and down movement on end ball. This tie rod you took off the Honda still looked great compared to this mess 😂

The way you wiggle the end both of mine on my 2020 foreman wiggle easily like that. But I have a hard time believing both ends are bad. When the front wheels are off the ground and I steer with the handle bars there's no slop and if I push the wheel left or right they both turn with each other.

Do you and or, should you, lubricate tie rod ends at intervals? My sportsman's are shot and I need to replace. It has a boot and a through bolt. A little different than this type.

Can you fix this by putting in a lift kit because mine if you take your hands off the bars it starts to drift to the right and I don’t know what it could be but it could be the tie rod so if you could reply that would help a lot

The tie rod in the inside has a L on it correct. The one on the outside by the wheel doesn’t have a letter meaning it’s the outside

You said different part number for left-to-right did you mean left side of the machine outer tie rod is different than the right side of machine outer tie rod? Or inner is different than outer
