Demonstration of how I mounted a 1 gal RotoPax gas canister on the Trail 125, and some other comments about some accessories and how I've beaten up this bike so far at 300 miles
I promise to make more interesting videos in the future, this is a response to a comment question on my prior video regarding mounting the canister

Having ridden these types of Honda 125cc thumpers for two decades including what is my current daily driver, the biggest con is the vibration. Those rubber things on the foot mounts are there to ease some of that vibration.

Thank you, friend! I'm starting my own Moto You Tube channel "Johnny Pow Rides" which will be mostly motorcycle content. When it warms up hope to get some content going, just a couple starter videos so far. And yes - the Roto Pax was used a couple times on the TAT. But we got incredible gas economy out there. Probably because of the low speeds and sometimes long downhill descents.

The stock tires di surprisingly well! as far as the gas can - I used it the first day but on the second two I had the range to make it to gas stations to refuel. After I do the TAT I'll probably get rid of the Roto-pax setup

I'm tall too. I lost the heel-toe lever and replaced with a toe shifter only. Much better for me. I'm going to remove the kick starter lever, cap the shaft and figure out an on board stoage solution for the lever itself. My height and big feet have made me modify the geometry. Love this thing. @@NitwitMN no pun intended. The heel shifter is practical especially for large size shoes as you stay ove the controls this way and just press either with the toe or with the heel.. The lever needs to be straighten a bit so it doesn't have that much curvature. Then your foot will have place to miss the heell shilf and slide back. Straight from the factory is for size 6 US and my lever is modified but kept the concept as it makes a lot of sense for this bike.

A quirky little 125 here - never really thought about them as an off-road touring platform, but you might be on to something. John, do you still have your TL125 and do you still do vintage trials events? We met about 20 years ago, riding TL's in STRA events, with David Reynolds (who recent passed away).
@evergeendata
@evergeendata Жыл бұрын
I am very saddened to hear that David passed away. I have thought about him from time to time as I've now gotten back into motorcycles. I remember you were his riding buddy. I no longer have my TL125 - I traded it for a Triumph Cub which is what I rode vintage trial on for the last few years I was doing it. I stopped in 2009. I still have the Cub and plan to make it a winter project to get it running again and maybe get back into trials next year. Follow me on my "new" youtube channel "JohnnyPowRides" which is where I've been posting all my motorcycle stuff for the past year. Also the TAT trip and the SM500 before that we did back in 2021 are on my buddy's channel called "SomeGuyRides" check those out also. Thanks for saying hi

@@evergeendata Good to hear back from you. Sounds like your cycle odyssey has continued in various, unique forms. That Cub was no joke to compete with, I'm guessing. What a cool bike! I'm now getting myself back into it - just went to the Barber vintage trials event in October, and now hunting for an good, early-'80's BMW R100 for sport touring purposes. Yeah, the cancer hit Dave kind of fast. We thought he might pull out of it with the experimental therapies he was taking, but then he unexpectedly nosedived about a month ago. I ended up getting his extensive cycle book library bequeathed to me. I will certainly subscribe to your other channels! Keep the adventures rolling - quite inspiring!!

@@dachu134 That's so sad to hear. I hope to see you again next year! And that's funny my old road bike which I loved so much and rode so much was a R100 airhead. Mine was kind of a mixed up built bike - was I guess closest to a R100T - the frame was 77 but motor '81. Excellent workhorse. I had the plastic panniers I think they were Krauser or Hence Becker (I forget). My first big mountain rides and camping on that bike. Did you ride at Barber or just spectate? Also - I ran into Peggy this past summer who I expect you might remember. She is apparently still riding. Hope to catch up again later. - JF

@@JohnnyPowRides Wow, Peggy, yes - good to recall her - I appreciated her tenacity as a racer, and always envied her Elsinore. Hope she is doing good, and still racing! Sounds like your airhead was a one-of-a-kind game-changer for your life adventure trajectories. And totally, we ought to intersect next year at Barber. It was my son actually who rode the event this year since we only had one trials bike (I wanted to ask if I could borrow Dave's TL, but...felt too close to his last days). You'd enjoy meeting/hanging out with some of the other fellows in our age bracket who compete there. You'd enjoy meeting Eric and his crew from Nashville (from the Ton-Up Club). He's a music scene photographer. It's a very complete On-Any-Sunday-like scenario there in the pits; timeless. Also I have a great old snap-shot photo of you, me and Dave that Danielle Howle took and passed along from like 20 years ago up at an STRA event, on our TL's. Do you have a digital copy of that one?

Nah man it's a trail 125. Needs a strong backbone. Same.exact size but twice the engine. Change things to reduce maintenance and increase longevity ease of maintenance. Throw in some high milage knobby tires and take it round the globe. You could do it at 125 cc but you'll be going 40 a lot of the time once you're loaded. I'd rather go through USA at 5 over the speed limit on all the interstates my man. You only live once, don't let it be at 40 miles per hour the whole way haha. Grom needs the rebel 300 engine. Find unique ways to increase fuel capacity a bit in all of them but have most of the components stay the exact same if possible. 125 is great and super affordable but man a 300 would hold up longer and drive farther more comfortably in traffic. Grom is really not an interstate capable vehicle but it should be. Find a way to get the trail 125 luggage to carry over 40 pounds of possible. Every pound counts when you're at that level. The dax with a 300 would rip bro. They already do but I mean that sucker would rip. The rebel already has it where they have the same frame for multiple engines. I want the mini moto size but not the miniature engine. I gotta be able to go 60 up a hill just to get to the town next to mine man! A trail 125 that could go 80 would be killer. A Grom that could go 85 all day long and up a hill, would be killer
