For now, I love it. The overall writing feels different from Genshin, it's both more adult (they openly talk about people death and misery), and at the same time, it's more comedic, and sometimes completely absurd in some interactions. You can feel that they had a lot of fun in the writing. It gives me some old school japanese RPG vibes. I didn't play Honkai impact, and that was the most worrying part for me, but I haven't felt bad about it so far, everything is properly explained and the characters don't feel like you should know them.

The item system is called "Relics" (like artifacts in GI). You can access it at LVL 15 but actually open the domain to farm them at LVL 24.
@BladeSerph Жыл бұрын
I know its a dated response but very sure they meant `consumables`, not equips. -Relics are Star rails` equilvency of genshin`s Artifacts, system is basically 1:1 with main affix and sub affix. Being almost the same exact lines with a few swapped out such as having things like `effect hit`, `effect resistance`, `speed`, etc. but you still have flat hp/atk, % atk/hp, specific element dmg (especially on main stat), crit chance, crit damage, etc. Even goes thru the same farm method of burning resin on a `domain` to roll a chance of a half a dozen or so relics, typically 2 purples (since i think only whalers would be above trail blaze level 40 and have access to GOLD relics by now) and a crap ton of disposable blue/green relics to burn for exp. The only BOON i can tell so far is the fact you can scrap relics for relic EXP if you wanna clean your inventory, though you could still end up burning dozens of relics in the 9~12 upgrades and likely gets way higher with the `gold tier` ones. -You also have Planetary relics which basically replace the 5th slot with a separate 2 slot system aka MOAR relic grind that is basically the same, just with a 2 set effect specific to a % bonus plus a boon typically about having high speed (120 for most with the break one requiring a whooping 145!!!) that pretty much doubles up the first bonus or some other effect like a small team dmg buff long as that unit`s speed is high enough. Ultimately, same exact stupid genshin artifact grind of constantly rerolling fresh copies with resin burn and lvling till you have the right main affix, the right batch of sub affixes you want and all random level ups land on the sub affix you WANT to level. -CONSUMABLES, are pretty much a dumbed down version of cooking recipes, most are just ways to heal, revive and recover TP/ultimate energy. Though a few do give sizable stat buffs, which are gonna be abused like CRAZY, to deal with higher level content.

I think the simpler, three-skill turn-based combat is actually a good thing. It fills, or maybe even creates, a new niche for casual turn-based players. Hoyoverse makes its games with mobile players in mind. If I'm gonna play a mobile game for like fifteen minutes at the cafe, I don't want to have to consider ten different options for four different team members. If I wanted a more complex, 5-head RPG experience, I'd sit down with my Switch at home and play Persona Royal for two hours, or sit down with my friends and play D&D for four hours. That's why I say that HSR is in a new niche; its simpler gameplay is adapted for its medium.

Just started star rail, a few thoughts. Honestly it's a lot more fun then I expected. There's a lot of familiar faces from Honkai Impact 3rd. That said (spoiler) there are interesting Easter eggs, like the wind glider you can find early in the game. As far as turn based and the gacha system, if your a fan of Octopath Traveler then your probably going to really enjoy Honkai Star Rail. Also the beginning phase is pretty generous and there are a lot of similar functions to both Hoyoverse's previous games so if your familiar its pretty easy to pick up. Voicelines are pretty cheeky and helps make the game more enjoyable, plus I gotta say the music goes from catchy to soothing imo. Rather enjoyable. There's also 4 Star Characters you can unlock through normal(?) playthrough. Honestly it might be too early to call it normal but I'm pretty sure main progression counts. Fast tip: I'm pretty sure your stuck playing naked minus the holocones until Belobog so I recommend sticking with the main team and shielding pro- actively before going too wild. Last thing, I'm a miser about investing resources until 4 Star or blues and I still scrubbed my way past a lot early on until I got some, not sure if that helps any but it's doable. Oh and FINIALLY, an MC that actually doesn't feel like a welfare check. Batters up!

I am also concerned about the lack of options on turn based combat. After playing persona, the one system I miss the most is All out attack. In early game a lot of time I feel like, there is not much incentive of breaking their shields since they only result in 10% damage loss. That means focusing on a single target all the time instead of getting everyone in a downed state. I dont have enough dps to focus down a enemy's hp in a single round so it feels unnecessary. Maybe this would improve in midgame endgame

i was a little worried about how much i would like hsr but then again i've played pokemon my entire life, so turn based wasn't something that's new to me. i think just the graphics of the game make me mentally think this is a open world game since i'm so used to genshin, like i catch myself trying to jump lmao so far i like the game. the starters trailblazer, dan heng, & march 7th are pretty solid. the combat reminds me of pokemon battles when you fight 2 on 2. the animation is really good and i like the character designs. i was initially going to stay for like the first week and drop it, but i'm actually pretty into the story so far

I never played turn based combat game before and I never played Honkai. I just play genshin, so the turn based system is something I need to get used to. But I think that if I ever get bored of that, I'll still play HSR just fore the story and the lore.

Ive been playing both since Star Rail came out and its interesting how some of the differences from Genshin have turned out to be even better than expected while others have transformed into flaws. For example, i know that Honkai Impact has very few characters who have different suits that do different things in the gameplay, so the story focused on those characters and the suits were solely about investment in the battle style and maybe the story got you invested in a particularly significant change of suit that came with character development or something. Genshin, of course, has one character per unit that they can try to sell us so they put some work in and then pretty much abandon them to try and get us to pay attention to new characters. Star Rail? It does BOTH. The crew of the titular Express promises to be with us to the very end of the story and we already have one of them going through a character development costume change and power up that is itself a separate unit to pull for, who knows how many times that will have happened by the end! Plus, we are going to be moving on to new worlds and meeting new characters but so far we're also going back to the first ones a LOT instead of moving straight on to the next location long promised. Maybe itll be like Genshin and once we have more places to go we'll see less and less of these characters and locations but theres hope that that wont be the case seeing as going back to the first planet we landed on to help with a situation related to them being reintroduced to the wider galaxy after being isolated for a long time let us meet a character whos clearly got ties to many future story arcs given the organisation she works for spans the galaxy ans is constantly mentioned and even has relevance to the next location were going to...but she now ALSO has ties to THIS place. Theres set up for us to continue coming back to Belobog and helping them develop just as theres reason to believe the Loufu will never stop being relevant given we're clearly on a path to visit and help every one of the Xianxou ships its a part of the fleet of. If they can pull that off properly, a balance between progress and not making new stuff and the relevant characters entirely redundant right after, i wont lose interest in the story even if the gameplay isnt capturing me. Which, yeah, its gotten boring fast for exactly the reasons you brought up. There is an equivalent to the artifact system but it doesnt change up anything, just makes bigger numbers happen if you manage to get and build good ones. Its just...yeah, thank god for autoplay i think id have dropped this almost instantly if i had to actually play through the same battle 6 times to get through a quarter of my equivalent of daily resin, let alone the equivalent of bosses that are already at the point of having 3 phases and a truckload of health just to slow you down. So...yeah if youre in it for turn based gameplay i dont think this is for you. The story though? The characters? The themes of trailblazing and discovery? It might be a lot of fun.

Its still on its honeymoon phase but HSR earnings in May broke its highest ever Hoyo’s sales records…even overtook Genshin’s highest figures since launch… HSR story telling is much more matured compared to Genshin which i really appreciate and like more… As a longtime Final Fantasy, breath of fire and many other various turn based RPG player eversince the Famicom and SNES console era I actually love HSR turn-based combat…cause im old…hahaha

Most mistakes... while having some steps back when the system from the other game is better than the other. Case in point - why can't I see the history of my interactions while the story is going along like in Honkai? They chose to follow Genshin for the storyline instead. By the time you go into the Data Bank to look for the history, you'd already lost interest.

I think Turn based combat is unappreciated since many game titles like Pokemon, Final Fantasy and SMT/MegaTen(Persona is a spin off) so it is always gonna have mixed reaction if a game is one. As for HSR, I think it is a decent game design and with some easter eggs hidden in the game. I really enjoy playing it

I too went in knowing nothing but I'm really enjoying the game so far, my only complain about the battle system is that we cannot defend and have to rely too much on shields. Also, I'm still mad at March 7th for stopping Dan Heng from kissing us.

Personally I doubt they will do more than the three skill thing anytime soon. But the combat for long term longevity could use an extra mechanic to spice it up/give it a bit more depth. So not everything is team building/gacha character based.

Just gonna answer the question for why the combat has an auto-battle mode. It’s because the game has grinding in it, and Hoyo learned from Genshin that only a rare sort of people like grinding. And now my opinion of star rail. In my opinion, the fun of Honkai Star Rail is building a functional team that clears content well, rather than having a massive variety of choices for skills. If I remember correctly, other rpg games have a massive skill list, but they also have one strongest skill for each type of skill, usually. In that way, some rpg games end up having a similarly limited set of skills. From my perspective, Star Rail simply streamlined the “using the strongest skill that a character has” process to simply giving characters three things, the basic attack, the skill, and the ultimate. Additionally the whole being able to trigger ult whenever you want thing is pretty cool and another layer to strategy in the combat of star rail.

I think non Honkai veterans will never be able to appreciate this like we do, I’ve it since the year of release. Hearing Himeko, Welt, Bronya and especially Seele speaking English is so strange. You guys are about to jump deep into this crazy 4 years in the making lore.

I do wonder what's preferable for players some people dislike Paimon's exposition but some people don't like terms being inferred(though if you go and ask the characters they do give a good synopsis of what the terms mean) Persona seems to be everyone's go to but I often see SMT fans basically call it babies first RPG (which despite the praise it is really easy to exploit the mechanics) Genshin it's mostly you and Paimon in Honkai your jumping perspectives all the time and with HSR you have your base characters and the characters on other worlds I kind of like how there games approach and adapt the narrative and feels like they take different lesson from each game cool thing about a live service game They have the funding to make the game run for however long(people tend to forget Tear of Themis and GG exist and there going strong) and despite the whole "Mihoyo Greed" narrative They design the games how they want and stay true to their vision you can feel the passion in all there games and when you look at all of them they do add and change things Also love how the concepts always translate well Forbidden Knowledge Honkai Sterllaron feeling like the same thing just different adaptations

gotta say, even though it's early days, as someone who enjoys turn-based rpgs, I'm already seeing how the simplicity can get boring fast (although it is still really fun for now), and unfortunately, I feel like that's by design to encourage players to pull for new characters so that the gameplay doesn't get stale. Or maybe it's just to encourage people new to the genre to play, and I'm being unnecessarily pessimistic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here's the thing about only having 3 attacks. This isn't a game like Persona with a limited number of characters. It's a game that will have dozens to get. If each character had 10+ moves then Hoyo would never be able to sell new characters. The strategy in this game will be switching out characters to suit different situations and battles. As for the combat. I actually had far more thrilling encounters in Star Rail so far then I've really had in Genshin. Due to the limited nature of healing abilities and attacks compared to Genshin I was actually in serious danger and couldn't just scarf down a dozen Sweet Madames. As for the auto battle, I definitely love it. Because it makes it so much easier to grind when you don't feel like playing. I'd love for a similar system in Genshin. Playing the same Domains gets so boring

as someone who also hasn't played yet, i'm loving the characters but yeah, only having 2(?) combat abilities paired with it being turn-based is something i'm not as much a fan of personally

The main thing that makes me hesitant about playing it is that the enemies are huge bullet spunges and the animations are looooong. I feel like every fight will take way longer than it needs to and the animations will get boring. Imo turn based combat becomes less fun the longer the battle goes on since it'll end up repeating itself. I'd prefer something to Xcom or Othercide where you can instantly lose a unit when you make a stupid move which keeps you on your toes. At the same time you're a powerhouse in those games and you can punish the enemy just as much.
@domb.1522 Жыл бұрын
There’s a fast forward system to increase the animations. The main thing I don’t like about the combat is that there is auto-play.
@mattavarius5119 Жыл бұрын
My biggest issue is that I don't feel any connection to each characters' gameplay. I really like some of the characters' personalities so far, but actually playing each character feels the exact same. In Genshin it feels very different to play Xiao then it is to play Ayaka, but in HSR I don't feel any different between someone like Seele and someone like Welt. I can see the difference in the characters, but I can't feel the difference
@randomguyblank1616 Жыл бұрын
Yeah Aster just a heads up you're a bit too early in the game to see the item system, the proper nuances of combat, the 2x speed mode, and why people praise auto battle. Auto battle is for farming, you know how in Genshin you have to manually farm domains and after a while it kinda gets boring since you're doing the same thing? Yeah auto battle nullifies that drawback, like imagine in Genshin you could just click a button and spend a set amount of Resin then a few minutes later you get a bunch of mats or artifacts. Overall as both a Honkai and Genshin player I feel like HSR is a good mix and sometimes outright improvement over the two other games. I also like the more dungeion crawler design over the open world design of Genshin because it means we get more tightly designed areas which is what I see as a big weakness for open worlds and what seperates decent open worlds to amazing ones.
@Generallygeneral Жыл бұрын
Star rails turn based combat depths is too shallow imo, combine that with auto battle and grindy progression just doesn’t feel interesting. Even Pokémon’s combat has more depths and strategy
@pixelgriefer1880 Жыл бұрын
I even think that the auto battle can be really nice, in Genshin the farming of Artefacts is really annoying because of the repeating monsters in one domain over and over again, it can be more annoying when the enemys have specific mechanics, so I think it can be a huge load of our shoulders when it comes to farming relics in Honkai. But! The auto battle is sadly not far advanced enough to survive many times, it doesnt attack weaknesses and only focuses on the enemys left to right most of the time which makes the bot play like someone that doesn't understand the game mechanics at all

The things the characters say are insufferably repetitive and weird. “Ever see a diamond this big, you can have it.” I already never want to hear “rules were meant to be broken” again and I haven’t even unlocked ways to use resin.

I'm a huge fan of turn based games, in games like Shadowrun Returns, Divinity Original Sin and XCOM. But the difference is that in those games there is MOVEMENT, your characters can move in a 2D environment, turning the game into a chess-like strategy battle. I was never a big fan of JRPG-style turn-based combat, because without movement, positioning, range or hit chances the game becomes just "who can make the biggest numbers", and there is not much strategy in that... Also in those games each character can have dozens of moves, skills and attacks, and like you said in Star Rail you have... 4 moves? Yeah its not looking good for me...

in my opinion the combat itself isn’t what makes it slow, it’s the transition from open world to the combat stage. the turnbased system seems overkill to defeat a random open world mob
