I had several C90's as a kid and ragged them around the woods! At 54 I have just bought another and I love it! I own a Vespa GTS300 and adore that machine too, but the Supercub will be used more as my commuter and popping into Town bike! 2 weeks ago I was lucky to find a 2019 model, with just 256 miles on it! A few mods will take place though, mirrors already changed, seat cushion/cover going on today as I am 6 feet tall and need to sit further back! Single Gear lever on its way, but apart from that I probably will not do much more to it, as it is perfect for the back roads of Kent!

Never under-rate step thrus. I lived in Laos for eight years and bought a brand new locally made step thru for 724usd (with helmet and jacket thrown in). That was 2007. I put 32,000 klms on it before leaving the country with no issues. I rode it rain, hail and shine, and rode the pants off it. A step thru is the best urban/city transport I've ever owned, bar none. I ordered a Super Cub C125 this week as a second bike to scoot around town on.

How does the shifting work on this bike? Toe tap to ascend gears 1-4 and heel to go back down like old supercubs or toe lift to go up gears? That could explain the difference with the gear shifter between different countries versions?

Sounds like it could use one more gear but probably safer that it doesn't. I had my old Honda 90 up to 70mph in 1968 and the RPMs were high enough that I couldn't hear it. Needed engine work after that so lucky it didn't seize up. The performance drops way off in head winds, so much so that on a trip in Scotland it took me so long to reach my destination I fell asleep "at the wheel" due to hypothermia as the temperature dropped and woke up about 100feet above the road with trees whizzing by on one side and the road down below on the other side. I steered towards the road and when the front wheel hit it I was catapulted along the road about 20 yards. Other than a bent foot peg the bike was OK. I started it up again and completed the rest of my journey. To me my Honda meant freedom and, since it looked like a regular bike, no shortage of female companionship. I think it will take more than this latest Honda to recapture that time now that I am aged 70 but I'm going to buy one and give it a try.

For anyone in Australia and interested, Honda Australia are bringing these C125 Super Cubs in again for 2020. Only comes in red now and will have a rear rack, passenger pegs AND a side stand as standard. Just under 7k ride away as of May 2020 on the Honda AU website (no mention of limited run either).

Also interesting is the change to the labelling under the seat and on the tyre pressure label: The 2020 model lists weight limit as 2 persons =150 kg. Tyre pressures label lists pressures for 1 or 2 person load. Does this mean the 2020 bike has heavier duty rear suspension?

They will be discontinuing the C125 in Australia due to legislation requiring ABS on both wheels. Dealer told me Honda says Australia is not a big enough market to make the Cub compliant to the new rules. So get one while you you still can. I got mine about 6 weeks ago and love it.

This Super Cub is a LIMITED RELEASE, a commemorative edition to the first Super Cub in 1958. This bike was made to look like that 1958 Super Cub, that is in Honda's Museum in Japan. (The 1958 bike had similar two-tone blue colors and a red solo seat.) Here it is in the Honda Museum: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Super_Cub#/media/File:Honda_super_cub,_1st_Gen._1958,_Left_side.jpg Yeah, this all made me want THIS Super Cub all the more. I debated parking it in my den and just staring at it instead of watching TV.

The downshifts will become much smoother if you only depress the lever enough to disengage the clutch, then blip the throttle to match the revs, before finally depressing the lever all the way to engage the lower gear.

I got mine last Saturday. Paid full retail (no dickering on these bikes). But the Honda dealer didn't price gouge either. (Honda's website said $3600 U.S. was SUGGESTED RETAIL, that prices in your locale may be a lot higher). I live in San Francisco, California. My local dealer is the only one who had them available. I read that for the entire U.S. Honda is importing only 250 of these. I also read that this 1958 look-alike, inspired Super Cub is a supposed LIMITED release. Honda is making these for only one year. I have no idea if that's accurate.

*Very nice vid!* I have to say I think the 'Aussie' version seems short-changed w/no 'rear-rack' though...and I think the turn-signals are *WAY* too small by American standards! So is that tiny rear-brake light! (if it were mine, I'd be really 'jumpy' in traffic w/such small lights!) The engine seems much smoother and 'pulling strong' compared to the '68 I had from new that I rode every day for three-years, 14 to almost 17...though mine was 90cc which was the 'big engine' then for the 'Super Cub'. (I don't like that chrome-surround on the speedo...looks like it would be 'flashing' in sunlight all the time!) *I DO like the fairing being a 'Robin-egg' blue instead of 'bone-white' like they always are* It looks much better! (I could almost fit a 'family of 4 plus dog & cat' under the saddle of my '08 "Metropolitan' plus the optional wire-basket behind the fairing! Honda seems to have 'dropped the ball' on storage for *anything* on the new '2.0' version of the "Super-Cub" (on the other hand, my '68 had no storage either!) *At almost 65 I think my scooter and I will be 'together for life' because I have no intentions of ever letting it go* (it's such a pleasure to ride...like a 'baby Cadillac on two-wheels) A few minor performance upgrades...and my 'Metro' hits 42mph...not bad w/a 225lb. rider on it! Plus a ton of groceries! (get a windscreen if you can for your 'Cub'...it will boost your speed up by three to five 'mph' with no other mods at all! The screen is much better at laminar air-flow than your chest) Best of Luck w/your new ride! I'm jealous!

Planning to be geraldton's first deliveroo rider? Jokes apart, I was really expecting it to be able to sit at 100km/hr at a push, the brand hwy is no place for such a bike though. The clutch in the bike will work as soon as you go into an engine braking condition, so you don't need to let the throttle all the way off before shifting. I guess you're just giving it an easy run in now though. The rack will be great for storing your lock, I'm worried with a small bike that you can throw it in the back of a ute and drive off, which is less possible with a 750 or so.

I just got my Super Cub last Saturday. Now looking for accessories, including a rack. From what I have seen, your best bet to find a blue rear rack is to check parts sellers in Asia. Also check eBay sellers in Asia, such as Thailand and Japan. Other than that, you may have to buy a rack and have it professionally painted, or do it yourself. Note: I have seen aluminum, black plastic, and chrome plated racks. Any one of those may be more receptive to paint. Might cost you U.S. $100 to have an auto body shop color match the paint and apply the paint to the rack. Plus the cost of the rack, might be $250 to $300 to get that blue rack you covet. (Then again, you might luck out and find an Japan eBay seller listing one for $50!)

Great video. I'm on the fence on putting a deposit down on one. I've got an '81 70cc in excellent physical and mechanical condition. The only thing that drives me crazy about it is how useless 1st gear is... and how gutless it is on any hill climb. Other than that it's perfect. How is 1st gear on the 2019? It sounds almost similar where your shifting to 2nd almost immediately. Thanks for the video, great to see it vs all the promotional vids that all seem the same.

I got mine last Saturday. I live in San Francisco (read: lots of hills). Have owned hundreds of scooters and motorcycles since age 17. In comparison, first gear on this Super Cub 125 is quite nice. Has lots of torque, and plenty of power for hills. You need first gear to get this bike going (starting to move in 2nd is too slushy or "laggy"). But after getting moving you have to quickly shift to second. IMO this bike is pretty quick moving about town. (Note: This bike is a blast to ride and looks fantastic tooling down the road. It is a cool feeling knowing everyone is staring in admiration and wonderment. Your peripheral vision will get a workout as you stare at people staring at you. It is a hoot seeing helmeted riders turning in your direction. And mark my words, EVERYONE looks at this extremely rare bike. I live in San Francisco, there's probably three of these in town, if that. The only Honda dealer in town, where I got mine, said it is getting two per month, a total of maybe five bikes this year.)

@@FoundingKZbinr I agree, I bought mine 2 months ago and I've had many bikes but the comments I get on this is brilliant. It's a bit slow but that's because I jump off bigger bikes. I like it and I really wanted one but 55 MPH, is a deal breaker here in the states, you need something 60 MPH plus on non-highway, freeway roads. 55 MPH will get you killed, unless your in a city, it cannot work. Honda, needs a similar form factor with more displacement, 225-250 cc range.

Honda didn't design this bike for riding on freeways. In fact, here in California at 125cc these are not allowed on freeways (an engine has to be 150cc + to go on freeways). These small bikes are for around town conducting business, commuting to work, or local pleasure riding. Even if this had a 150cc engine I would NOT ride it on the freeway. I live in San Francisco. Bay Area freeways are like in Los Angeles, car drivers feel it is a constitutional right to haul ass at least 10 MPH over posted speed limits. (E.g., when on a 65 MPH road, cars pass Highway Patrol cars at 75 mph. Our state is OK with this because it needs to keep traffic moving.) Anyway, a bike or scooter struggling to get to and maintain 60-70 MPH doesn't stand a chance on our freeways. Low HP, no residual power to get out of a jam, small tires that don't handle well potholes or road debris, light weight which means a strong wind will blow this bike about the road, annoyed car drivers who look at you as in their way, all contribute to these small bikes (and many scooters) should be considered persona non grata on freeways, even if legal to be on those roads. Truth be told, in all my years of riding cars, motorcycles, and scooters, I have only once in 40 years of driving seen a putt-putt scooter in the slow lane on the freeway. I still remember that scene. Cars racing past the scooter, it struggling in the slow lane at about 60 mph (I was in a car, I clocked his speed). The rider looked frightened, his windbreaker flapping about in the wind, my concluding he had accidentally ventured on to the freeway or didn't have a choice getting from Point A to Point B.

@@FoundingKZbinr I sat on one of these back 4 weeks ago and it felt like a toy in comparison to a scooter in the 150cc range. I'm not a big person 5'9" and I felt like I dwarfed it IMHO any person would be better off with a Piaggio Liberty 150 or something similar more features for the price. Don't get me wrong I think this is a neat product but its a product designed and sold for a SE Asia but imported with a price that doesn't merit what your getting. My own girlfriend who is easy to impress wasn't impressed, her response no storage, no rack, no windshield, no passenger pegs. I have to agree with her. If Italy can do better why buy this product, I don't think it will succeed without a few options included.

To be honest i really think we are all guilty of looking at this motor-cycle through rose tinted glasses because its 1. Honda 2. it takes after our beloved C90 but really the only thing this bike has in common with our old 90 is it is a Honda ...Come on guys the C90 could pull 2-up all day at around 50 MPH and never miss a beat+it had a carrier you could fit for next to nothing...but mainly it was "Affordable" ..oh and it had a perfect kick starter...

I was told by my Honda dealer that is whey they are not selling in number sin the U.K. A big marker is to hang them on the back of RV's but of course only having one seat puts buyers off. That's fine by me, the rarer it is the better prices will be used!

silverbird58 the honda grom is a two seater and uses the same engine. The reason why is a single may be because of the single channel ABS. In EU a 125cc motorcycle and above must have ABS as standard , if not then it must be a single seater.

So the Australian version is the same as the EU version, they are don’t come with the luggage rack as standard. I wished the put a standard key instead of the FOB and put a kick start and luggage as standard. The FOB key is way overkill and kinda useless for this Cub.

Did Honda import more of them? I got mine as soon as it was available at the end of last year and there were only 72 of them. But back in May, I saw one sitting in the Honda dealer in Darwin, so maybe there are still a few not sold. In other countries there is a red one and maybe also black, I can't remember now.

Okay, but as we know most motorcycle plate holders cater to the size plate you'll find in other states, like NSW, QLD:, Vic: etc. . The only other country where the number plates are even bigger than our car and truck plates is the UK. That said, I enjoyed watching your video, as I'm seriously considering the Cub when the Mrs. and I retire overseas next year. It's a toss up between it and the 2019 model Honda 125cc Air Blade scooter. Sadly though, this model variant is only released to Vietnam at present. To see it, Google 2019 Honda Air Blade. Best video walkarounds are by Wave XSG, as they're set to some good soundtracks, whereas the others are reviewed in the Vietnamese language. The real standout are the two-tone blue/silver and red/silver versions, plus the super cool graphics that surround the badging and name, on these two colours. There are of course black editions to cater to other tastes, but my choice would be the blue. Let me know what you think. I even sent an email to Honda Corporate, Philippines, saying that the Air Blade would do exceptionally well in other World markets, as it looks that good. All the best, ride safe, cheers...

I hadn't heard of the Air Blade. It looks decent for a modern scooter, but I wouldn't buy one. I mych prefer the retro style of the Super Cub
@davidhamilton506
@davidhamilton506 5 жыл бұрын
Well, the Air Blade is not available in Australia to begin with, and whether they'll import them in the future is anybody's guess. As of this point in time, my local Honda Dealer, said that before they import them, they'll need to be ADR compliant . For me, that's not a problem as I'm only waiting until I'm living overseas before buying one, and Honda has informed me if I'm living in the Phils, the local Honda Dealer there can import one from Vietnam. But, I do like retro, so I'm serious about a Cub as well. Have one of each will solve that. Actually moneywise, I believe the Cub is more expensive than the Air Blade. In Aussie dollar terms, the Air blade is Aprox: $2500.00, depending on the exchange rate at the time. The Cub, I'm yet to inquire what it's price here in OZ is, but in the US, I heard it's somewhere near $3500 to $4000, which would make it a little more expensive here, given our exchange rate with the US. Like I say, I'm into retro and love what the Triumph Bonneville, Honda CB1100, Royal Enfield Interceptor, and a few others, including the Honda Super Cub are doing. Anyhow, nice chatting with you, cheers and stay safe...

This bike is overpriced. I'm grateful that there are several underbone bikes to choose from (honda, yamaha & other brands) here in my country (I'm from Malaysia btw). I own honda dash 125 which uses the same engine like this supercub but with sporty body design (similar to yamaha t135). I guess my dash 125 is a bit better in performance than this supercub. Can get 110 kmh top speed & can cruise on highway at 90 to 100 kmh no prob. Plus, it has underseat storage too. And it cost only 1550 usd compared to 3600 usd for the supercub c125.. Most people here would rather buy honda rs150r (also known as honda winner 150) rather than this supercub..
@Lvaneede
@Lvaneede 5 жыл бұрын
I have been told the Grom also performs better, like the Dash youre talking about. Im guessing the extra size and weight slows down the Super Cub a bit. As for the price, for what it is, the Super Cub is definitely overpriced in Australia. But it is a limited edition here (only 72 of them in the country), so I was happy enough to pay it. I already have a larger bike, so I dont mind the Super Cub being a little bit slow.
@dinblitzsturm90
@dinblitzsturm90 5 жыл бұрын
@@Lvaneede I guess the supercub is indeed overpriced nearly everywhere. Here in Malaysia, underbone bikes are extremely popular & become primary choice of daily commute for most people. Hence, the supercub is easily overshadowed by other better underbone bikes especially the 150cc category with affordable price range. Anyway, Honda marketed the supercub as a premium cub, but it will hardly sell with stiff competition from other underbone bikes here. I do like the supercub though since I have my own childhood nostalgia with it, but at that price it will just be a dream... Sad though, but at least my dash 125 is indeed a great daily commute so far. Fuel efficient & cheap maintenance.. What's not to like from a honda cub? Hehe
