I'd love to try out the Rebel 500. Looks like a nice bike. Great to see you have an empty lot to practice in. In my neck of the woods, any business or organization with a parking lot keeps it closed and locked during non-business hours. Even the parking lots for the public schools are gated. Large shopping centers have their mall cops chase you out even if the lot is empty. The only place left when I started out last year was the street. Pretty much like getting thrown into the deep end. Spend a lot of time on your slow speed maneuvers: entering/leaving a driveway, slow roll to simulate looking for a parking space or stuck in a traffic crawl, right turns, U-turns etc. Don't forget taking off from on an incline. I have my commute laid out so I avoid that hurdle until I can master it in a controlled environment. Get yourself some decent riding jeans and a jacket for your climate. Lots of deals on FB Marketplace and Craigslist from folks who gave riding a shot and soon decided it wasn't for them.

This parking lot is a metro train station parking lot, so it’s open to the public. And the bonus is there’s usually at least one sheriffs deputy, if not more, patrolling the parking lot. They let us do our thing and leave us alone, but it certainly gives us a sense of security knowing they are there. And the people who use the train all park on one end, and there’s not a lot of them so the rest of the parking lot is just wide open like it was meant for us to practice in😁 I really appreciate your advice. I never thought about the practicing on inclines and slowly rolling through the parking lot looking for a parking space. I’ve been working on my right turns more than my left turns since I don’t feel as comfortable with my tight right turns. And of course lots of U-turn work. Thank you!👍🏼

@@vonderdorlinghaus4042 Yeah, I still suck on U-turns. I get it done, but it's not great form. At least I haven't dropped the bike. 👍

@@PCDoctorUSA well, you got me there. The second night we went out on the bike I had it on my driveway I made the mistake of putting the kickstand up before mounting the bike. When I attempted to throw my right leg over the bike it began tipping to the left, I tried to stop it, and it took me down with it. I went headfirst into my Honda pilot which was to the left of me. Thank goodness I had my helmet on because I put a nice big scratch on the right passenger door. An absolute newbie Mistake. That following Saturday I had it at the dealership getting an Engine guard installed to protect it from me 😆.

@@vonderdorlinghaus4042 Similar story... Put the kickstand down on my just purchased pre-owned '04 Yamaha FZ6 and it must not have been down completely. Pushed off the gas tank while swinging my leg over to dismount and watched the bike fall over in slow motion. Broke the front turn signal. Replaced the signal, installed Shogun sliders and learned to pay attention. Enjoy your ride. Look forward to more posts.

I got the same bike last year. I absolutely love it! This reminds me of my first day on it with my wife watching/filming while I got the feel for it. Followed by a few street rides with her following me 😅. Looking forward to more of your videos

Right now we have just the basics. Helmet gloves and boots. But he wasn’t wearing his boots in this one. We had just returned from Delamo Motorsports because we had an engine guard installed on the bike and had the chain serviced. We stopped here at the metro train parking lot to get a little bit of practice in. All the video is of him because when I was riding he was too busy watching the videos that I made for him😆

@@Moctify Since we took the motorcycle training and safety class, all we had to do for licensing was to submit the paperwork and take a written test. The training and safety class took the place of a DMV riding test. It was about a month between the time we got our licenses and finally purchasing our motorcycle. We’ve been parking lot practicing as well as driving through town ever since 👍🏼 Next, we’re looking to purchase a second bike so we don’t have to share the ride anymore 🤓
