The 'ads' are indeed dubbed - they are incisive, topical and indeed very political - I love them as an Aussie myself. Mining has captured much our political class here - so this an apt one. Not just for WA, but Australia nationally too. 'Nippers' = young kid surf lifesavers.

It's a parody of real government ads. You may note the misspelling of the word Australian, in the logo for the "Western Australien (sic) Government". This allows them to say it's an official WA Government advertisement without having to add a verbal or written disclaimer. As you can't legally pretend to be someone you're not, if they used the correct spelling for Australian then they would have needed to put in a disclaimer, which may have affected the feel/flow of the parody.

WA is the largest mining State so the State Government receive substantial tax and royalties from operations and why their interests are so connected. The Federal Government receive Billions from taxation from mining companies. Over $26B in fact and over $16B in royalties as well.

Australia is great on many aspects but when it comes to the Paris Accords, Climate and environmental protection, they're one of the worst offenders of the Western world. Natural gas could be considered a step in the right direction (if only they slashed coal extraction and use at the same time). It could be a progress only if it didn't ruin entire ecosystems, biodiversity, historical sites, etc. Australia's federal and state governments are colonized by climate deniers, special interests groups and fossil energy. So this mockery ad is just perfect, it sums it all.

This video was released at a ti e when the eastern side of the country was impacted by massive increases in electricity and gas prices. Western Australia made smart deals and arrangements with mining companies to ensure that the residents of Western Australia would always have access to reasonable priced electricity and gas. Is it not surprising that the eastern states are again attacking us for our forward thinking. This also followed some eastern states proposing that we in the west pay more taxes so they can get cheaper power. Wrong in so many levels.

In 2017(?) a severe storm knocked out all power to South Australia (essentially some interconnector between Vic and SA got knocked out, overloading the demand on the network). While there was theoretically power available, firing up power plants takes time, and power networks don't cope well with fluctuations (I think there was a famous outage in the US caused by unexpected network fluctuations that cascaded across a lot of the country - not sure on details). Anywho, if the network had some sort of balancing the network may have coped better (probably still with a partial failure, but not the whole network in the state going bye-bye). Musk saw an opportunity to sell a battery (it helps balance network load) and offered to set it up - "free if not completed in 100 days"). It copped a lot of criticism, because theoretically the battery can only power the state for a very short amount of time - but the point of it is load balancing rather than continued power (in a similar way most UPS are designed to give you enough power to safely shut down systems rather that to continue normal operations during an outage). The SA Government took him up on the offer and the rest is history.... Regarding "What is WA?". We have a 3-tiered system of Government (I suspect the US is likely similar to some degree), where there is a Federal Government, a State Government and a Local Government (in most places). Western Australia is a state, and has some autonomy to do whatever it likes independent of the Federal Government (the states aren't fully autonomous - obviously they rely on Federal Govt to distribute funding which sometimes comes with strings attached - but broadly speaking how the states run is up to the state Governments)

The Tesla battery has been huge for South Australia. Stores power from renewables for on demand usage. SA Gov generated half a billion $$ by storing and selling power form the battery into interstate power grids.

The points she made about Labour are right, a lot of people my age at least (I can't speak for other age groups) voted for them to help reduce emissions (like any party actually cares) at least they acted like they cared to end it until they got in and now they're doing the opposite

The federal government isn't. Besides, a lot of people voted strategically in the federal election by putting Greens or an Independent first, then Labor, and of course the Libs last.

I love the Juice Media ads. They are so funny but they are telling the truth, sometimes I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. They do all of their research first and at the beginning you will notice they spell Australian wrong. They helped throw out our last Government and they did a video on Trump and America that you will love. A nipper is a small child training to grow up to be a lifesaver at the beach. The name changes as they grow and they train and compete every weekend in Summer. I have a friend who named their children in the place they were conceived. There son is Burrup and that kid learned to fight way before he started school.

They did one on the USA and Brazil. They are brilliant. This is how we deal with politicians in Aus. In answer to your question, each State and Territory have their own leader called a Premier, who is elected by the public.

Brief explanation. The states came first (as colonies) and have their own governments, constitutions and laws. All states cut a 'federal size hole' in their constitution and created the federal government to be responsible for the specific things in this hole. So defense, most tax, creating standards, national healthcare funding, age care, indigenous affairs, declaring national parks, etc. The states hold power for local police, local education, local health service provisions, running national parks, etc. Therefore, the feds have zero authority outside of the stuff given to them by the state constitutions. To change this, all of the states would have to change their constitutions and then the whole of Australia would have to change the fed constitution. This actually works surprisingly well, except when it doesn't. Big stuff-ups are taxes and health as examples. The Federal government sets the standards, collects most of the money and holds the purse strings for health, but the state governments are responsible for actually delivering health services. There's a lot of finger pointing. But at least the health system works better then it does in the US.
