@@hebeb394 I had one one in 2000 and compard to the XR600R it was really bad to handle and ride on our usual tight loops. I think it was made more BAJA than Enduro. On the MXtrack it was not bad. So as it was more my area and stuff we rode that did not fit together. I'm sure it's a great bike. And of course it cannot fit any riders style and likes. Hi. It's always the rider. With passion, love and the will to learn you see that a lot of stuff is possible. I owned a 2000 XR650R and I was not as lucky as with the XR600R. The 600 is the all arround bike & the 650 is the gravel & road king. Now I'm back with this 94 XR600R and a 93 XR250R. I still love 'em. For your riding: Go step by step. I did some small jumps more than 100 times to build up my motoric skills. Then it was two stroke KTM 300, and last to years I rode two stroke Suzuki RMX 250. But had to quit due to some injuries. In 1998 I took a trip from my country Norway over the pond to USA. the last GNCC round before the summer break went off in Manahawkin NJ, so went over to watch the best US offroad riders compete. In that particular event, Mr Summers injuired himself in the very first turn and had to withdraw. I got to talk to him before the start though. Steve Hatch on his factory FMF Suzuki won. Wow, the XR500's had nice and good engines. But you can start from the right side with left leg like the old bikes my father had ... left leg body motoric is cracy but if you give it some try and training you can hop up and enjoy the XR again (do not!! if it is just less than 5 weeks ago that you broke the leg!!!) Wish a good recovery! Kind regards Thomas

I'm almost 50 now, and i have a XL500s. I want to drive my Honda like that. You have any suggestions for me where to start, please?
@egger2500

Hi Tomas. I'm 47 now, I started at 14 to ride motorcycles. The first 3 years with Trial-Bikes than MX & Enduro. Depending on your current skills I do not know where to start but there is always room to improof. Take it step by step not to hurt yourself. Best thing is to take some riding technic hours from a pro + a well in function bike is so much easier & better to ride. Look at the body position, keep your legs on the pegs and RIDE, RIDE, RIDE. Good luck! ;- ) BTW I still learn and learn and learn. I love it!

You look so relaxed when you ride, and jump. Really a joy to watch. Thank you for your advice. I will keep my feet on the pegs, watch the body position, and take it step by step. I am in no hurry. I think there may be some newbie-courses in MX here around Stockholm/Sweden, I'll look for it this spring. Actually to be honest, I bought my bike just this winter and I don't even have a motorcycle license yet. I have booked lessons for next month, hopefully winter will be over and I'll be able to get some basic training.

@@uncletom1971 starting from Ground up is maybe a good thing, better than correcting bad things. If you search for bike trainings and or loop riding "8" you will see that you can additional control the throttle with the breaks and clutch. By holding the gas in one position and slipping the clutch a little and control the roll with the front and rear brakes ... Good luck, don't give up even when having some bad days. Kind regards From Austria Thomas Egger

This is so epic! Well done! I have to ask though, have you changed anything with your suspension? I find its very soft from stock which i always liked for comfort but im starting to think it hinders on my performance! Also what do you think, xr600 vs xr650r? :)
@egger2500
@egger2500 6 жыл бұрын
Hallo. Thx you like it. Back in 93 when I owned my first XR600R, the suspension was nice and hard too - after getting the newer 96 I had 2 huge get-offs due to soft suspension of the newer 96. In this video I ride the 94 which should have similar setting as the 93. In some of my older videos you can check the bottoming by hearing the rear end bumping into the very end. If you know - you will hear it. For this 94 to be honest I did nothing for the suspension - only the carb is different - you can check the rebuild @ www.motopark.at/gallery/project-x/ ..... for the XR650R: I owned a 2000. I sold it after 11 months. I was unhappy. Some 10 years later I got my fathers 2000 to ride - I was still unhappy. The XR650R is more a desert or road bike - I feel. Kind regards Thomas

Hey very impressive build, the bike looks really pleasing!! From your site I just realized it is you that made those older videos of riding the XR, i have watched them since years ago! Thanks for your take on the 650R, i was interested in it for its extra power but cant sacrifice the rugged ability of the 600R (and it has no battery - best for out in the bush!) I also need to ask you if you know anything about the axles, because in 93 honda went the bigger front axle. Well i had a 92 and the axle snapped collapsing the bike and dislocating my shoulder!! This will especially happen when you ride like this :D Is this a common thing? Have you heard of it?
@egger2500

THX you like the build! Have scrolled over the whole website & galleries? Thats my "moto-life" in pictures from the last circa 35 years - there are some old Enduro-XR picture galleries too. Yeah, the XR650R felt not so good - it had so less traction going trough small stuff and little river crossings ..... For the front axle I 'm in luck that I had no problems with collapsing - and never heared similar - even my Honda dealer rode MX Nationals with the XR's in 94 & 95 ......

I have just now, and I love it. The CR's, kawis, jumps.... there some great photos in there, and the rare vintage enduros! That's strange that the axle happened only to me. I would still like to test a 650R just for my interest but I cant wait to get back on a 600, you have made them cool again!

THX you like my stuff, but the honor to bring it back and make it cool goes to my friend OVE from Norway - with his XR600R rebuild I digged deep in my XR history and uploaded the old stuff. I took a while for digitalisation from video8 and hi8 + scanning all those old pics older than 2000 .... but I'm glad I did it. Maybe you have some old or new stuff you could also share. Kind regards Thomas

@egger2500
@egger2500 5 жыл бұрын
No, not really. The 93 & 94 had the best suspension ever. The 96 was soft & weak as hell- I had my troubles. The only thing I've ever done was a circa 1 inch or 2,5 cm spacer for the forks springs to get the OEM stiffer - today I would go for stiffer springs - but as you can see in this video it's a 94 with 100% OEM setting ridden in 2018 - you can check all XR videos @ my channel: kzbin.info/aero/PLAMSJUeEdZ-XX1B6ZtxkrY-hjE5Qii8_U kind regards Thomas
