It's a known problem unfortunately. If you look at the VFR1200 forums you will find examples posted. Only seems to affect the manuals. DCTs not affected afaik.

A childhood mate of mine is riding VFRs for 20 years. First, he started on the oldest model VF 750 F, later on VFR 800 FI 2000' and last 5 years is on the same 1200 as in your test. Indeed the 750 and the first 800 sound unique.. And that cam-gear wining is so sweet.. No chains in that bike. I thought that the 1200 is uncomfortable but tested it one day and was just marvelous.

I have a Delkevic on my VFR800 VTEC, sounds glorious. Love the sound of the 1200 but the style is not for me, hope he gets it sorted without too much issue.
