Honda RC51 Dislikes

Some thought of my RC51 and listing some dislikes about ownership of the RC51. Most of these dislikes would be the same for other bikes of this era like the #cbr900rr

Nice bike . I agree , I will never sell mine , but it is hard to really enjoy it as parts are getting tough to find . SP1 here in the frozen north. Thing is so bad a street bike , until you get it up a little, then magic ! I have mid rise Hindles and glorious sound . I have a 21 Busa also , which is awesome but the 51 just is more enjoyable to ride out on a bike night. The biggest dislike I have is , it’s always twice as long a ride because everyone wants to stop and talk about it . Like I said , yours is beautiful, keep it safe .

Thanks Chris, I always thought the high rise Hindles looked awesome! Only good thing about living up North is being able to appreciate the bikes when the weather cooperates. Hang in there!

Yeah I'd like to but want to make sure it's done right. Fortunately I came across a new old stock tail that I haven't put on yet. I'm still riding it a bunch so I'm saving the NOS tail for now.

It is one of the most iconic bikes for now and definitely in the future. Most owners will never sell it. The thing that I found remarkable was the first gear. It's long, and I have to use the clutch more than I'm used to. While driving, it's okay.

throw a tooth or 2 on the back sprocket but i will warn you the power curve lifts the front end in a blink of an eye.

i still have my 03 , bought it dropped bent front wheel with 5k on it 900. bucks as soon as i got the front wheel i was riding it daily , now all i do is improve and improve . and i wont ever sell it . currently its in chinese repsol fairings but i bought a plastic we lder and im learning lol.

All fuel cells are made from metal. It's the law. Every street legal bike is required to have a metal gas tank.

I’ll agree that my statements on fuel tanks were a bit over reaching and that the majority of street bike tanks are still metal. My last bike was a KTM RC8R and that bike did have a plastic fuel tank and guys were frustrated with it expanding and not fitting right. Sounds like the Harley V-Rod also used a plastic fuel tank. I still yield and acknowledge that metal is still the majority. I saw quite a few discussions online about guys having trouble getting DMV approval on dual sports that upgraded from the stock metal tank to a larger plastic aftermarket tank. Sounds like the main concern is the structural integrity of the tank during a crash and leaking/ igniting fuel. Cars have less concern with plastic fuel tanks because they are reinforced on the exterior with metal. I appreciate your comment as I learned a little more. Thanks for watching my vid.

@@DasGoodMoto we're not even allowed to use plastic fuel cans on job sites that have anything to do with govt money and roads especially.

tabk covers on newer bikes are plastic over the metal tank.

Good catch! I have it on the clutch side but not the throttle side. I attempted to put it on but there are more pieces than you would think to the assembly. My throttle was sticking with them installed so I'm going to get it sorted once riding season is done. I've got 5 young kids so these little things sometimes get put to the back burner :)

@@DasGoodMoto it seems there is a spacer locator then an allen bolt thru the actual bar end wieght 3 pieces , sounds like you are missing the spacer . cheapest parts on ebay either oem or after market . i have the scott steering damper on my 03 but ill be honest it has never ever shook its head not even a lil bit. but the bar end wieghts are important missing 1? take off the other til you get it . but i have a couple here ill send it to you no problem no charge .
