the Highlander also has that. Thats what full-time AWD drive is. the car is normally in rear wheel or front wheel drive mode, and if traction is lost, then power will be redistributed to the wheels with the most traction remaining. Cars cant just drive in 4WD system at high speeds. The transfer case would fall apart.

We have test drove the highlander and pilot. For driving experience, mazda is the best. It isnt boring like the pilot, or highlander. And despite its heavy weight, it feels the lightest of all 3. Overall, mazda IS the best out of all three

I have a 2008 model as well. Its been about 12 years since I've bought it and it's still great. I've had no issues with the water pump as well. I've also changed the power windows motor a few times but not very bad considering it's about 13 years old. I've driven about 248,000 miles and I can definitely use the car for even longer.

@Sherwin930 1st of all, i wrote that before the throttle sticking porblems second, it only affected the 2010 highlander third it has been proven that you can safely stop a car that has unintended acceleration fourth the problem has been fixed fifth not every single highlander has that problem and last it is still the best car for reliability

I would already purchased the CX 9 if it wasn't because it is not a top safety rated SUV. As a father of 2 small kids, safety is at the top of the list. That sucks since I really liked the driving and handling of the Cx 9. So now I am considering the Acura MDX (more money) or Lexus RX350 ( only 5 seats, more money). I also considered the Buick Enclave as is a top rated SUV but the test drive didnt impress me. Anyone else having the same concern with the CX 9?

That would make more sense but we wanted 4wd for when we go skiing. We've gotten stuck a few times on mountain roads. We could buy chains or snow tires I guess but 4wd is easier. The odyssey has a lot more room. My cousins have one. The only minivan with all wheel drive is the toyota seinna and now you have to get the limited model to get all wheel drive and that was too expensive. 40k I think.

@@Logan30001 It's definitely good in the snow. I wouldn't write it off my list yet. You could also consider a newer model (2018-2020). My understanding is that Mazda doesn't sell as many in the US compared to the other brands so you might be able to find a great deal. I found a great deal back in 2011. Good luck in your search.

@McVearryAnderCalcutt times change, now American cars have a lot of restriction like you can't rev the new American cars pass 3 (when its in park)or else the spark plugs start to fire off and the computer would shut it down. What fun is that. So I rather get a Japanese car plus they last longer even when you push it to the limit. American car may have a lot of power but that doesn't last long before mileage slow them down

that is what i checked when i wrote that, and the fact of the matter is Hondas are overall rated more reliable and better quality than Toyota nowadays. Toyota recently took a slump in quality ever since the new Camry came out. They put so much money and engineeering into that car, that they had to resort to using cheaper parts. The Highlander is obviously the better car though, it is still very reliable and also has great quality. Just less than that of Honda

Highlander carries 95 cubic feet of cargo while almost 10 inches shorter then the mazda cx-9 which carries only 100 cubic feet. Talk about more bang for your buck and you get a easier car to buy. The pilot shouldn't even be considered, its so noisey..... atleast throw the traverse in this review.

To Monopoly909: The Rogue is a compact (very much so) ute that competes with other mini-utes like the Honda CR-V. It's 5 passengers, and much smaller than the larger crossovers in the test here.

If i want to compare both of them i won't compare their quality , because i know they have similiar quality. i will only compare their Storage, Interior design , exterior design . And both have great engines too , and They produce almost the same horsepower per liter but Honda knows how to create more Horsepower per liter like the S2000 but overall it is the same because, Toyota and Honda CAN BUILD F1 ENGINES !!

you said the Trailblazer and Ford Escape are rated better than any foreign SUV, than tell me something, the Ford Escape only selling because of the Hybrid and who came out with the Hybrid first. that was Honda ok, second the Trailblazer is only good because of how big is it inside but not reliable as these three SUV. my friend just got his on 05 and now starting to have problem with it and my uncle 99 Honda Passport is still kicking with no mechanical problem and its been reliable ever since

The mazda cx9 is not reccommended from consumer reports. I dont know why they are reccomending it? Consumer reports claim it's not reliable, not good on gas, and overall aren't very well made. The honda would be my pick, yet I find it overpriced. Honda is great but there prices are WAY TO HIGH, and hyundai is coming after them.

I agree. the Enclave look a lot better than those three Crossover SUV but that because the Enclave is actually a Luxury brand auto of GM beside Cadillac. so so if you want to talk about Luxury. then talk about the Acura MDX, RDX, OR Lexus RX350, GX470LX570. now who is talking. I have a neighbor who is a pharmaceutical sales rep who racked up over 280,000 miles on her Pilot and it required nothing but regular maintenance (I think) two new windshields. Honda knows how to do it right. Also, everyone else is clocking the Honda's 0-60 in the mid 7's. How did Edmunds get a 10 second 0-60????

the Mazda and Toyota are awesome. the Toyota Highlander is rugged and sporty while the Mazda CX-9 looks stylish and sleek. They both are really well in terms of performance and comfort. Not much to say about that hideous new Pilot. Boxy, 149 ft 60-0 and 9.7 sec 0-60!!!!??? what is wrong with Honda/Acura nowadays?? Their new cars are not only awful in terms of performance, but also lack decent looks. The interior and exterior of the Pilot are gross, i recommend anything but the Pilot
