HONDA VFR 800 Motorcycle: Watch this video for a full repair treatment of the problem !!! - Have you been stranded on your Motorcycle ? only to find your stator / regulator / rectifier was burnt out / Fried, and the battery has gone flat as a result, you instrument panel fades to nothing then the bike just stops.? This has been an ongoing issue for me, but now I think I have fixed it for good !?.

Hi ya mate I've got the exact same problem with my fz6. Just waiting for My stator from ebay. 2batterys later.😢 Got the new regulator all ready. Fingers crossed for you and good luck.

Hiya , are you buying an original part, if not, you may find it goes again. Also did this happen in exceptional heat like we have been having recently. The stators are supposed to be cooled by the oil, so if there are excessive loads, like you have both H4 Bulbs on your headlights permenently on, and any other power devices, and the oil hasnt been changed for a while or the oil filter needs changing etc, these can all have an effect on the cooling, and the power across the stator coils generate heat and the heat can dissolve theinsulation. Just out of interest, how many miles did ir run before the stator went ? Also, I reccommend you fit a volt meter on the handle bars themselves and you can see the behaviour of the charging circuit when in use, this can give you a pre-alert to a failure and dead battery as a result.

Loved it mate👍 been having reg/rec issues with my Honda xl1000 Varadero. Think I’m going to try the much talked about SH847 unit which supposedly stays cool. Did you get any voltage drop with the lights on? Was the rectifier getting really hot? Cheers!

I havent used that one before, but I beleive its a MOSFET based regulator, so that is a positive as it reduces the heat generated in the stator coils which can end up burning the insulsation off and then it all goes to hell in a handbasked right fast. PS: Yes, you do get a voltage drop with the lights on when its idling, but not seen much more than a 0.1/0.2 volt when riding, at least not on my bike. Although the fix in this video gave me much longer before a failure re-occured it did in the end. In my specific situation I had avoided buying honda Stators and went with the China Version. However, in the end I bought a honda pukka stator and found that the coil resitance was lower than the aftermarket ones, this means that some of the load was in the stator itself, and probably contributed to the failure. So far on the MOSFET Regulator ( not the original Honda one ) and with the replacement Original Honda Stator part ( £471 ) , I have done about 3,000 miles and its sweet as a nut, I have installed a voltmeter to the handlebars to I can keep an eye onthe voltage at all times as that will tell you if the charging ciruit is failing and give you time to react. But it has given me confidence that what I now have is going to last a long time. the other thing to consider is any extra loads like heated grips, and other devices you might have like sat nav etc this all adds to the power drain and could cause problems potentially. Finally, it might be worth considering swapping out your headlight bulbs for LED Versions if thats legal to do for less current drain.
