Same here. Age 65 and just took my MSF course a couple of weeks back (20 days to be precise.) That was originally with the intention of getting licensed to ride a Vespa, but after learning the manual shifting, I'm now gunjy to consider a Honda Rebel as well. So I'll be building my skill set and confidence on the scooter and when I'm ready, I'll joing my Harley riding son with my own cruiser. At this point , Sonny Boy is riding with me. We do look the odd lot--a 1200 Sportster along a Vespa GTS 300. lol

Nina all the feelings and emotions that you were going through were the same exact emotions that I’ve gone through so don’t let that hold you back. I’m still quite new to riding and get nervous every time I get on the bike and that’s a good thing because I think it keeps you alert. I’m looking forward to seeing day two of you learning to ride. If I may suggest which I’m sure you already know by now, please wear boots in case you drop the bike and it falls on you, you don’t want your feet to get smash/crunched. My first time on the bike just like what you did today, I came to a stop in the parking lot and forgot to put my feet down and down I went with the motorcycle on top of me and I was wearing tennis shoes. From that day forward every time I got on the bike to practice I always slipped my boots on. Good luck!

Dude … you are a good instructor BUT what stuck out for me was how amazing you are with her and managing her feelings. There is a lot of machismo around bikes and I swear you are the first person that I ever saw that took a moment, explored the feelings of a new rider, made them ok to manifest and setting the noobs mind right before they start moving. I don’t know if you are but you will be an amazing dad. THIS is what I love the most about bikes … drivers make cars great, bikes hold up the rider not the other way around.

Good for you. My wife is over 60 and she learned to ride on her Monkey. She was riding around the parking lot the first day. She passed her test on the first try she has a Rebel 500 now also. She actually likes the Rebel better because the seat height is lower than the Monkey. We wanted to get the same bike for her and me. That is why we got two 500s. It's perfect for her to learn on and still enough bike for me. Best of luck to you.

@@womanhoodisnotacostume7648 I highly recommend the Honda Rebel 500. Any less cc and in a month or so you’ll wish you had the 500. They make the 1100 too, but the tank is a bit wider, which pushes your legs out a bit, and for me, made my feet reach a bit too much for comfort.

Thank you so much for this video. The vibes are immaculate. I love how supportive and kind you are Burch, and how vulnerable and honest Nina is. Honestly I'm getting emotional watching you. hey nina- nobody thinks you’re stupid. i promise. everybody started like this (my first time on a motorcycle was 10x more catastrophic). asking questions and intentionally learning is infinitely better than rawdogging it. there’s a lot of different processes and variations when it comes to riding. also i’ll be honest, i don’t even know where neutral is half the time. i learned to ride on a motorcycle with a broken gear indicator and i couldn’t get it started for the life of me at time because i couldn’t find neutral. hope you’re enjoying riding ❤

BEST suggestion someone told me. Bike turned off. Put the bike into first gear. Pull the clutch in. Walk the bike. Slowly release it so you can feel the friction zone without worrying about the power of the engine taking over. It’s all about slow walking it just until you feel the clutch grabbing the transmission. You can have a ‘no engine power’ way to get an understanding of your friction zone. Simply the best advice I was given. I am a first time rider and I did this for hours. This made my clutch lever feel so seamless I hardly even think about my friction zone now. Best of luck with your bike and welcome to the the rider world!

I cannot thank you both enough for this video. I have watched a ton of “beginner how to” videos but most of them speak as if you already know stuff. I don’t. But to hear him actually speak and teach an actual person on a bike ( together with her POV ) it just felt like I, myself, am being taught firsthand. I love how she delved into the fear of the bike and him saying how most of that fear comes from people telling you how hard and dangerous riding is. I’ve been wanting to get a bike of my own but I’ve never driven one before at all. He was right to say that the internet needs these kinds of vids. I have learned more in this one vid than all the other ones. Not just motorcycle stuff but also the mental approach to it.

I’m so glad to see this video. I just got my license yesterday and I felt exactly the same way you did. I also wanted a nap and sushi and wine after 2 hours, except I couldn’t. I wish I had gotten on a motorcycle before so it would have been easier on me. It was mentally and emotionally exhausting. I got on a bike for the first time on Saturday and took the test on Sunday. The hardest thing: making a U turn (can’t put your foot down) and a sharp left on slow sleep, if you got that then you can do anything, in my opinion. Believe me girl, you will do great and I’m glad to see such a relatable video. Relax and enjoy the ride. At the end I was able to pass. I had great coach. And also my husband was graceful supporting me and encouraging me. When you get the gist of it you will feel so wonderful. I wish success and joy for you. My only advice, get out of your head if you stress, relax, believe in yourself, and turn your head, look at where you want to go.

Took the "Team Oregon" Motorcycle classes, at the end of which you get a certificate which when given to the DMV will get you your endorsement. What Fun Those classes were! Problem: I love my Vespa but missed shifting... Solution: Now I have a motorcycle AND a scooter. Your patience with her is admirable, and you're a good teacher. The team Oregon classes were similar, very step wise and non threatening. I learned survival skills for the road.. I can't imagine riding without instruction.

I am planning on getting a rebel for my first bike and I needed this video. I did my M2 course but I learned on a bike similar to the Grom, so I feel her!

The way your showing the basics and going slow taking the time, is super helpful Really helping me understand and know things I didn't know just like her.. Thanks man Keep on keeping on my friends

It’s funny, my wife having hand control reach concerns on her Rebel 500 brought me to your channel when I watched you install those adjustable levers off of Amazon. Being able to adjust the clutch lever to have a natural reach totally made the learning experience better for both of us beginners.

That’s awesome dude! I definitely plan on picking up some adjustable levers for her ASAP! They seriously make a world of difference 🙌🏻

@@LifeOfBurch Yeah...that's a pretty long reach for her shorter fingers. She may need to work on grips strength, also...

Thank you for the realness. I'm doing my "research" for getting a bike, hopefully next year. This is making me feel better.

I just bought a rebel 300 yesterday and I feel the same exact way. This validated me so hard.
