Thx u Ed. Most people don’t realize all the time and work that goes into machining. I worked at an auto parts store in 1978. We provided shop service. I learned how to recondition heads and u joints, wheel bearings etc. If I remember correctly it was 69.95 plus parts to recondition a set of heads. If they required guides or seats replaced they got sent out to a real machine shop like yours. I would knurl the guides and cut seats and true valves or replace if needed. This really brings back the memories being 18 years old lol. Thx u.

Thank you Robert, I really appreciate you watching and commenting. I started in a Auto parts/machine shop, did cleaning prep work valve jobs, seat and guide replacement block cleaning and or parts, block honing, real honing after boring with a Sunnen hone, flywheels, brake drums and rotors, wheel bearings. I was an apprentice working under a German man that really knew the business. He knew how to fix almost anything. I also learned the parts business. This experience was so valuable to my life and career. This is about 49 years ago and I was 18. Have a great weekend. 👍🇺🇸👍

Very nice work. I think the 11/32 guides will allow a good pickup in flow over the stock stuff. These heads will be awesome!

As Machinist how do you say reamer them decides with the reamer. Then I Dingle Ball them to put a nice crosshatch in. Reamer makes the guy's perfectly straight into size, as again the Dingle ball gives him a nice cross hone
@edsmachine93Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching Paul. I could have reamed the guides and decided to hone. I have ball hones and am aware I could have done that. Honing is more precise and is the corect proceedure for this application. Have you ever honed a guide? A standard 11/32 Reamer would cut to big! I know what you're trying to do here. This makes #1 of 3 strikes.

This is a great video! In the first 5 minutes you answer both the questions that popped in my head when I read the video title. I was wondering if you were ok with hand drill honing guides instead of doing it on a machine. I also was gonna ask if it was true that holding your finger over the boss and pulling the valve out quickly so you hear a pop was an ok way to tell if your guides were ok or needed attention. I wonder what else I'm going to learn after I finish the video.

Thanks Joshua, I appreciate you watching and commenting. The suction is there cause there is not alot of guide clearance. About .0018. If the guides were loose you would not have this. Have a great weekend. 👍🇺🇸👍

Ed, I never knew exactly what machine work was involved in rebuilding an engine. I'm truly enjoying watching and learning. You mentioned a "headstand." What is that?
@edsmachine93Ай бұрын
Hi Brad, Thanks for watching. Not sure when I said head stand. The guide hone machine have a built in head stand for holding the cylinder heads. Also has a oil pump and a reservoir for oil. Make it nice for guide honing. Have a good evening. 👍🇺🇸👍

What happened to nehrling the guides
@edsmachine93Ай бұрын
This is a Performance build. The old guides were completely worn out. I installed new guides and they have spirals, not knurls. Thanks for watching. If you watch the whole series everything is explained completely. Have a good day. 👍🇺🇸👍

Wouldnt larger valves help a lot. just suggesting

Hey Kurt, good to see you. No, I think the 1.94 x 1.60 will be nice size valve combo for these heads. It will be good for the LittleRedExpress. Thanks for watching. Have a good evening. 👍🇺🇸👍
