They said I wasn't ready for the raw, unbridled power that the new Honda XR150L dual sport was going to throw at me...but I didn't back down from the challenge, despite my overwhelming fear...
In all seriousness, the Honda XR150L is a uniquely-positioned entry-level dual sport motorcycle. I have been curious about it since Honda first announced they were bringing it to the states so when I got a chance to do a Honda XR150L off road test ride at the 2024 Touratech Rally, I jumped at the chance. As a larger rider, I was curious how the engine and suspension would hold up to me riding it, and I'm happy to say both performed admirably.
This is a great dual sport motorcycle for beginners and it also has its uses for more experienced riders. It's the perfect base platform for a mini adv bike build and would make an excellent "back of the motorhome" motorcycle for running errands in town.
I had an absolute blast riding the Honda XR150L off road. I may be a fat guy on a little bike, but that's all part of the fun!

Bought my wife one a few months ago as her first ever bike. I think it's the perfect beginner bike. I told my wife that when she reaches the point where she feels like the bike is holding her back we will upgrade her to something bigger (probably a 300L Rally), but in the meantime she is comfortable and confident on her little XL. It's low enough she can flatfoot the ground and light enough she can hold it up easily and pick it up when she drops it. Money well spent in our case 👍

I 100% agree that often it can be a real hoot, fantastic fun to go slow riding a small bike as a change. We are not intimidated and can safely, kind of, do stupid things on them also. The hardest thing to do it to see and pay attention due to the huge smile and grin that will occur on your face along with all the laughing.

You couldn't be more correct my man! ...my TW200 is an FN blast for that reason. I get to wring it out thru all 5, even in-town. No HWYs, but country roads at 55-60 are perfect. ...And any random trail I see, will be explored!

Love mine. Ride it 80% offroad. Drop 2 teeth on the front sprocket. No need to shorten chain and it gears the top speed down to an achievable speed (about 53mph) for the engine's power and the slight increase in wheel torque is worth it. Rubber comes off the pegs with one nut each, very important for off roading where you'll get wet.

I need to get on one of these. Feels like the perfect bike to have somewhere like [pick your ideal countryside or city] -- forces you to stay off the (boring) highways and ride more interesting roads at a more relaxed speed.

Thank you so much for doing this! I've been waiting for you to review the xr150!! I've had mine now for almost a year now, and I absolutely love it! I've gotten 136 mpg before, and it hovers around 120 mpg for community to work and joy rides. It's not too bad for going in the woods and fields, just having a blast! It is a little on the slow side, but that being said, it is a great starter bike. It gets your feet wet in dual sport motorcycles. It is pretty easy to work on!! Can't wait for more awesome/cheap motorcycles to hit the USA market!!!

I bought one a year ago. It was a very fun re-entry (after 25 year break) back into motorcycling, and got me hooked all over again, but quickly found myself buying a bigger bike (BMW 310gs) and selling the 150 after about 4 months of overlap. I'm now gazing at Yamaha xt250 as a replacement for the xr150 to get back to a 2 bike collection (although something like a bmw 850gs or Ducati multistrata 950 is also a gleam in my eye to replace the 310gs). You've most likely got to go though a few bikes to find the right one. If your just getting into it, the XR150 is a great little bike to start.

I had one when they came out here in the US. I deeply regret selling it. It was so smooth, so comfortable, so good on gas. Just a fantastic bike for light duty off roading. The XR150L has been around for a very long time overseas. I call it the King of the jungle. Here in the US, we make fun of it for being cheap, underpowered and underperforming. On the other side of the planet, these bikes have been taken through the most gnarly, mountainous jungle terrains regularly and are known to be bomb proof tanks.

I have a 2014 model here in New Zealand, they are mostly sold here as farm bikes on dairy and sheep farms. I've done multi day off road adventures camping off the bike no problem. Fun fact- if you lift your legs up and rest your legs on top of the gas tank fairings so your feet are poking out the front on either side of the headlight you can go way faster.

I have over 5000 miles on mine. Love it on the back roads in NW Iowa. Lots of gravel roads to ride. I can cruise between 45-50mph. Mine got a lot friskier after I put 1500 miles on it. 0 to 45 is OK. On a day when there is no head wind, and a level road, I can ride along at 55mph. It is a second bike for me, as I also have a CanAm Spyder F3L. This little Honday is so much fun to ride!

Writing this without first watching your video (yet). I almost bought one of these this spring as my first, personally-owned bike (I'm almost 60 but rode buddy's dirt bikes a lot as a teen). I'm glad I didn't as I'm 6'5" and 240#. Instead, I bought a super low miles CRF250L with full Racetech suspension already set up for someone exactly my size with Seat Concepts seat and FMF exhaust/tuner. I like the CRF a lot but am already wanting more power. Off road, I don't notice it so much, but on road, definitely do. An XR150L would made my thirst for power way worse, not to mention a suspension that I would have punished horribly at my size.

I almost got one to knock around town on, and ride occasional trails. But, a test ride on a Yamaha XT250 changed my mind - with it's 21 x 18 wheel size, you can get really great tyres for it. It's a bit bigger and more roomy for the rider. The Yammie can handle your weight and do 70 mph with The Dork aboard. It's a bit more pricey, but is worth the extra $.

Serious question. Would you take this, or a DR200?
@airadaimagery692

TW, DR, XR, in that order for me. Then it would be the KLX230 and the XT250 before getting into the 300s. That’s just my preference.

They are cool, I think they could have easily put their old 223 CC engine in it and kept the price down. I am looking at an XPRO titan just because they are the Honda 223 CC engine clone (from Zongshin) and they cheaper over half.

You're struggling..... Mr.Dork, hard to sell the bike & sound like it's not for you in one sentence but it's alright. I am looking at this bike as a last ditch case & actually it might be easier to carry with me? Back to the show.... Carry On, Sir. peace

I'm not trying to sell anything. I can have fun on something and also understand that it's not practical for someone my size in most situations.

Forgive me, I loose track watching all of these different channels but I'm certain I subb'd up here for a reason? I am looking at 10-11 dual sports and a few on my list have been on this channel..... this little 150L is the smallest that I might end up with but I digress. I've not had a bike on over 30yrs but you're right about being able to have fun on anything. As for selling it, it's rare that anyone totally shoots down a bike especially when bikes are provided so they tend to not talk bad about the manufacturer. And you did mention this little bike being sold overseas & they are all over Asian & S.American nations as well. Long proven track record & it's my belief that Honda dropped this bike into America to compete w/ all those Chinese offerings ; For $1000 more than Amazon Chinese bikes you can get this Honda and they didn't have to do too much to compete here. Your review was fine, chat soon

@@user-dv7hb2sc9mI think you would be happier with a 200, like the TW or DR. Or even a 230. The only reason I’d choose this bike over any of those is if I had to buy a brand new bike.

Thanks & yeah, the TW200 & XT250 are possibles for me at this point. I actually liked the old XT225 which had a 6th gear but they quit making her long ago. And I've looked & still looking at the KLX's(230/300). I've got time as I save & like you said about the 150L, it's a new bike w/ no worries about what might break? INTENT is every riders biggest decision & I'm going Dual Sport > I need an 80% Roads/20% other. That said I'm kinda stuck w/ the same riding issues as everyone else & the 150L isn't going to make the grade on speeds. I estimate needing to go 70mph for 2 hrs at a time. No long hauls but I've got Interstate roads which I can't get around. But I've researched all these 11 bikes down to the pro's/con's for ME including the mods I'd require & the costs of all the mods. I've taken it to post purchase for mods/upgrades, their costs, and how long it'll take me. By learning all of this, it will help me if I look at used bikes since I'll know lots of the mods on all these bikes & what they might've cost me so all this has given a great amount of knowledge which I credit all these Channel's & good folks like yourself that jump in to help. I hope in all this that others will be helped as well. Above you said DR, the 650? I've got 2-3 650's that I've looked at & they are the largest bikes I'll consider. I'm too old to pick up a bike more 2-3 times but 2 bikes on my short list are the DRz400 & Honda 300L Rally version. Every single one has it's ups/down & the biggest problem we all have; Too many choices, lmao!? From the 650's on my list to this 150L, throw me any one of these bikes & I WILL make it work for me, period. YT Channels, After Market Parts, and the manufacturers have created a niche of Video Channels driving their marketing of all this stuff to you -n- me which is good but it also leaves folks overwhelmed. The appeal to own a NEW Bike is great, this little Honda is the only one I could buy now & who knows, I might w/ each visit to a video I'm leaning to Just Do It. peace man & sorry for the rant

Dude…it’s a little bike and you’re 150lbs past too much for the bike. I considered it for just in town but quickly released engine, brakes, clutch, suspension was so maxed every bit of use would be abusive to the bike and me, neither would last.
