I’m starting kindergarten with my daughter this year and am excited to use this! I’ve heard differing opinions on whether or not to use the teacher’s guide. It seems like it would be helpful, but I’d love to hear if you used it throughout the entire book or not. 🙃
@JoyfulNoiseLearning Жыл бұрын
Glad you are excited! And, yes! I 100% use the teacher's guide. I feel like it's an incomplete math curriculum without the teachers guide. And actually, all the meat of the lessons on in the teacher's book. The games instructions, warm up memory work, and the book list for the math picture books that go with each unit. :) I would say the workbook is more of a supplement to the teacher's guide, rather than the other way around!

My son is starting K this fall. We do some basic worksheet stuff now..I noticed he loves worksheets for letters but hates it with math, so I need something really hands on for math. This seems like a nice curriculum to use in which I don't have to re-construct an on-paper activity into a physical activity.
@JoyfulNoiseLearning2 жыл бұрын
Yes! I highly recommend this one. The worksheets are so quick :) Which is nice for kids who don't love math worksheets. My youngest loved them, and would do 10 pages at a time, lol!

Would you recommend facts that stick as well along with this? Or are they completely separate? I’m still waiting to receive these books. ☺️ thanks!
@JoyfulNoiseLearning4 жыл бұрын
I have not gotten far enough to see if she uses Facts That Stick in this curriculum. I’m assuming she does, so you wouldn’t need it unless they need more practice. So far, she does have some games in the First Grade curriculum that are in Facts That Stick.

We are currently planning on masterbooks but now im wanting this🤣 too, any quick advice on how they compare
@JoyfulNoiseLearning Жыл бұрын
Yes, I can do a quick comparison :) Masterbooks is short lessons and short workbook pages. It doesn’t include hands on games to practice facts. I felt like the instruction wasn’t enough sometimes and the practice wasn’t enough, but they do have an additional practice problems workbook available now. Math With Confidence has short lessons and a short workbook page. But it also includes card games to help with math facts. My boys were able to do mental math really well after doing MWC for a couple years. When we did Masterbooks, I supplemented with Right Start Math games OR Math Facts That Stick (which are the books from the creator of MWC that she did before her full math program 😁).
@Ffiisscchhssoonngg Жыл бұрын
@JoyfulNoiseLiving Thank you so much for confirming. I went ahead and ordered the MWC bc of the handson/games and figured I would supplement some extra workbook pages from MB if need be🥳 Have a great day!!

I’m having a hard time deciding between RS and MWC. Looking to start either now to sort of fill in gaps that we missed with our old kindergarten math curriculum we used this year. Then we would continue o n to either RSB or 1st MWC next school year. Do you have a preference for either program and why ? My son likes math and tends to like using manipulatives (we had been using traditional Montessori material). We have not done any subitizing or mental math and this is why I’m switching (also Montessori I’ve decided is too hard and expensive for me to implement, not scripted at all). I’m worried the abacus will be confusing.

I have a question I’m thinking of getting started I have a 5 year old and 8 year old my 5 year old had a late start to kinder so she’s still on track but my 8 year old is really behind is it okay I start them both at kindergarden level or that a mistake ? Looking for advice but I think he will thrive if I start off at kindergarden level since he’s still struggling to do simple math
@alee79184 жыл бұрын
Also is it okay I find a curriculum for math one brand and something different for reading sorry I’m new to this just making sure I’m doing the right things
@JoyfulNoiseLearning4 жыл бұрын
Yes! You can totally use one company for one subject and another curriculum group for another. That is how I do it. I like to adapt to each child and to each grade level. You could for your 8 year old, grab a Level 1 Math Lessons for a Living Education book from Masterbooks, and then he could sit in on the lessons with your kindergartner. I say you try it for a while, and if it seems to easy for him, give him something at a different level.

@@alexisalvarado6053 this is sufficient for the whole year! I don’t supplement with anything else. It includes the teaching, math facts practice with games, and individual workbook, and picture book to read and real life math practice. I honestly don’t have time to fit it all in. I recommend using the Teachers Guide AND the workbook and not just the workbook.

Why is this better than Rightstart?
@JoyfulNoiseLearning2 жыл бұрын
I liked doing Right Start with my oldest, I only had one child to focus on then. But now that I have three I’m teaching, I like shorter, more streamlined lessons, and that’s what MWC is. It’s all the same type and method of teaching math, just quicker for mom, and a fun workbook for my kid. It’s also more affordable. BUT, it doesn’t mean Right Start is bad. Both are good!!
