Glad to see she's now running right, good job. And very helpful to see how to do this sort of testing - like many people electrics are definitely my weak point so really useful to be given the reminders on how to test stuff, a multimeter is a really powerful tool and I'm only just starting to get the most out of mine. Good series of vids this.

Thank you Rob that's what I like to do is help and spread the knowledge.... After a while certain fault symptoms just come apparent and diagnosing becomes quicker..... I love faulty bikes 😳 so this one is a gem to me 🤟..... Just can't believe it was in such bad condition.... There were still more faults to cover so currently editing vids

More multimeter vids please... They have always confused the hell out of me when I try to follow a Haynes manual... I think a M.M. poke around my SRAD would be a good idea!
@PXCBIKES3 жыл бұрын
Lol I will try.... You use mostly the ohms or resistance testing to test the integraty of a circuit.... (if there is a rotten wire or connection) and there is DC current testing for power from the battery... And AC current for power from the stator....

Thanks .... yes the oem plug caps and coils are quite expensive ...they ain't bad but everything deteriorates with time and use ... but the plug caps and coils I used are much cheaper and less resistance so hopefully better spark

@@PXCBIKES Honda vtr always something to work on 😆 Are you going to do a MCCT vid?
@PXCBIKES3 жыл бұрын
I would but there is no reason for me to do so yet... I know how auto tensioner work and also what makes tensioner fail.... My VTR has done 11kms so it's only 6k miles not alot for engine wear.... Autontensioners are common on most engi es and they work from a preloaded spring with a wratchet cam... Cam chains usually stretch and tensioner can extend beyond theyr intended point... And an incorrectly balanced and pair of cylinders with low idle and aggressive riding can cause them to fail..... But I have heard about a modified tensioner available.... As manual ones do take alot of care to get right
@lovecycling1933 жыл бұрын
@@PXCBIKES yeah you and measure your current gap on the Auto tensioner and use a rod in it so if or when it fails it can't fully wind open. Shame really Honda didn't design it the fail in current position. Mine failed on my 2nd storm she was 3 years old 6K miles, luckily I wound off the power slowly and stopped her in gear. She was just out of warranty but Bransons fitted new Acct but the mechanic done the the mod so it couldn't fail and unwind. Clever mod and means you get the smoother start up of the acct as well

@PXCBIKES Жыл бұрын
Hello sorry for the late reply.... I don't have a link no but I used GPZ550 plug caps and then cut the rubber boot on the vtr ones to secure them in place
@arhodehamel26153 жыл бұрын
As shown in the end of the video there is a resistor in the factory plug cap which can go bad as well as corrosion can occur on the spring inside the cap that acts as a conductor. Have a vtr that was cutting out in the rain (not fun) . Replaced the coils and never had that problem again. Also got another vtr with the cbr stick coil conversion and it produces a visibly hotter spark but not sure if that makes a big difference in performance. Regardless awesome bikes and getting hard to find over here in the US. I got a high compression engine in the works currently and am stoked to say the least. Glad to see someone actually producing some decent content around these bikes. Cheers 🍻

Dude! Not being funny but why have you just explained to him everything he has demonstrated in the video ? I think the video tells us that there is a resistor and a corroded spring in the cap OK 🤷♂️

Brilliant mate but have you heard of the coil and stick replacement where you use a cbr 600 plug and coil (coil stick JOB) Just asking mate. Love your channel and hope to see more! Had mine a 1997 2000 miles in RED for 3yrs And it is far better than the CBR 600rr I sold it for lol
@PXCBIKES2 жыл бұрын
I have yes I don't k ow anyone personally who has done the mod for the VTR or if there is a reason fo rthe cbr600 coil... But for better results you may have to adjust the plug gap or plug heat range... The stick coils probably would produce a better spark for a better burn but it all depends on the correct ignition timing to suit the pulse or just upgrade to high performance coils that... But it is interesting and worth a look to see the results or due to a low revving vtwin it may not do anything at all.... But that being said the OEM coils and plug caps are absolute power restricting overpriced crap!

So o have a 1998 honda superhawk 996 also. I need to replace spark plugs. I cant seem to find the location
@PXCBIKES2 жыл бұрын
The spark plugs?... Easy pal at the very to of th ecylinder heads there will be a thick wire with a rubber boot on the end... Pull it out and the plugs are down in the cylinder heads.. You will have to remove the tank to access the rear one... The front cylinder plug is tight under the radiator... You can get it out with a flexible end on a spark plug socket

Brilliant thanks again, my coils are 24years old n lead etc, so I've ordered the RMstator you told me about, now I've just got to order the caps you used, can I ask which model NGK are they please
@PXCBIKES3 жыл бұрын
OK these are from my GPZ550 but plug caps are generic and mostly the same you can also search on ebay for NGK SD05FM-R resistor cover or Honda NTV I use the iridium plugs so you can screw of the contact nipple at the top of the plug.... If you did the stick coil mod then you would use the plug DCP9RE.....
@lovecycling1933 жыл бұрын
@@PXCBIKES cool thanks I just stuck some standard plugs in as I change them every year when I do the oil etc. I've ordered the RM leads, seen a few tests now and like yourself they noticed the RM could offer very little resistance. I'll get some of those plugs as well so I can replace the lot, I've just fitted a new CBR 125 reg/rec so. So with her now having a full carb strip n clean oil filters etc etc done, all I've got to do is check the calipers etc and she'll be good for the summer

@PXCBIKES3 жыл бұрын
0.90mm 👍 usually they should be OK but it is well worth a check with any plug they are quality controlled from production..... A closer gap will give a smaller spark.... A wider gap will give a bigger one but too wide and it will not strike an ark 👍

Yes maybe... The coils in this video ar from RMSTATOR sometimes coils csn be good quality with low resistance but the HT leads can use thin wiring that won't last.... So you can aquire some good HT lead and remove the one that comes with the coil and fir your own
