My rancher suddenly shut off for no reason. All the dash lights working, gear switches working, but it would not run or restart. Discovered it was the handlebar kill switch. Moved it back and forth about a dozen times and problem solved. Note that just a few times wasn't enough. Also I held down the starter button while moving it back and forth, and noticed that it was momentarily triggering the starter. That's how I found it was the kill switch.

Lifesaver!! I was just in the middle of the woods checking Coyote traps, went to back up and it died. Wouldnt do anything but the screen was on so I followed your steps, checked fuses and then I realized when you said to check it, I hit the kill switch. Hopped on and rode out!! I never use that switch and I was about to hike back and get help but thanks to your video I checked that! Thank you !!!

Great information I had good power at 30 amp main and at 10 amp ignition but no power to safety kill switch Back tracked to fuse box and found ignition power wire chewed into 3/4 inch below fuse box Thanks for the video

Great video. Any suggestions if when you turn the key on dash lights come on headlights come on and starter will cycle but no fuel pump. All fuses are good and it only did this when it was -20F. I pushed it in the garage with the heat on and 30 min later everything everything was back to normal? Thank you.

Thank you! My Rancher stopped while riding and the ignition would not work. The indicator panel lit up and the lights still worked. I swapped out my 10 amp fuses with the spares and found the bad fuse.

In my case, however, my solenoid ALWAYS has the same voltage as my battery. It is as if the solenoid is stuck in the energized position. Great info. 2000 rancher here. Starts in occasion with the electric start, on first pull with cord. Seem like the solenoid is clicking every time I try to start it. How likely do I have a bad starter?

Great video, well done. My machine is a Honda TRX400FA Four Trax Rancher ATMy problem is different in that the starter keeps trying to crank while I am driving it and after I shut everything off. Rani fine until I got caught in a rainstorm. Ever hear pf that problem? I cannot find a short making that happen but does not mean it does not exist. I plan to replace the solenoid since the machine was in a garage that burned a while back and some of the wires melted. That was when I got it and it has always run fine.

Hi, I had mice chew the three wires coming from the engine to the rectifier/regulator and I don’t know which wire went to which now. Does it matter at all which one I connect them to? I’m assuming if they are all putting out 18 volts, it shouldn’t matter. I just want to be sure and not damage anything further. Thanks in advance.

Hi John; always great video's. love watching them. always precise. i have a question if you don't mind. i have a honda rancher trx420 fe that doesn't idle down whatsoever. i have put so many new parts on it and yet it just want idle good. here is a run down of what i did. for starts a air filter--- new fuel rail---new injector---new IACV--new fuel pump---new fuel filter---new petcock---clean tank very well---new spark plug---and tried spraying contact cleaner around throttle body to see if it was sucking air anywhere while it was running. also no codes are flashing and does not idle well at all. kind of spit and sputter with high idle. any input would help thanks in advance

I have a Honda Rubicon (Big Boy). It's a 2006 model that we use to ride and inspect our farm. We don't drive it enough. It has less than 150 miles on it. I drain most of the gas and disconnect the battery and run all the gas out of the carburetor for the winter. I've changed the oil once. My problem is that I cannot keep it running without the choke being in the on position. I can ride it around the yard with the choke in on position. The minute I stop to idle and turn the choke off, it dies out. It also dies out when I go from neutral to drive. It is also difficult to change gears. What do you think is the problem?

Great video. I have tried everything in the video you mentioned including the starter relay. I am getting good signals from all tests. The battery is good (12.8 volts) and I get the click from the relay. I even tried a new starter and all I get in the click from the relay. Anyone have any ideas on what else it could be? Thanks.

@@rogerthedodger5788 Yes, I solved it. The problem was with the starter. Just inexperience on my part. The Hondas are fairly easy to work on. I can't complain as mine is 8 years old and this is the only issue I have had to date. Still on original battery.

My Honda Rancher does everything you said it does but it just clicks so I'm assuming it's a bad starter or there's not enough power to the battery I never checked the voltage on the battery but should it jump with a jump starter and I clicked them to verify it's not the starter

We have a Honda Rincon that we trained the fuel out of because I've been sitting for two plus years we put some new fuel in the tank and it turns over but won't start before draining the fuel it would actually start what can possibly be the issue

My 2013 Foreman 500 makes a clunking sound upon trying to start. Sometimes it makes the sounds and starts and sometimes is doesn’t but will usually start on 2nd attempt. Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

I have this problem on a 2010 honda rancher. I don't know if the battery is just dead. A mouse made a nest among all that wiring and stripped some of it. Bare wires showing. Should I keep going or take it to the Honda repair shop? I don't know anything about wiring.

I wish someone could tell me why mine runs fine like normal no problems at all .. then all of a sudden it just dies like you hit the kill button looses all electrical ..then takes spells it will run a week without an issue then days it does it multiple times a day ...can someone please help ..

Awesome video and troubleshooting steps! Do you have steps on troubleshooting ES not shifting, dashes on dash, not fuel pump click or spark troubleshooting steps? I traced most of the wires, check the shift motor is good. Is it my ECM? Somebody left it in gear, used the kill switch, did not turn off key and cause the battery to go dead... How it all started..

@@gyminit5 Yes, it was my ECM. I swapped the ECM from another 4W and solved my problem. Then I ordered one from Amazon. This worked for my model. HONDA 38770-HP5-603 PGM-FI UNIT

Never had an issue with my 2016 rancher. I always shut off with the key. Went for a ride, shut off with the key. When to start up, display would not show N for neutral. Clicking noise under display. Disconnected the battery and reconnected. The display showed N for neutral, push the start button and the start solenoid clicks and starter doesn’t engage and display shows “-“ where neutral should be showing. Seems like an electrical issue with the display not showing N neutral. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
