It’s a great bike. I traded my cruiser CTX1300 for this and it’s opened a whole new world to me. I’m digging the gravel and dirt roads near me in Western North Carolina. I’m 74. I’m fragile and need to be careful. But damn it’s fun.

Have had mine here in the UK, for 5 days now. 300 miles in. I’m in love and cannot wait each day to ride her. Swapped my 2024 plate NC750X for better handling, better suspension and comfortable seat. I added the quick shift, centre stand, heated grips, touring screen and rad guard for looks as I’m no off roader. Mine is the Red, White and Blue vintage style which for me is the Transalp colours from yesteryear.

Excellent review. As usual. You have a knack for anticipating potential queries. I think that comes from your test rides being serious, thoughtful work, not ‘ride it like you stole it’ playtime. Well done!

I ❤ my TA, been on two weekenders and about 300 miles each. Finally got my Givi side bags in so I can extend my trips a bit. Youre right, mostly two lane paved roads on my list so far, but the access roads I have taken are no problem. Thanks for the review.

I took my TA from Calgary through Banff then down to Portland and down the coast to northern California and then back through central Oregon and Washington for about 4,300 KM over 7 days. I had already added the Veridian cruise which was a wrist saver. I didn't think I needed it when I ordered but found after a couple hours my wrist started to get sore and after 7+ it was painful so the cruise was so worthwhile. I tried to avoid the Interstates with their 70mph speed limits and 80+mph traffic but for the most part the TA cruised along happily for hours at this pace when I needed to cover longer distances or there wasn't a reasonable alternative. The stock Metzler's did great on the pavement and little bit of rain I had to deal with and at 9,000 KM now still have life left. Over the 7 days the fuel consumption hovered around 65 MPG so I would get 400+ KM out of a full tank but would normally fill whenever it dipped below half. One issue I noticed is the fuel gauge has six segments but the first and last segment equate to a bit over a gallon of gasoline with the remaining 4 split up over the remaining 2.5 gallons. Something to keep in mind so once the first segment goes you're at about 3/4 of a tank and when you get to the last segment you've still got about a quarter tank of gas, I never had the gas warning light come on. I heard people complaining about the seat comfort which I found great for the first 2 hours after 4 I'd need to stretch frequently and by 6+ a few little walks and frequent stretches were necessary. I had meant to try using my padded bicycle shorts under my riding pants but of course forgot to bring them. I've been now looking at the Seat Concepts or Corbin seat options although day to day the seat is great

Thanks for that comprehensive comment. Sounds like a bucket list trip. Totally jealous. Yes, I tend to fill up when down to one bar on the dash but with some bikes you still have 100km left.

Same experience on the seat, after 4+ hours it starts to lack a bit and after a few days of 8+ hours of riding (and very little stretching as I dont like stopping), my bum hurts a lot. Going to see how many of these crazy days I will do next year or gift myself an aftermarket Touratech comfort seat and would love a Corbin but they are hella expensive here in Europe. But in all else, it is the best bike I have ever owned and it harks me back 20 years to all the good times I had on an old Honda Bol d'Or CB900, same easy going handling with a strong growl when twisting the throttle.

Nice video. I bought a 2024 KTM 790 Adventure after thoroughly researching the following: Transalp, VStrom 800DE, Tenere, CFMoto Ibex800T. I did not consider a Tuareg (only one dealer in the state), or the 750/850GS (cost), or any of the Tiger variants. The 790 Adventure had tubeless tires, cruise control, and more power than the competition. It also compared well on weight. Additionally the actual out the door price in March 2024 in the USA was less than any of the Japanese bikes. KTM was willing to discount and not charge freight or prep. I’ve got 4500 trouble free miles (7240 km) on it and am very happy with my choice. My biggest issue was replacing the windscreen (6’2” tall (186 cm)). I’m sure the Transalp is a great bike as well as the 800DE. I know the Tenere is. BUT, who wants to tour (ride long distances) on tubed tires? I didn’t and still don’t. I could live without the cruise control, but don’t need to. Additionally, the KTM rider modes work as intended and are very intuitive.

good point on the tubed tires. I'm in the exact position you were before making your decision. I'm looking for early 2025 and it was a toss up between the 790 and the Transalp. I was leaning TA because of the recent issues with the 790s that I've heard about. They also have very short service periods? I'm curious, what were you able to get yours for?

@@cloud9847 What issues on the 2024 790 Adv? The cam issues were seen on pre 2022 790/890 bikes. I haven’t seen anything on the 2023/24 790/890 concerning the camshafts. Also I have a 4 year unlimited mileage warranty from KTM. The bike came with 2 years and KTM doubled it for no cost after I bought the bike. Required service must be done at a KTM dealer to get the extra 2 years. The service interval after initial service (620 miles) is every 9300 miles with valve checks every 18,600 miles. That’s a very good interval. I’ll change my oil more frequently by my choice. I got my 2024 790 Adv for about $12,300 Out The Door and another $650 for the Tech Package. I live in Washington State and the sales tax is 10% and in my county licensing was about $150. Taxes and licensing were included in that $12,300. To me the Transalp was a money pit, and it did not have the features I wanted. - Tubeless tires; 790 yes, TA no - skid plate; 790 yes, TA no - Crash bars; not needed on 790 due to gas tank and skid plate coverage; TA highly desired - Cruise Control; 790 yes with tech pack, TA no - Electronics ease of use; 790 yes and they are intuitive, TA confusing and traction control overly sensitive off pavement per numerous reviews - suspension; better on the 790 Adv You can spend several thousand additional dollars to make the Transalp a great bike. You don’t need to for the 790 Adv.

I am going to be in the market for a motorcycle like this probably next year. I have a DRZ400, so I don't really need a bike for the rougher roads and trails. I want something that will be comfortable on the highway and on dirt/gravel roads. The more I look at it, the more I like it and think it will fit what I would use it for. I rode one last year and really liked it. The engine and transmission are great. The seating position is too. The only drawback I see is the air filter being located under the gas tank, but think about how often you change an air filter. If I didn't have the DRZ 400, I'd probably lean toward the Tenere 700. There's also Honda reliability, not that the T7 isn't reliable. Hopefully, they will offer the red, white, and blue paint scheme in the US next year.

Great review! It's been decided; there will be a 2025 Transalp in my driveway next Spring. I started riding when I turned 50 a few years ago and the riding I love most is a combo of pavement and gravel/FSRs, with occasional 2-track. I don't want or need an offroad beast with aggressive knobbies as it doesn't suit my style of riding. I want an "SUV" motorcycle - more power than my KLR650, comfortable for longer rides, with reasonable off-pavement capabilities. I've outgrown my KLR but I'm still on a budget and the TA ticks almost all of the boxes for me.

I took my cb300r up to my sister's place near Peterborough and spent half a week just checking out twistie roads north and west of it... and oh my lord... there are some VERY nice roads in that region. The 37, 38 are exemplary... I ran the 37 at least once a day and it is such a beautiful and nice road... good elevation changes, couple blind corners and the only down-side is the occasional tractor.

I lived in Petawawa from 1991-2011, if you drew a rough square on the map using North Bay, Huntsville, Trenton. and Ottawa as the corners it gives you the rough area that was our weekend riding range for those 20 years. This bike makes me wish that I was tall. I'm 5'7" and only have a 29" inseam. I realize that you can do "tricks" that will make it possible to ride a bike that's too tall for you, such as when you get to a stop light you can slide over to the right and stand on your right leg and just leave the left foot on the peg... and when you need to back up you can get off of the bike and pull it back just holding the handlebars.... but I just don't want to have to do that stuff.... so I guess I will just continue to ride cruisers... Oh well.
