Honest Feelings On A History Of US
Technically this is only my thoughts on the first 5 of 10 books since that is all we have so far. I was eyeing this set before I found out that they were included in the 5th-grade kit from @timberdoodleco. I can't say enough how stuffed with information these books are. They're full of color, maps, diagrams, and pictures included. Possibly one of my favorite takeaways is that the author doesn't shy away from the ugly bits of history. Instead, she explains clearly why learning the worst of it is beneficial to help us understand ourselves and our societies. I hope that this review helps you if you've considered adding this to your collection.

My mind is blown! Thanks to you all, I have found a student guide (won't use it) and the audiobook. I had no idea these existed!! Better still, the audiobooks are available via Hoopla for free from our library! 😍As always, you are my greatest homeschool resource!!!

We use Bookshark for history. Obviously lots of reading hence the name, which works good for our family. My kids (and myself) have learned so much just through just reading. These books look outstanding as well. Thank you for sharing. We decided to tack on some hands on fun from History Unboxed! Incredible and FUN. I know my kids, and if they had to do a bunch of writing or copywork, things like that, I know history wouldn’t be as enjoyable.

That is how we do history and really enjoy it. My daughter really likes history. She doesn’t have to write anything but we have some deep discussions about it. She is 8. We haven’t started these books yet. We are using the Usborne History book but plan to start these when we get out of ancient history.

We use it the same way on our 5th day which is more of our game school relaxed day. We also use history quest for our main history work.

Lay it on me, what great U.S. History resources do you have? The good news is that I get to learn right along with my girls!

Always love your videos! From the peeks you gave, these books look like... A LOT. As you said, ha. I probably missed a video at some point, but I'm so curious why you chose not to go with History Quest for U.S. history this year. (I haven't used it, but I'm planning to in the future, so I'm wondering if there's something I should be wary of.)

When I was planning in March, I didn't know that it would be out in time. Then, when it was, I got so excited and went to buy just to find out that the audiobook isn't slated til 2023. So, I figure when it's available, I'll buy it then and find a way to work it in. I absolutely love her stuff!! I did just find the audiobook for History of US on hoopla free from our library thanks to some recommendations here. Makes it much easier.

@@MakingEverydayMagic I just downloaded all the books for History of US for free on audible - except that book 8 for some reason wasn't free. I used one of my credits to purchase it.

Honestly, we tried using the assessment books to make it more of a curriculum but had to give them up after the first book. They are for middle school/high school classes. Definitely over the head of my normal level 5th grader. Now I just have him write a quick paragraph or so per chapter so I have something to show that he is doing a US history course. I totally agree that it is super meaty and borderline maybe should have waited until 6th or 7th grade to do it/get the most out of it

You know I always love your videos, so thank you! My own two cents on this series is that is not the best option, yes provides a lot of detail but I find the author not one that presents a good balanced view of history. (I have not read the entire series, but I am familiar with the author)
