I have seen comments from Knetizens the members remind them of the down to earth personality and natural chemistry in the group. BTS started this way too by not being super popular from the start and only effort and hard work made them hit big in 3 years. ILLIT is taking same path by debuting not originally well-known members but their talent will make more fans pay attention in the future. They don't have other fanbase to rely on so they have to start from zero. From ILLIT's debut, Super Real Me, we learn: Pluggnb/Lo-fi/City pop (Webtoon, dreamy) NewJeans debuted as: R&B/UK garage/Jersey club (Y2K, teencrush) Best debut of 24' is based on sales. aespa hold the record of Savage until Le Sserafim beat to it with Fearless and then NewJeans self-titled overthrown it with a new record. ILLIT's debut set a new record for a album debut. Even on Hybe's shareholders meeting did ILLIT's Super Real Me exceeded their expectations. For a group with not so well-known members their popularity as a group will grow through effort and being different from the other groups on the market. I'm very fed up with girl crush/sexy concepts in the K-pop scene that's why I don't pay attention to a group who does that concept. NewJeans was basically what I needed at the time and ILLIT is not an exception either.

When Mnet's fraud led to Kpler prioritizing fan votes, problems like Bahee arose and the number of haters increased. I don't think HYBE's selection method this time was wrong at all. You can't create something good if you only look at it from the fans' perspective. Izone has such great members because they made adjustments. I also think Unis' selection method is great, as it takes popularity + ability as seen by professionals into account. Wonhee was incredibly popular in Korea so it was only natural that she was chosen. It's only sad that she left, like Garam from Lesserafim.

Izone was built on the members they adjusted in, and if the rumors are to be believed two of them now lead extremely successful groups and are themselves extremely talented and loved. And while it's hard to accept Kaeun not debuting, Yuri clearly had the voice that fit the music concept.
