Yes well you 'went in hard' on the Transalp initially, but had more positive things to say as the video went on. I must say the bike affected me the same way. But after 61 years of riding (and over 50 years of working on bikes) I went ahead and bought the Honda, largely because of its relatively light weight, and in spite of knowing much of your crticisms (and agreeing with most of them). And I have to say the bike is better than I thought initially. Yes, the suspension is 'low rent', but many will buy it (with its killer price) knowing that, and prepared to spend a little in this area. I found that reversing the handlebar risers, which moves the bars slightly forward on the top triple tree, makes the steering feel more 'natural'. I find the standing up position fine, at just ver 5' 9", and much better than my previous 'adventure bike', but the longer/wider optional 'bear grip' footpegs will make the standing up less 'bow-legged'. They also sit slightly lower. I have those pegs coming (included in the price, as the first purchaser of the model here) but can stand comfortably as is, as I have skinny legs! Yes, the delightful Aprilia is MUCH better off-road, no question, but is about $7,000 more than the ride-away $15,740 the Honda costs in Australia. But the Honda isn't a trail bike - it is a dirt road bike, and actually not bad at doing that. About 700 of the almost-3,000 kms I have done on mine so far have been on dirt roads, and the original Dunlop tyres aren't even that bad. But yes - the bike needs coarser tyres and some suspension work to be better in this setting, for sure. But the new Transalp 'is what it is', and no-one is seriously suggesting it competes with the Aprilia or the T7 in serious off-road use. But it is far better than either of those on the sealed roads we go on before we get to the dirt. Surprisingly good. And yes, it is no doubt the case that Honda have intentionally kept it short of their big Africa Twin flagship, because - well - they want to sell lots of bikes! Let us be under no illusions there. But the Transalp is surprisingly good in its designed application, which is sealed and unsealed ROADS. Not trails. As I have said in answer to these observations before; if we're going serious trail riding, I won't be bringing a 750. But with tyres and suspension work, it will easily get the weary traveller to a hidden away camping spot.

First of all the Transalp is not an off road bike. It is a 60-40 bike. 60% pavement 40% gravel. Will there be a youtube video that mentions not only Transalp resets TC after turning off the engine but all of them. All modern bikes do the same. Even Tenere does that. It is the law. It is not something that Honda imagined to be a good feature. About cruise control. I had an Africa Twin ... I used cruise control once and never again. I am not saying that CC is a useless thing. I am just saying that arguing about the lack of CC in every video is just non sense.

I only found the rear shock on the Transalp needed changed out for something like a TracTive rear and wow it is a game changer for sure, the Transalp 750 out handles my Tuareg 660 and I found the Tuareg 660 feeling very wallowy on the road, and after I dialed in the suspension the Transalp 750 is way better on and off road than the Tuareg 660. I'm selling my Tuareg 660 I think.

You have created an honest review on Transalp, but in my opinion you are starting from the wrong place. HONDA created the Transalp as a tall utility vehicle. He didn't want to create a little African twin. Transalp existed for years, it wanted to create a better Transalp. And he succeeded. The Transalp audience (which includes me) want a capable motorcycle on the road, in the city and on smooth dirt roads. Watch the sales in the next period and you will be convinced, that the public (who gives their money) wants a motorcycle like this. Thank you for your time.

I didn't say the bike is bad. And about old Transalps, each generation was more and more road-focused. Bringing back 21" - mistake imo. No need for tube 21” wheels for "smooth dirt roads".
@kostasPapadakis
@kostasPapadakis Жыл бұрын
@@adv-moto I got it, you thing that the 21 wheel was a mistake. I do not care, i wanted a steady bike on the highway and I got it. Every week I ride to gravel roads, it can be done. And I thing that any 350 cc dirt bike, will crush any adventure bike. So, everyone will buy according to his/her needs.

Great video! Have you looked at the vstrom 800RE that just got released? A lot of people like adv bikes as tourers with nice fairing for wind protection etc and this seems to fill the mid sized niche.
@adv-moto
@adv-moto Жыл бұрын
Not yet. But I really liked the character of the engine on the 800 DE, and I was happy that the 800 RE (called 800 Tech in Spain) a lot cheaper than the DE. So I'm waiting for a long test.
@podunkman2709
@podunkman2709 Жыл бұрын
The 800RE inherits the good features of the 800DE (engine, rear suspension) and probably the bad ones (vibrations and cooking of the right leg). Unfortunately, they went too far towards the "road" side with this bike; the seat is too low (didn't they make it thinner at the expense of comfort?), the suspension travel is a bit too small, the knee is more bent. And this motorcycle is still very heavy. If you realistically assess the value of RE, it is more expensive than DE.
@adv-moto
@adv-moto Жыл бұрын
@podunkman2709 If you subtract the RE ground clearance from the DE, there will be the difference in seat height. Ergo is the same. DE - 230 kg, RE - 223 kg. For road oriented bike it's not that important, a bit heavier than the V-Strom 650, Versys 650, NC750X, etc. Price. DE in Spain - € 11,800, RE/Tech - € 10,700. According to the photos I see that DE have extra accessories - hand and engine protection (both without crash bars), but it is inexpensive and not everyone needs, but RE/Tech have high screen.

Honda really missed the ball on this one. They should have made two versions if they really wanted to compete with the T7; the same way Triumph has a GT and Rally Tiger, but somone at Honda is too prideful for the African Twin, as that would easily cut into those sales. I'm wondering now if by putting custom 19in tubeless front and rear, getting the Tour tech 25+mm suspension would even the bike out and make it more of an ADV bike it should have been. Hopefully an ECU flash will fix any throttle hickups as well. At this current state it really is a useless bike as it doesnt do well in the dirt but then you're stuck with those terrible 21in tubed so can't put proper road tires. Smh Honda , what the heck.

I really like your videos and honest opinions 😊 It's a rarity because all these "reviews" are worth shit - either the materials are sponsored, or the recording person is afraid to say negative things because he won't receive any more motorcycles later, or he doesn't ride for long, or he's simply ignorant. I see Transalp exactly as you described. This is absolutely not an "off-road" motorcycle. Stop asking these stupid questions "Transalp or Tenere?". The Tansalp suspension is budget - for example, it is strange that there is no rebound adjustment in the rear shock absorber (this will have a greater negative effect the heavier you are). Transalp is a good bike but mind the limits.

I don't want to do a review of a bike I don't like. I rode it for a few days. It is almost a complete copy of the Versys, but the suspension is worse, the engine with vibrations and twitches, the plastic can rattle. There is no appreciable difference between 650MT and 700MT. Whether it's worth price difference with the Versys - I don't have a definite answer.

@@adv-moto Thank you for your reply. I was conflicted whether i should buy a new bike or a used one. I currently have a Suzuki Bandit 650 2005 Naked and i want something newer with more features. CF MOTO is 6.500 euro brand new and a used good bike (like a Honda or Kawasaki) is about the same and its 15 years old with 80.000 Kilometres. I want a Sport Touring bike so i can travel more. But like you said Chinese bikes feel Cheap and unreliable but i also have a small budget. I dont know what to do.....

Test rode this bike for an hour , on bumpy back road bitumen and smooth freeway . Very balanced bike , feels low to the ground even if it is 850mm seat height . In Australia sold with 90 HP , it goes well. Looks to me similar to a KLR 650 at certain angles . It doesn’t weigh 230 kg , it is 208 kg wet . I own a Versys 650, if it had a 19 inch or 21 inch front wheel , re routed exhaust , and revised steering geometry it would be decent off road , hence looking at the Transalp. The off road ability is decent , just turn the traction control off , and use kill switch not key in the bush.

The Transalp can reach 200km/h (125mph) in fourth gear easy. If you want an offroad motorcycle is not the Transalp neither de Teneré. Get an enduro motorcycle.

That's exactly what I'm saying. A "ROAD motorcycle" doesn't need a 21" tire with inner tube, even for "light offroad". And quotes from the model's page: "A chassis that delivers light on-road handling plus off-road control" "On a dirt track, around town or out on the open road, this engine is tuned for the versatile performance you need."
