Interesting how this came out in 2022, but i feel that i have to comment: I got this car in 2006 and after 16 years and 300 000 km it's still runing great with a good fuel consumption. Yes the 4x4 system for the x-trail is THE BEST!!! in it's category. No wonder it's on 1st place. Great video, made me love this car even more! P.S. the 4x4 lock system works only under 40km/h, so enabling it "like in the video" on the track, was nonsens. It goes into AUTO mode automaticaly when you go over 40km/h cose it's designed to get out of sticky situations (snow, mud) but not to race.

Can't believe he put the Xtrail in 4x4 Lock on the race track. That mode is only for loose surface, mud or snow. On a dry road it's like driving with difflock on. Axle windup, lots of strain on the transmission. Even the handbook warns not to use 4 Lock in the dry.
@richwilliams98956 жыл бұрын
The system automatically switches out of lock when if knows u don’t need it so no real harm done. I think it was done for camera to show it has a 4x4 system
@DancinJim6 жыл бұрын
rich Williams No, that's only in auto mode. 4x4 lock puts it permanently on. However I don't agree with the OP anyway- I've used it in dry but steep conditions and it works like a charm.

I used it when I was stuck on snow, esp off and the wheels without grip were spinning so is not locking anything.
@tommarshall77496 жыл бұрын
No, you cannot lock the diffs on the model. It locks it in 4wd as apposed to 2wd or the auto system that will split the power if there's loss of grip. There is categorically no harm in driving this car in permanent 4wd lock.

Tiff mentions the difference between the X-Trail and RAV4 is that you can flick a switch in the Nissan to put it in permanent 4WD. However, the RAV4 2.0L already has permanent 4WD, and the NRG and VX models even a rear limited slip diff at the rear too! With both of them now being 17+ years old, the RAV4 is still going strong in the reliability department. I certainly wouldn’t choose the X-Trail over the Toyota.

I have owned this same model of X-Trail for 9 years, and it is a fantastic vehicle, all-around - reliability, design, ground clearance, space, comfort, power (2.5 litre Petrol engine), 4WD, etc... About a month ago, I got to ride in the same model of RAV4 featured in this video. Although it is a nice car, it feels like a small hatchback compared to the X-Trail.

I had a rav4 for awhile. I loved how nimble it was. Way too much fun for a compact SUV. I have never driven an x-trail so i cant say anything but i think these cars are for different people. The rav4 is much smaller than the Nissan and is much more fun. The nissan is more practical for a family and offroading due to ride height and size. I would say they both win. Pick which one suits your lifestyle.

The Sorento with ladder chassis, 2.5 timing chain improved version of a mitsubishi based garret turbo diesel and the early strong 4 speed Aisin auto box and part time selectable borg 4wd is the best all rounder semi serious 4x4 imo, main problem is rear trailing arm brackets rusting and breaking. The CR-V 2.0 vtec manual is best for most people in UK as it is civic ep3 based with comfy independent suspension, reliable chaincam vtec naturally aspirated engine huge amounts of room in boot with rear seats slid forward and doesnt have a dual mass flywheel like much of the manual competition. Get Honda dual pump fluid changed. Both of these also have rear glass hatch window that opens independently, a very useful feature once you have it. Rav4 no rear hatch but good reliability, vitara, grand vit ladder chassis and low range but no rear hatch and so so build quality and engine choice , forester Boxer engine pain in ass to change spark plugs and doesnt have rear hatch, hyundai santa fe is somewhat ugly dual mass flywheel on manuals, timing belts to worry about. Xtrail no rear hatch and some engine problems, mk2 ford maverick / mazda tribute rust like heck, freelander no end of problems. Hyundai terracan diesel delphi fuel injectors and rear diff problems. Tucson and Sportage are quite good but avoid diesel manuals with dual mass fly wheel and get TOD/ATT oil changed.

WHAT!? how dare they not have the Suzuki XL-7 in the test! i have not driven a single vehicle that can compete with it! infact, it performed the best in the Chicago Traffic Challenge (lots of 0-90mph stuff with sudden lane changes), it may only get 12mpg when driven like that, but it is a lot better than being one of the 40 dead people over 3 snowy days. the only time my mom ever got it stuck was when she drove it off the road into a huge ditch with 8 feet of snow in it, and that probably wouldn't of happened if she had it in 4 wheel drive to begin with. however, the o2 sensors seem to go bad in it every 5 years, other than that there have been no problems. it has been hit by so many other vehicles too, you just can't stop a Suzuki!

So you consider these as full size SUVs? In the US they are classed a compact. I guess it's because of the fuel prices in the UK?
