The model being a Stray rescue that 2 of the Dev Team adopted a few years back and the Behaviour being from I believe a sphynx cat they studied the behaviour from

This feels like a companion to a couple of episodes of Love Death and Robots, where a trio of robots try to figure out what happened to the human race and meet a cat :)

I've always wanted to see more games based around actual animals. Not anthropomorphic animals, animals that act like actual animals. I'd love a game set in the rainforest where you play as a monkey, or a fantasy game told from the perspective of a dire wolf.

Then I would definitely recommend a game called Lost Ember. It's similarly short-ish, fairly straightforward, but you get to play as animals. Not just one, but all of them. And your main avatar is a wolf. It's like $30 on steam, although I would advise getting it on sale, unless you really need a game where you play as animals.

If you feel really down about out nightmarish hellworld and love cats you MUST play this game. I had smile, (rare for me these days) glued to my face for hours. It is about collective redemption in a world destroyed by climate collapse and pandemic. I wish it lasted longer.

Went straight into it first day to avoid any spoilers and glad I did! Such an enjoyable little game with solid animation and sound design! It might not break any molds but it does what it does well! The only way you won’t smile is if you really dislike cats.

I absolutely loved Stray and am doing a second playthrough. Albeit, good point about how, "A real stray would ignore the robot guy for like four hours and then throw up on his rug". And yeah, we have a meow button, but no "show everyone your butt" button. 😸

Problem with playing as a normal dog would be that dogs don't really do much of anything unique without instruction. It would just be a game about following your nose to food, things that smelled like food, and maybe hunting for and fighting over food.
