Honda Rincon 680 Motor Removal

Thanku bud I got so far into pullin out a 680 engine and i was stump on how to get the front and rear shaft off....so when all else fail go to utube . .well undo the front diff ..... Made my night so much better Thank god for utube Thanku heaps for video i have watched a few and learnt a lot Mine has 5500hrs never been touched Oil pump lost pressure And needs a new set of rings Cheers gary From australia

Thanks for the great videos! I'm pulling my engine out of my rincon as we speak. The rear crank case and rear gear case needs to be replaced. These videos are helping me out alot! Still not looking forward to taking the engine out and replacing the rear gear case though haha

Hey mi quad has a problem that it wont pull when driven it just goes slow and can’t go up a little hill, ive been told it could be the cam shaf, would you recommend replacing that?

The one I have that looks like a forked screw driver is a tack puller tool and can be picked up at most big box hardware stores. I'm not sure where I got the tool I use that looks like a pair of pliers

Hey four wheeler doctor appreciate your videos! I am pulling my 650 rincon motor out because of the grinding going from neutral into forward and reverse and a loss of power driving sometimes the engine Revs up but the speed slows down. I’m wondering based off of that info if my problem lies in with what happened to this wheeler in the video? Your advice would be greatly appreciated

I seen this video many times still don’t show everything. He stop the tape and turn it back on when that part is done. How do I pull the front driveshaft out

You have to unbolt but not remove the front diff. Take a crow bar and pry the driveshaft forward while lifting up on the diff. The shaft will collapse enough to get it off the front output shaft of the engine

Hi I’m wondering if you had a problem with the rincon not charging the battery while it’s running I changed 2 batteries in less then 2 weeks I changed the stator put a used stator in from a other bike I’m using for parts and I also changed the rectifier from the parts bike and it’s still not charging any ideas what it might be

Broke a drain plug and can’t get an easy tap on it. Wondering How many hours are entailed to dissect the bike and get rest of that plug out.

Not good. Can you not put a larger nut on it and weld inside the nut to the remaining portion of the drain bolt. You ready don't want to split the case but if you did, you would probably be looking at 3 to 4 hours to get it out and tore down.

I inherited a 2005 Honda rincon project with the motor already off some young kid thought he could fix it but I’ll leave it at that. Any way I’m in the process of putting the motor back in the frame but I’m trying to figure out which side each shifting solenoid goes in the motor he didn’t disconnect the wire he pulled each one out of the motor. Any help would be great thanks

If you are sitting on the bike the gray one goes to the left and the brown one goes on the right.

Hi fourwheeldoc! I am working on my 680 rincon and I’m trying to figure out why Honda has two different part numbers for the rear axles but they look exactly the same? Any idea?

I'm not sure why it would be two part numbers. What I normally do is check eBay and see if they sell them as a right and left or as a single axle that will fit both sides. In your case they sell them as a single axle that will fit both sides so they are the same.

@@daviddingwall7069 what happens a lot of times is there may be a slight difference in length between the two axles and Honda would make those different but the aftermarket folks would manufacture so that both would fit. If I had to guess I would say it was a minute difference between the two but the axle should be interchangeable from side to side

It is the oil temperature sensor.

@@creedencegoosehead9458 normally they just bolt right up. The only thing you usually have to change is the heater that screws into the bottom of the carb but some of the new ones come with those.

Have you ever had the timing adjustment casting brake on on the block of one my 650 was broken on the block when we broke it down. What can you do to fix it if anything?

It's where the timing adjuster goes the cast has broken.

I just did one in 45 minutes. I can take one apart in about the same amount of time and put it back together in about an hour but cleaning the inside of one out takes me almost 2 hours

We have a 2009 Honda 680 that just started burning oil, BAD. I have check for leaks and do not see any. We have blue smoke coming out of the tell pipe while riding, so I am thinking it is either rings, valves or cylinder wall letting oil into the combustion chamber. What do you think? The bike has about 500 hours on it. Oil change was done every 100 hrs.

If I had to bet on it I would say rings and cylinder. Probably need to have it bored, piston and rings replaced.

Can you list the special tools needed to do the job? I am mechanically incline and have 90% of the tools, I think. I have a inch and Nm torque wrenchs and all the common hand tools. What is the average cost to do that type of job? I called the Honda dealer where we purchased it from and I was surprised at the cost.

If you are just going to do the top end, then really the only special tool you will need are a set of feeler gauges for setting the valves and a valve spring compressor if you want to replace the valve seals. Just your normal metric hand tools will take everything else off.

Hello 4 wheeler doctor, I have a few questions I'd like to run by you.... 1st how much would you charge to do a job like this? 2nd someone wants to sell me a 2010 Honda trx680 Rincon but it won't go into any of the gears, is it even worth the time, money and effort for a bike with 3400 miles on it? 3rd would 2000-2500 be paying to much if I did decide to take on this project? Thank you

Most Honda rebuilds usually average around $1000 parts and labor. I usually try to stay away from Rincons with transmission trouble because the problem offen times is the non serviceable Hondamatic unit which are very expensive to replace. If it won't move when in gear, then it may be the unit but if the shifter physically won't move then the problem may be easier to fix. In my opinion I would say $2k is too much because you could end up with more in it than it's worth if the transmission is shot.

Exalant. I have a problem with the transmission shifting into reverse. At this point it just grinds. Do you think it would be worth my time to pull the motor to acess the torque converter and the gears or fight with it in place? You make it look so easy using one hand and hold a camera with the other.

Have you tried adjusting the shift cable? Lowering the idle will also help it shift.
