I just bought a new 2019 Turbo 4S, but if Honda had offered a competing model I would given it a good looking at. I've had Honda off road stuff all my life and think they make a great product. I do agree the DCE is MILES ahead of the belt system used by everyone else (except Yamaha) and think in the future the HP wars will require something like that instead of the belt. Thanks for sharing your video.

Titantramp4u There are pros and cons to each make. The talon with the turbo kit puts out 150-155whp, far more than anything Polaris makes. The canam with 195crank HP is in the 150whp range as well. The cvt fro Polaris & canam looses about 30% hp from the crank to the wheels and the talon losses about 13%. That’s a huge difference, but nobody looks at whp, only crank hp and that’s very deceiving.
@Titantramp4u
@Titantramp4u 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with the HP, but is an aftermarket kit that needs to be installed and HP wasn't the only issue for me. The Turbo S comes with not only factory 32" tires, but all the suspension, drivetrain, clutch, and brake up grades which again would have to be bought and installed, and finally I'm a pure desert guy here in Southern California and liked the stability of the 72" width.... None of this makes the Honda any less, but none of this is offered on the Honda....yet :)

Titantramp4u Very true. That’s one big disadvantage with Honda. There isn’t a huge variety like Polaris. Honda is like, here, chose a pioneer or talon. I have $40k Into my talon with me installing everything, I couldn’t imagine if I had to pay for all the installs. So there’s some definite advantages to the Polaris side. I do use 28’s on the track, so either way I need two sets of tires & wheels.

Honest vids as always👍 Just brought my Talon R back to dealer with a case claim. Bought at the end of September and just reached 176 miles on it. At 80 miles I heard the most awful non-engagement and grind for a few seconds in 4Low. Stopped and went to neutral...then to 4high and all was well. Short 15 min trip home...check of fluids and yup...sub-Tran fluid was low...a quick view on KZbin and saw this was common from “factory” and commonly not addressed from “dealers”. Immediately went to dealer...made them aware and purchased all the 100 mile break in components and performed the service. Due to work schedules haven’t been on a long ride yet...only the short rips and 20-40 min therapy sessions..did the same non-engagement/ grind around 120 miles...same thing..stopped and went to high..manual back to low...repeated at the same thing at around 175 miles..hence she’s going back...will keep you posted. I love the Rig...just for no more use than this Rig has gotten...don’t wanna be that guy with with that one...and while I’m in time and miles gonna make the look hard and build my confidence. I know your prepping your Rig for a long Adventure man..so first question is if you have looked into the end caps and nitrogen fill on the Fox shocks...there has been a lot of attention brought to the leak down and I swear my driver front is low low...is this something you will be looking into before you head out. And as always looking for your turbo updates? Thanks again and best of luck on your Rig!

Honda Talon Owner Hey Dude....can’t wait till I see the Turbo update...looks like soon!! Get my Talon back tomorrow...gotta give American Honda Power-sports props for the professionalism in the manner of handling my issue. Contacted me, and the dealer. They offered Tech assistance, formed me a Case#, had them scope out the Sub-Transmission to make sure there was no internal damage. They determined the linkage was just right at the minimum of engagement in 4 low and adjusted it. They assure me the issue is resolved. I hope it’s happy trails for all...and am enquiring as to how to place the Turbo order when I go there tomorrow 👍

I put 7k miles on my talon after I put different tires on it without a problem. 32x9.5 all the way around. If you measure the factory tires, they are different heights from front to rear even though they are all 28’s. I think that’s causing the ujoint problem.

Honda Talon Turbo Owner I needed up finding a dealer an hour away that said they could get me right in. I was scared to order that 338 u joint because I have a place in my area called shaft masters and they do all custom drive shafts and work like that. He told me not to try it because those would not fit exactly how the ones factory do and that I would have more future issues. I also asked him if he could make me something completely bulletproof and custom he said he could but it would be very pricy so I opted for the warranty repair myself. Those press in caps are junk. looking at the clip issue on these ujoints might be a good idea for owners to go and put jb weld or similar on the clip/cap just to keep clip from coming off...if its an internal clip or pressed then jb weld should still help on the cap portion...I bet these ujoints can be replaced...honda crv drive shafts have the same non replacement issue but there are ujoints that can be replaced on them if someone pursues that..

Robert Hendrickson When I ride with Polaris and canams, they have went through numerous belts while riding with me. For example, I pulled a tacoma 6 miles with my talon, up and down hills. A belt would not survive that. There’s obviously advantages to a cvt and a dct, but I definitely prefer a dct mostly for reliability and only losing 12% of HP from the crank to the wheels. Most cvt’s lose 20-30% hp from the crank to wheels.

first thing belts blowing on na machines is not a problem. you get well over 2000 miles of hard riding before you can detect wear. second thing the belts are only 100 bucks all day long. upgraded g force belts are only 120.00 i bought one as a spare still haven't needed it. as far as driveshafts and carriers yes polaris has had some problems with phasing and rubber grommets wearing out but they usually last about 2000 miles easy and you replace with a 150.00 super atv model and your good for a long time. 2700 miles is not bad for your first breakdown but its not uncommon for any sxs to do this. lets not give honda too much credit. just another Asian sxs that costs 3 grand more than a comparable American model that has to be maintained too. as far as extended warranties go dont bother. just save your money and fix yourself. most those places just have 19 yearold kids that can barely change oil.im sure the talons are good machines but me and 50,000 other people with 5 year old canams and rzrs aren't going to go trade in a perfectly good proven machine for one that might be as good released 8 years later. i said it once and ill say it again. honda came out swinging for a base hit. that thing has the desighn and innovation of an xp900. the 900 came out almost 10 years ago.

Nathon Smithson The belt will last according to the driving. I have never lasted 2k miles on one belt. The other issues with belts is controlling the temp inside the belt housing and keep water or sand out of it. It’s just not the belt, Polaris especially has a ton of clutch issues. Maybe your belt is a $100, but many out there are in the $200 price range. The talon is not comparable to a 10 yr old Polaris, that’s absolutely ridiculous.

Agree, Honda has been a favorite brand for quads but they arrived light years late. CanAm and Polaris will not be surpassed by Honda in the SXS market, despite any perceived weaknesses, most of which don’t even occur with reasonable maintenance and proper handling. None of these are tanks but people drive them like they are, thus all the failures you see people posting. My XP4T is less than a year old and has logged trips to sand dunes, jumps, wide open drag racing etc...no issues and looks like new bc I maintain it and don’t take it in deep mud. All of these should last 8-10k miles if cared for, no matter what brand.

@gravesru
@gravesru 4 жыл бұрын
Toby Mattson it all depends on how you drive it. If you pull a Tacoma 6 miles like I did, your belt would not survive. Secondly, it’s not just about belts, most have clutch issues, especially the ones with higher HP. So they spend $1400 on an aftermarket clutch. With a dct, you don’t have to be constantly careful with how you drive or what you pull in order to save your belt. Plus, a dct only loses 12% hp from the crank to the wheels and a cvt loses 25-30%.

Ben Gavins Yes, at least 3 belts. I pulled a Tacoma 6 miles, which would kill a belt after few hundred yards. During extreme driving, people go through belts quickly, and Polaris is notorious for clutch issues on top of it. I also know people who drive very moderately (mostly senior citizens) who can make a belt last for thousands of miles. That’s why I said, if I had a cvt, I would’ve went through at least 3 belts.

Most people l know go 5000 to 10000 miles on belts , to have a driveline issue at 2700 miles l would not be happy. You should probably replace them all.

John Nelson Here’s something to think about. The belt or clutch isn’t covered under warranty if you have a cvt. Polaris is notorious for clutch issues and everyone I know replaces the clutch for an aftermarket one before 2k miles at around $1400. The Honda driveline, clutches and transmission are under warranty. I’ve rode with a Polaris and he went through two belts in one day. Maybe you can go 10k miles on a belt, but not the way I/we drive.

@@jasonbell4670 it's simple ,if the wheels not turning the belt is BURNING. Take off quickly or no slow long take off. Use low gear bellow 10 mph , on hills and loading and unloading. And always a good break in a new belt. Form 1999 to now I have never had a problem with a belt.
