So here's an honest review of my 1994 VFR750 FR, the bike has covered just over 50,000 miles on UK roads and Europe and overall the reliability has been fantastic. To date apart from renewing the usual wearing parts, ie brake pads, chain sprockets etc the only two failures have been the ignition switch ( easily replaced by a pattern part) and the voltage regulator again a pattern part with no further issues. Oh I did forget to mention the dreaded exhaust collector box which does rot due to salt damage . I managed to obtain an almost brand new genuine Honda one via e bay for just $29.00 US dollars from a chap in Ohio via e bay, bargain or what. If yours needs replacing there are pattern ones on the market but they might be a little more difficult to fit. Apart from that its never even needed a new bulb ( how do I know this ) , as the bike was my brothers from new and I bought it from him some 20 years ago. Is it a beginners bike, yes, as unlike my Ducati its happy to creep along at 30mph as it is at 100mph, plenty of spares available and a wealth of guidance via Google.

Goy my license this spring and been riding my 50hp bike, and plan to do so this whole riding season. And I am a bit sceptical about getting this as a second bike after a year of driving. Double the power seems a lot to me. Very good video as well!

smart lad ! new riders should do at least a rear of riding a smaller, lighter bike b4 stepping up.

I have a 1999 VFR800 (5th gen). I keep it in top shape. Many of the observations you brought up are also applicable to the VFR800. Since I am not getting any younger, I wish it could be lighter, have a lower seat (I have a 30 in inseam) and had a better behavior in low speed/RMPMs. The bike has a jerky engine behavior driving through 15 mi/hr school zones, requiring more use of the clutch lever, which could be lighter as well. Reliability is awesome. Note: I've seen ABS tests showing the stopping distance on bikes is actually longer than with regular brakes so I do not think we are missing much (or anything).

Hey, the stutter is non existent on my VFR, maybe time to clean your injectors? Mine has a carburator so that’s a different story on my machine. The ABS, I think I know what tests you are referring to, and I believe that only the most skilled motor riders are able to break better than an ABS break system, but I can be wrong of course! I had the pleasure to ride a 5th gen VFR last weekend, very similar yet a very different bike 😂 photo is on my instagram❤️

@@edsmotomindset Thanks for the reply and video! I checked with a couple of 5gen owners and they confirmed having the same low speed complaint I have. It seems the carburator on yours provides a better experience than the fuel injection on mine. Stay safe and enjoying the bike.

I just picked up a 1996 VFR, and it's my first bike. I've got my temps (learner's license) and haven't taken the safety course yet (which will allow me to get the license, USA things) The one I've bought has 90,000 miles on it, so I can corroborate on a few of these points. - I'm 6'2" (189cm if that helps) so the seat height is fairly comfortable, I'm able to get both feet flat on the ground while I'm wearing boots. - It is *heavy*. I can feel it while I'm just sitting on it, and I've done some pushing it around the parking lot and kind of leaning it to each side to become familiar with that weight, but it's still quite a lot of weight. - Aside from the PO ruining the exhaust by tearing out all of the baffling, it seems to run well, only needing perhaps a little tune up, but the carbs seem synced, almost literally zero mechanical issues. - It needs a new stator, and regulator/rectifier, which seems to be a common problem among these bikes, but that's a pretty easy fix, with plentiful parts. - The PO also seems to have dropped the bike, or it slid, something along those lines, and I basically need to replace all of the fairings, but finding those new plastics has been hard and expensive (though a company called MotoXP Ricambi makes new fiberglass body panels), which truly seem to be the only hard parts to find. In the little bit of riding I've done, which is only parking lot to parking lot, maybe a 1/4 mile total (.4 km) I've basically had to only ride the clutch, because as a beginner rider with absolutely no riding experience, the throttle is very touchy, and will take quite a bit of getting used to, and lots of discipline to handle. It does seem like the throttle is a little jerky, but that may be because it needs some tuning up and TLC. I'd agree with the 5/10. It seems to be a great bike, and is probably the only bike I'll ever need, unless I want to get a different one for something else. Otherwise, seems like a perfect bike. @@edsmotomindset

Any bike that goes 150 MPH is a bad beginner bike. Get a Trail 125 or a Grom and learn the ropes.
