I once found a 40 inch vestel Toshiba from 2016 by the roadside, which had been put out for scrap. I took it home and had to fit one single back light which I had in stock, as I would not spend money on a full strip. The set worked perfectly. I had been back to look for the remote, no chance, and it grieved me to have to spend £4.99 on flea bay for an equivalent. About 6 months later, I was passing a builders skip, again by the roadside, in a different street. It was overfilled, and sticking out of it was the very remote that worked with the set, identical to the one I had earlier purchased. A lovely working smart TV with a spare remote, all for £4.99. Now that's a bargain.

To be honest, I was admiring the cat, rather than the shirt😊 And remembering "Trog" the cat who haunted Chas Miller's workshop - reputed to have correctly diagnosed a number of tricky faults, way back in the 1970s.

Amazing how many tv/radio/car people etc.have a Shop Cat hanging around- very relaxing creatures.P.S.- this time of the year, if you see a stray cat, please take it in and even better, go to the vet and see if it has a chip. If you can't find the owner, make it a permanent shop cat. So many animals will be out there freezing this winter.

I had recently taken my Philips 42PUT4900 to the recycling centre in Cornwall but decided to go back for it to attempt a repair. Would you believe it, someone had taken it. Thankfully I hadn't dropped off the remote. 🙂. This was a good trash to treasure vid Allen .

I have also liberated a few TV's from the tip, a few have been in perfect working order! I really hate waste, quite a few sets appear on my local Freecycle. they always seem to find a home!

Years ago a friend of mine would attend the local auctions and bid on tv's etc thay looked well cared for, the ones he won but failed to work ended up in my workshop, most were an easy repair, some he sold some he gave away to deserving people.

One of our neighbours put out a 43” Tv on Saturday. ( didn’t see the make). It was still there on Sunday. Looked like the screen was ok. I said to the missus, “I should get that in just in case it’s the backlights and an easy fix.” Well, that didn’t go down well with her. Monday morning, there it was,,,, gone. 😢😢😢

I worked at a recycling centre in Wiltshire and you should be really angry if you saw what got destroyed . Seen a beautiful Hammond organ crushed. It is criminal what is wasted.

That's pretty much standard policy. Backhanders are always welcome of course but the "official recyclers" get first dibs. After all, they paid more to pick and choose.

Oh you should see what I chuck away. Today I binned a 52" Toshiba that had blued. Last week was a Sony that wouldn't tune to any channels no matter what I did. I've even got a Panasonic on the rack that came in without it's power lead - and it's the one-side square C7 connector. I expect that will wing it's way to the Curry's crusher soon.
